1 Human Rights Condition in Cambodia Introduction Cambodia is a country located in Southeast Asia. It was emancipated from French colonial rule in 1953. The country faced the brunt of the Vietnam War that spilled over to its borders and faced years of atrocities under the war. Cambodia was to eventually re-engineer into a socialistic nation as The People’s Republic of Kampuchea. In 1993, Cambodia became the kingdom that it is today. The past three decades have seen a great violation of basic human rights in the country. The injustices carried out within its borders are some of the most bewildering in the present age. Records have shown that there have been prolonged atrocities in Cambodia that remain largely unaddressed. The apex of this scourge was witnessed from 1975 through to the year 1979. This was the time when the infamous political outfit called Communist Party of Kampuchea who were informally called Khmer Rouge was in reign. This paper examines the state of human rights in Cambodia, and suggestions are put forward to help manage the issues of human rights violation in the country.
