CHAIRMAN’S WELCOME On behalf of everyone at the club, a very warm welcome to Ash Grove for the first home game of the new season. A special welcome to Old Priorians — your players, coaches and travelling supporters — we hope you enjoy your visit and a good game. Welcome too to our own supporters out in force to see the season underway, to our A&C U13s making a strong appearance today as the join the ranks for Juniors for the first time, to our Away Kit Design competition winners, and a particularly warm welcome to our new President, Andy Grant, taking up the role for the very first time today. A NEW SEASON BEGINS We are hugely excited for this new season to begin, both on and off the pitch. There is a real energy around the club at the moment and today feels like the perfect place to kick it all off. INVESTING IN OUR CLUB On the pitch, our 1st XV goes into the season with new coaches at the helm, some new players and players returned from their studies and we’re looking forward to seeing their impact as the year unfolds. Off it, our membership continues to grow year on year, and that growth is being matched by investment in Ash Grove itself. Plans are well underway for a new artificial grass pitch (AGP), along with further improvements to support other sporting activities at the club — all of which we expect to be in place by the start of next season. SENIOR AMBITIONS Our ambition for the year across our Senior teams is simple: promotion. It’s a target we’re setting with real confidence given the strength of the squads and the coaching now in place, and we hope you’ll get behind the players as they chase it over the coming months. MINIS, JUNIORS, WOMEN AND GIRLS From our Minis through our Juniors, our Women’s section and our brand new Girls section, our aim is the same for every one of them: have fun, enjoy your rugby, and develop the friendships this great sport brings. Whatever level you’re playing at, that’s what this club is about.

WELCOMING OUR U13S Today, we also welcome our biggest ever cohort of U13 players and their parents into the club. Joining the Junior section is a real rite of passage, and it’s a day we mark with one of our oldest traditions: presenting each new junior player with a club tie. It’s a small gesture, but an important one, and one we’re proud to keep going. This year the ties will be presented by our A&C sponsored position-holders: from the forwards, Charlie Swerling (1), and from the backs, Conor Segre (9). Congratulations on today’s selection against stiff competition and thank you for taking on this role today. It feels like yesterday that Charlie was at this very same ceremony! NEW KIT, NEW LOOK Finally, a warm welcome and congratulations to the winners of our first ever Away Kit Design competition. This is the first time we’ve run a competition like this, and I hope that when the New Kit Reveal takes place today, you’ll agree the winners have done an amazing job. Congratulations to Charlie & Tobie Meoy from the Juniors, and to Conor from the Seniors. Together, their designs bring real class and style, with a lovely nod to where we call home — a contour map of Amersham built into the design itself. Finally, as always, I would like to thank all the volunteers and staff who make an event like today possible. It’s a stunning turnout, which sold out two weeks ago! 2026 / 2027 SEASON

MATCH REPORT half of the pitch following the second-half restart. Our new forwards coach and second row, Sam Lunnon, took to the skies in the line out and secured us a driving maul, with Joe Batt securing another 5 points. A speedy linebreak by Andrew Toole saw us add another try, with Will Baildon securing the conversion, and bringing our lead up to 22-5. Barnes fought back in the final quarter of the match, scoring two tries and one conversion - but this was not quite enough to claw back A&C’s lead. The final whistle closed the game with Amersham & Chiltern winning 22-17. A&C 1XV vs Barnes 2XV, 4th September Our pre-season kicked off under the lights at Ealing Trailfinders, with our 1st team taking on Barnes’a 2nd XV - the previous club of our new head coach, James Love. It took just 8 minutes for A&C to open up the scores, with hooker Joe Batt scoring off a rolling maul. Just a few minutes later, Nathan CleaverBrown broke through the line - gaining thirty metres and fending off five defenders - with a speedy breakdown to follow. Quick hands shifted the ball into the hands of our new winger, Luca Toth, who goosestepped his way past his opposite man to score in the corner. Barnes claimed back a try to get on the scoreboard before half time, after a quick blindside peel off the back of a maul. The score came to 10-5 at the break, with Chiltern in the lead. We kept the play in Barnes’

A&C 2XV vs Old Albanians 3XV, 4th September On drought-recovered pitches, Daniel Burke’s 2’s returned to Ash Grove under Friday night lights, taking on Old Albanians’ 3rd XV. The first half got underway with a 27-second chip and chase try by Josh Fisher making us think this game would be a walk-in

(we were wrong). What followed was an entire half of OA’s possession, territory, and dominant carrying leading the sideline to question if we had played contact before. 7-19 to OA’s at the break, and a strong word from Burkey. The second half was owed to our new S&C coach Jon Armour for the rigorous pre-season he ran. A complete turnaround as the fitter side, Henry Cook’s wide distribution and Bojan Cecairc’s carving runs created several tries including doubles for Saxon Pinset, Leo Wilson, and Tyron Porteous, Some shots by David Cole and Ed Batchelor left OA’s without second half points for a final score of 57-19. Farnham vs A&C, 12th September Our final pre-season match was hosted by Farnham Rugby Club in the rolling Surrey hills. A packed balcony of spectators were eager to see their boys in black and yellow take to the field, with a strong and heavy forwards pack, reinforced by a fast and physical back line. A perfect match for the mighty claret and whites.

