Earlierthisyear,theACLUofOregon,alongwithACLUNational,preparedplanstoresisttheanti-democracyand anti-freedomattacksofasecondTrumppresidency.Wearenowreadytoimplementtheseplans.
Fordecades,Oregonianshavebeenbuildingfirewallstosafeguardourcommunities,freedoms,anddemocracy. Now,withTrumpthreateningourmostvulnerablecommunities,theACLUofOregonteamisworkingwith lawmakers,communityleaders,justiceorganizations,andOregonianstofortifythesefirewalls.
TheACLUhasfoughttoprotectandadvancedemocracyformorethan100years,andweareuniquely positionedtorisetothechallengesofthismoment especiallywithourdeepbenchoflegal,advocacy,and organizingexperts,ournationwidepresence,andourissue-areaexpertise.
AttheACLUofOregon,wehaveasmallbutmightyteamof21staffmembers.Animportantprojectwehave launchedisanOregon-specificKnowYourRightshubwithresourcesandinformationonmultipleissues— includingImmigrantandRefugeeRights,StudentRights,andmore.
Wehavealsostartedbuildinganetworkofresistanceacrossthestate.InSeptember,wegatheredwithpartners andadvocatesfromacrossthestateduringourTOGETHERConferenceinordertoprepareforaTrump2.0 presidency;youcanreadaboutitonourblog.AndstartinginJanuary2025,ourteamwillbemeetingwith communitiesthroughoutthestateaboutourresistancestrategiesforOregon.Wewillshareinformationabout theseeventsviaemail.
Thenextfouryearswillbechallenging.However,democracytakesimmenseeffortandresolve,andthepathis notalwayseasyorsmooth.
Together,wearestronger.PleasevolunteerwithourEqualRightsforAllcampaigntostrengthenabortionand reproductivehealthrights,protectionsagainstdiscriminationfortransgenderpeople,andmarriageequality. Andsignuptosupportourcriticalpolicywork,becomeamonthlysupportingmember,orfindotherwaysto engage.Yoursupportmakesourresistancepossible.
