A long gallery spans the full length of the residence and effectively bisects it, with the great room on the side facing the view, and the private quarters on the opposite side. above: Entering the house through modernist glass-and-steel frame doors, one encounters two large bookcases—one at each end of the space. Displaying books, art, and sculptures collected over many years, they give the gallery a sense of permanence and personal history. opposite: Wood panels connected by narrow battens infuse the axis with warmth and create a rhythmic procession that lends a reassuring regularity from end to end.
