WOOD TURNED SMOKING SNOWMAN & CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

Fri 11 & Sat 12 Dec [2-Day workshop] | 10am - 4pm | £125

First mentioned in 1830, ‘German Smokers’ are decorative incense burners that have become a staple in German Christmas decorations. The hollowed-out belly of the turned figure holds a small cone shaped incense which, when lit, allows clouds of smoke to puff out of the figurine’s mouth to make the character look like he/she is smoking a pipe. This two–day course with experienced tutor Jim Kelly is suitable for those who have attended a Beginner’s Course or who have some experience of woodturning. Two projects will be completed, a smoking snowman and small Christmas decorations or candlestick. Each participant will have the use of a lathe and safety equipment will be provided. Tools will be available, but participants can bring their own tools. A Pro-edge sharpening system will be available throughout the two days. All materials, finishes and a bench grinder will be provided.

Please wear an overall/apron/old shirt to protect clothing. This workshop can host one wheelchair user or those who need to be seated. Please inform the box office at the time of booking if you require this facility.

BETWEEN CLOUD AND GROUND CIARA CAMPBELL-CRAWFORD

12 Sept – 7 Nov | Gallery

‘Between Cloud and Ground’ marks a new body of work from ceramic artist Ciara Campbell-Crawford, introducing new forms that reach beyond the vessel into open space. Inspired by the vast, dramatic skies of Ireland, where light shifts in an instant and clouds gather with dramatic intensity, these pieces capture a landscape in constant motion.

At the heart of the work are birds in flight: fleeting, purposeful, free. Rendered in clay, they carry the weight of longing and the lightness of escape in equal measure. The Irish landscape below is felt rather than mapped, elemental, abstract, and intimately familiar.

‘Between Cloud and Ground’ is an invitation to look up, to breathe out, and to find, in the beauty of sky, wing and open air, a moment of pure freedom.

SOMEWHERE ONLY WE KNOW MARIA LIDDY

12 Sept - 7 Nov | Foyer Walls

Maria Liddy is an abstract landscape artist from Armagh, based in Belfast. Working primarily in oils, her paintings emerge from a deep connection to nature, shaped by memory and lived experience. This collection reflects her upbringing in Armagh, drawing on quiet, personal moments in places such as Loughgall and Gosford Forest Park. Rather than focusing on familiar Armagh landmarks, Liddy explores overlooked, intimate spaces, those we return to for comfort and belonging.

‘Somewhere Only We Know’ celebrates these hidden landscapes, inviting viewers to reconnect with their own cherished places of stillness, familiarity, and refuge.

LEAVING LOVINGLY ZOË O’HARE

13 Nov - 9 Jan 2027 | Foyer Walls

‘Leaving, Lovingly’ is the debut solo exhibition of new oil paintings by Armaghborn artist Zoë O’Hare. A self-taught artist, Zoë’s work is deeply rooted in what she has lived, learned, and loved. Her paintings emerge as a form of emotional excavation. The series explores the quiet complexity of leaving a relationship with care, respect, and foresight, recognising what can no longer be sustained.

Using a restrained palette of pinks and reds, traditionally associated with love and romance, the paintings create a subtle tension that reframes separation as an act of devotion, where absence remains tender and love continues in another form.

STATES OF TENSION

ANNE EARLS-BOYLAN

13 Nov – 9 Jan 2027 | Gallery

Jewellery holds our attention, not only because of its ability to play with light - to sparkleit also transmits signals of wealth and status.

Yet the intimate relationship we build with our jewels runs deeper; rooted in emotional ties to significant events, people and place. This complex relationship originates in ‘gifting’; a transaction that creates bonds, conveying a culture’s values through its most prized resources.

Using the language of jewellery Earls Boylan takes us on a thought-provoking journey, manipulating visual and historic cues. She draws on the tensions embedded within our value systems, reframing what “precious” within a jewel might be; its monetary value or its power to hold our attention and communicate sentiment.
