FOREWORD

Architecture is mutually the process and the product of planning, designing, and constructing buildings or other structures with the aim to ultimately improve human life, by creating timeless, free, joyous spaces for all life’s activities. Interior Design is the art of enhancing the interior of a building to achieve a healthier and a more aesthetically pleasing environment for the people using the space. It is the seamless enjoyment of both that ultimately achieves a perfect unison.  Thomas trained in London at the University of Westminster and at the Architectural Association. He has also made furniture, lights and has always been fascinated by the making, designing and creating of not only buildings or interior spaces, but products.

His work as an architect has been diverse, however he found that his passion lay in designing timeless beautiful homes. It has always been exceptionally important for Thomas to genuinely respond to the particular requirements of the client, the site and significantly the budget.

Thomas opened TG Studio in 2011 and his portfolio of works is a testament to the success of the studio’s creativity and approach to architecture and interior design.

PREFACE

This book is about my studio’s projects over the last decade and contains a selection of some of the work.

I grew up in the south of Germany, in a small town surrounded by rolling forest and vineyards. In childhood, I spent time drawing and making things and knew that after leaving school I wanted to pursue a creative career.

I moved to London to study

architecture at the University of Westminster and decided to stay. I now call London home.

In 2011 I opened my studio where I have been fortunate to design homes in some of London’s leading residential locations and internationally. This has meant quite a few historical refurbishments and conversions as well as new built homes, all with the purpose to create a modern home.

Consequently, I have grown into an architect specialised in interior architecture and delivering exceptionally bespoke homes. I have also become a great admirer of photographic art, it is that photograph that captures the moment of the composition. The composition of beauty and perfection.

Each project featured within this book is as unique as the individual client behind the project and as diverse as its location and setting.

ST JAMES'S PARK LONDON

Within the boundaries of Buckingham Palace and to the side of St James's Park, this impressive apartment is located in a 1970s residential building surrounded by London’s historic architectural heritage.

The brief was to reflect on the grand surrounding architecture, history and location and create a comfortable modern British interior.

Looking out onto a lush English garden, the ample living room was given a sense of lightness and spaciousness by introducing a lit ceiling soffit and traditional oak herringbone floorboards.
