BY MILTON H. GREENE: 50 sessions Milton H. Greene (1922-1985), famous for his fashion photography and celebrity portraits from the golden age of Hollywood, met Marilyn Monroe on a photo shoot for Look magazine in 1953.

They became close friends and ultimately business partners, founding Marilyn Monroe Productions, Inc. When their personal and professional relationship ended as a result of Marilyn’s marriage to Arthur Miller in 1957, the embittered Greene withdrew his large picture archive of her and went on to continue his own professional and successful career as a photographer for the rest of his life.

Following Greene’s passing, his son, Joshua, who spent time with Marilyn as a small child, began to meticulously restore his father’s legacy. As a photographer himself, Joshua was well-versed in the challenges of restoring an archive to the original state, and as a result of his work, he established ‘The Archives’, a company committed to the restoration of photography.

After spending nearly two decades restoring his father’s archive, Joshua Greene and his company are widely regarded as one of the leading photograph restoration companies operating worldwide, and credited for bringing new techniques and technical advancement to this important craft.

Clothing Designer Anne Klein sent various outfits to Milton’s studio for Marilyn to wear, however all the outfits were two sizes too small. Peasant On one of those glorious Sunday afternoons on the backlots of 20th Century Fox, Milton and Marilyn photographed the ‘Peasant Sitting’. Taken on May 24, 1954, this series was photographed on the French village set used for What Price Glory. Milton, inspired by the screenplay The Brothers Karamazov, believed in Marilyn’s ability to be a dramatic actress and to prove it to her, he photographed her in the costume that Jennifer Jones wore in her Oscarwinning performance in Song of Bernadette.

Swimming Pool Taken in Connecticut in 1956, these images of a young freckle-faced star reveal an intimate side seen only by few. During the summer, Marilyn and the Greene family would go a mile down the road to the home of Richard Rogers and end a hot summer day with a cool swim in the pool.
