Gerontolical Nursing: Wellness Program
A Wellness Program With a Holistic Approach for an Older Adult Wellness is the state of health involving all factors that constitute the whole person. Physical health is believed to be the core element of a wellness program. However, the wellness program of an older adult should integrate the mind, body, and spirit (Hunter, 2015). Even though age decreases the physical functionality of a person, it does not necessarily mean that the person is sick. This paper describes the wellness program of a 71 year old male who lives independently with his wife. The client is healthy and does not have a chronic condition. He engaged in physical exercises twice a week and consume healthy food. Moreover, he does not have a history of cigarette smoking.

The wellness program for this patient should comprise of the six dimensions of wellness which include emotional, occupational, physical, social, spiritual and intellectual wellness (University of Cincinnati, 2018). A physical exercise program can be developed for the patient to ensure he participates regularly in simple physical activities such as jogging, brisk walking, and other household chores (Hunter, 2015). The patient can be enrolled in the St. Vincent De Paul to increase his participation in spiritual activities and improve his spiritual wellness. This organization has put in place effective measures to improve social interactions between members of the community. These interactions are beneficial in improving the emotional and social wellbeing of a person.
Since the patient lives with his wife at home, he can be enrolled in the Habitat for Humanity, an organization involved in helping people build and improve their homes. Improving the home environment for an older adult reduced the risk of falls and devastating health occurrences. The patient can also be enrolled in the meals on wheels to ensure he is provided with healthy meals every day. Elderly persons are required to eat healthy foods to boost their immunity and reduce the risk of lifestyle diseases.
