Every September, the dam that creates Summersville Lake is released for 6 consecutive weekends. That water flows into the Gauley River, creating a world famous single-day rafting trip. This is Gauley Season. Both legendary and unforgettable, it’s a bucket list item for many. This scenic and remote river has two sections, one that is a pulsepounding, wild, class V adventure, and another that is a bit tamer and suitable for first time rafters.
