Page 1

Performance Notes:

Metric modulations are always subdivision-constant.

Flute notation:

Advanced metrics are modern statistical methods of analyzing the performance of professional athletes. Like athletes at their peak, the musicians in this piece must make quick pivots on a dime. The music needs to feel alternately balletic and bone-crushing, and the players should accentuate the contrast between these characters overblow

slight overblow

jump randomly between partials when overblowing

Square noteheads indicate pitches to be sung These pitches may be transposed to a comfortable octave

Percussion instrumentation:

Small gong, cowbell, cymbal, woodblock, metal can, metal pipe, tambourine, bell tree

The instruments can be arranged on a tabletop or tray. Dry sounds are generally desired, although the player is asked to pick up the cymbal and gong at certain times to allow for sustain

Percussion notation:

Scrape tambourine with superball mallet from center to edge This motion should produce a harsh grinding/rattling sound.

Box notation is used to suggest example rhythmic patterns for general grooves (i e "4:3 groove") Each groove continues through the ensuing slash notation bars Improvisation is encouraged

Duration: 8 minutes
