A New Chapter: Introducing ‘The Client Journal’

ACCT Clients, It’s been a privilege to know many of you and to hear your inspiring stories.

These experiences have motivated me to initiate a new feature in our monthly newsletter named, “The Client Journal”.

Every month, I will aim to showcase your stories, offering an intimate glimpse into your challenges, victories, and the transformative role ACCT has played in your lives. My goal is to illuminate these narratives, fostering a sense of community, sparking hope, and underscoring the resilience that characterizes our clients.

Your story could serve as a guiding light for someone in need. By sharing your journey, you have the power to inspire others. I hope you find as much value and enjoyment in this new segment as I do in bringing it to you.

Share Your Journey If you are interested in telling your story, “The Client Journal”, is located under the “News and Events” tab. We’ve established two distinct avenues for clients to share their stories: an online submission form and the option to schedule an in-person interview.

Recognizing the value of privacy and respecting our clients’ personal boundaries, we provide an option for clients to remain anonymous, creating a secure and comfortable environment for story sharing.

We are unable to schedule transportation services without an copy of your appointment details. A 48-hour advance notice is required for all requests. Matagorda and Brazoria clients needing medical transportation, please try to schedule your appointments late morning or early afternoon. Our staff understands that life can present unexpected challenges from time to time, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Pantry Delivery Program We are accepting applications for the Pantry Delivery Program! This program was created to provide access to pantry services to our clients with significant barriers to access ACCT for monthly pantry services. Pick up an application at our campus or follow the link below.

The Magic of Mardi Gras in Galveston, Texas

Galveston, Texas, is known for many things, but one of its most vibrant traditions is the annual Mardi Gras celebration. With a history dating back to 1867, Mardi Gras in Galveston is a spectacle that has evolved over the years into a citywide carnival, complete with parades, costumes, and an annual theme.

The first public Mardi Gras celebration on Galveston Island was a simple affair, but by 1871, it had grown into a grand spectacle. Two rival krewes, the Knights of Momus and the Knights of Myth, emerged, both producing grand-scale night parades.

However, World War II brought about the demise of Galveston’s Mardi Gras. With a nationwide shortage of men, materials, and money, the festivities were deemed improper.

After the war ended, the annual celebrations returned as smaller, private events.

In 1985, Galvestonian George P. Mitchell, and his wife Cynthia, launched a citywide revival of Mardi Gras. Today, Mardi Gras! Galveston is the third largest Mardi Gras celebration in the United States.

So, as we approach this year’s Mardi Gras, let’s remember the rich history of this celebration and look forward to the joy and camaraderie it brings to our community.

The Heart of Valentine’s Day

Every year on February 14th, people around the world celebrate Valentine’s Day, a day dedicated to love and romance. But have you ever wondered why?

The holiday traces its roots back to Ancient Rome and the Christian martyr, St. Valentine. While the true identity of St. Valentine remains a mystery, legends abound. One popular tale tells of a priest who defied an emperor’s decree outlawing marriage for young men, continuing to wed young lovers in secret.

Fast forward to today, Valentine’s Day is a time when people express their love for each other by exchanging gifts, chocolates, flowers, and heartfelt notes. It’s a day to celebrate love in all its forms and to remind those special people in our lives just how much they mean to us.

So, this Valentine’s Day, let’s take a moment to appreciate the love and warmth that fill our lives. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Tuna Patties 2 eggs 2 teaspoons lemon juice 10 tablespoons Italian-seasoned bread crumbs 3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese 3 (5 ounce) cans tuna, drained 3 tablespoons diced onion 1 pinch ground black pepper 3 tablespoons vegetable oil

12 eggs 1 tsp garlic powder salt & pepper 1/3 cup of meat (your choosing) 1/4 shredded cheese

Directions Beat eggs and lemon juice in a bowl; stir in bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese to make a paste. Fold in tuna and onion until well combined; season with black pepper.

Use your hands to shape tuna mixture into 8 (1-inch-thick) patties.

Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry patties in the hot oil until golden brown, about 5 minutes per side.

Directions Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Whisk together eggs garlic powder, salt and pepper.

Mix in cooked meat of your choice and cheese.

Spray muffin tin with cooking spray (important!!). Scoop 1/4 cup of the mixture into regular size muffin tin.

Place in oven for about 12 minutes.

Remove from oven, eat right away or let cool and place in freezer (in freezer bag). Reheat in microwave when ready to eat.
