Since the launch of Across, we have been preparing for the youth summer camp in August every year Affected by the pandemic, the camp was canceled last year and this year. I took the opportunity and used this time to go camping. In addition to enjoying nature, swimming, hiking, stargazing, barbecuing, and reading in the breeze, what I enjoyed most was seeing children learn in nature’ s classroom without walls, tables, chairs, and computers. They were learning new things every day. They learned discipline and played as they please. They made new friendships. They learned to be responsible, to clean the site and to maintain personal hygiene. They watched snakes swimming, squirrels foraging, wild deer strolling. They saw sunrises and sunsets. They ran wild in the rain and swam in the heat of the sun. Seeing them reminded me that for many years, the campers of Across have cherished those youthful years the most learning and growing together in nature's classroom, creating lasting memories. With that being gone, we yearn for it even more as we await to meet the young people in the next summer camp. But meanwhile as we wait, we can only meet them through different platforms online

Introduction

City Mosaic has brought an unique experience to participants this summer. It used to be a single day event but due to the pandemic, it evolved into a month long virtual event. Participants continued to visit and learn about the cultural and historical aspects of the Greater Toronto Area Although the event has ended, the yearning for the connection and belongingness to our city and neighborhood will continue on and be ever growing.

While the summer is slowly fading and fall is just around the corner, this marks the start of the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, an annual event that Across U-hub has participated in for the past few years Over the years, many Across participants geared themselves up and ran for a greater cause in support of our youth Last year, we had a virtual race because of the pandemic. This year we will continue to participate in the virtual race and may have a chance to run in-person If you are wondering how you can support our youth in a more fun and interactive way, this may be your chance

However, if you like to sit down and take a sip of your coffee or tea and read, then the 4th Issue of Across the Lens: Stories of You and Me coming up next week, may be a way for you to support our youth. Every other month, our youth volunteers will interview and write inspiring stories of young ChineseCanadian in the community. These stories are not something you ’ll find reading everyday but are real life experiences and stories that are happening in our own backyard! Give it a read and it may surprise you in unexpected ways.
