An Achievable Dream Alumnus Receives Grant Funding for Research
Dr. Brian McGowan, An Achievable Dream Class of 2001 graduate, recently received a $700,000 grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to study equity-based teaching at the college level. On receiving this grant, Dr. McGowan shared, “I remain steadfast in better understanding and improving the educational experiences of students who tend to be marginalized and look forward to working alongside colleagues who share similar commitments. This project is both timely and imperative.” Dr. McGowan was also awarded a $1.3 million grant to explore Black undergraduate STEM students and racial equity in STEM. Dr. McGowan is an associate professor of education and associate director in the Center for Teaching, Research and Learning at American University.
