Nurses comprise the largest fraction of the healthcare workforce, making this profession the base of the health care system’s prosperity. Traynor (2017) argued that to improve nursing practice, legislators and health care leaders must identify challenges and develop solutions to empower nurses to practice to their maximum potential. The fourth message accentuated the need and importance of implementing strong data collection frameworks besides supporting an effective workforce.

Relevance of IOM recommendations

These recommendations have influenced workforce development and nursing training. Leaders intend to use policy to address the surging need for quality care. The IOM recommendations are also relevant to nursing practice since they recognize the positive impact of nursing education and interprofessional collaboration to improved safety and care outcomes across the continuum. IOM recommends an education system that supports research, knowledge acquisition, continuous learning, and collaboration with specialists. The IOM also recognizes the challenges facing nursing practice. State-based coalition

The state-based coalitions are networks of professionals from state and national organizations acting as a team to support health care advancement. The main agenda of these coalitions is to create resilient and better communities. The coalitions appreciate the nurses’ roles and contributions to the health care sector. Traynor (2017) clarified that establishing healthy communities requires leaders to collaborate with other professionals at different levels, including state and national. The New Jersey State-based coalition offers a platform for such collaborations. The coalition works closely with leaders, nurses, and other health care workers to inspire them to transform health care in the state (Campaign for Action, 2021). The New Jersey Coalition’s main objective is restructuring health care progression practices. For instance, the coalition simulates poverty and other social problems to prepare nursing professionals for community practice. Barriers to nursing advancement in New Jersey

Despite the benefits of nursing practice to the people, the advancement of nursing is cluttered with numerous challenges.