MATCH REPORT We faced strong winds for the first block of 30 minutes, and conceded after 13 minutes. Now 7-0 down, we pinned Farnham deep into their half and piled on pressure with scrums and line outs. Our front row of Swerling, Batt and Bruno faced a tough challenge holding Farnham’s height in the scrum, however our pack excelled in our line out set-piece, where we quickly scored from a rolling maul, and a brilliant conversion from our new fly half, Will Baildon. We quickly reset and returned to their half after a speedy line break from our new signing, George Wood. After running half the length of the pitch, he passed onto our lightning man Sammy Sinclair to beat another four defenders, and quick offloads allowed Conor Segre to score in the corner. We led 12-7 into the first break. Our 2nd block of 30 was opened by Andrew

Toole intercepting a pass off the back of Farnham’s line out. A 30 yard break and a couple of off-loads set up Bojan Cecaric to score on the wing. Farnham took this as a challenge and returned the favour with a crashball try under our posts. We kept the lead at 17-14 going into the second break. The fight was still on. Our final third of the match saw a flowing play off the back of a scrum, with a pick off to the left and then a drift right, allowing George Wood to add to the score board - now 22-14 to Chiltern. A thrilling run from Kaz Olayinka left 4 Farnham players in the dust, however we could not add any more points in the match. Farnham retaliated, and they looked on to score one more with the clock in the red - however a knock-on 5 meters out allowed Wood to kick for touch, bringing the game to a close. A&C 22, Farnham 21.

PRESIDENTS WELCOME It’s the most wonderful time of the year Our new President, Andy Grant, says ‘Hi’ whilst advocating that the 1st league game of the rugby season is just that - forget Christmas, or even if your homeland is becoming 6 Nation Champions. There is nothing on this earth more wonderful than today!!!!!!!! This delayed day has come, and it allows us all to gather in Ash Grove, shake hands, hug, and celebrate the start of the 2026/2027 season. This season, we are back in Regional 2 - Thames, with local, derby and rivalry being the watchwords as many local rivals battle it out for glory.

Our wonderful President Peter ‘Digger’ Kenyon assures me that after 9 years in the role, he still has the stamina of a racehorse and the energy of a crate of Lucazade Sport. He served for just 9 years, and this brings back some distant but happy memories for me of Rangers’ 9-in-a-row Scottish Premiership title glories. 9 is a great number, and we all give our grateful thanks for his support, generosity and enthusiasm for all his achievements whilst President. Digger ‘we salute you’. I’ve learned over the years that it is important to be yourself when following the great. So, in supporting our wonderful club, I’m going to champion the Volunteers, all things charitable and maintain my role in all matters of discipline. I aim to be the glue that binds us all together during one of the most significant times in our club’s history. Here are just a few achievements that have been made to make this day so wonderful • Thanks to our private bore hole, we watered the pitches 24/7 throughout the summer, keeping them playable when so many others weren’t. • We’ve built new dugouts for both home and away and should be ready for today. • All generations of members and supporters have helped mend and paint outdoor furniture, sweep and weed, wipe down fencing, and empty what seemed like 149 bins that cover our estate.

• 1st team changing rooms are being painted, with additional shelving and storage being added to store personal belongings • The management of ‘Bobbett and Huw’, our resident robotic grass cutters, who have worked all summer with no holidays or time off. Thank you also to those who have rescued them when they have exhausted themselves or headed in the wrong direction. We are all here to kick off the season with huge congratulations to our U13S for achieving their own club tie in recognition of their commitment to rugby and it’s values. We’ll enjoy a wonderful 3-course meal from our partners, the Little Street Kitchen (LSK), and spend time with friends and family, sharing memories and hopes for the coming season and beyond. And we will do all this remembering one of our own, and best. Jeff Choules, who died this week; our thoughts and prayers are with him, his family and friends. Amersham and Chiltern RFC is here for us all, so come on the Chilts!!! - Red and white, you are dynamite!!!!

Recruitment & Pre Season:

It’s been a very hectic off season with lots of changes happening around the club. Obviously, the fantastic news about the new development receiving the planning permission has been the icing on the cake.

This off season has seen the squad boosted by several players joining the A+C ranks alongside returning university graduates. A full preseason has taken place with the squad working massively hard to be ready for the slightly delayed start to league rugby.

The new focus this season is straight forward, to go and win both the 1st & 2nd leagues...!! Put the club back to level 5 and build on from that to become a sustainable and long-term level 4 club in due course. A new three-to-fiveyear plan has been implemented, along with the new development the future is very bright. Its good to be ambitious....!!! But one step at a time. We Welcome New Coaches: James Love (Head Coach) and Sam Lunnan (Forwards & Player Coach). James was formally last season with Barnes RFC and was the backs and attack coach. He previously played for London Scottish and Plymouth Albion at scrum half. Sam was formally with Henly as a player coach. He plays second row & back row. Sam comes with a wealth of knowledge around modern lineout techniques. We look forward to him leading from the front. We also welcome Jon Armour who is our new S+C trainer. Jon has worked with many senior rugby teams over the past few years and will sharpen our boys for the start of this league season and throughout this year.

Rugby Finally Underway: 1st XV: Today the 1st XV takes on old rival Old Priorians. This has always been a good match over the years and I’m sure today will be no exception. 2ND XV: The 2nd XV play Slough (away) – Slough are coached by “our own” – Phil John no less. We wish Phil all the best in his new venture as head coach. Womens: A+C Women in a combined team with Aylesbury play this Sunday 27th in a four-way festival being hosted by Beaconsfield. Game1 is 13.10 KO vs Phoenix. Should be an amazing day. Good luck to everyone. #upthechilts
