The counseling theory that can be applied in psychotherapy is cognitive-behavioral theory. This theory is based on the perception that the behavior, emotions, and thinking of a person are interlinked (Rosmarin, 2018). The psychological health of a person can be adversely affected when exposed to issues that disrupt any of these three concepts. The use of the CBT in psychotherapy enables nurses to employ interventions that are capable of changing behavioral and thinking patterns of a person subsequently improving the patient’s mental health (Rosmarin, 2018).
