SEEDLING is the smallest of all the seed brothers. He lives happily, clinging onto his yellow flower, the Dandelion. Despite his name, the Dandelion isn’t really anything like a lion, because he’s actually a scaredy-cat!

SEEDLING is the smallest of all the seed brothers. He lives happily, clinging onto his yellow flower, the Dandelion. Despite his name, the Dandelion isn’t really anything like a lion, because he’s actually a scaredy-cat!

One day, while enjoying the springtime sun, a bee buzzes past.

SEEDLING hides. He doesn’t want to be carried away from his flower!

“Don’t be scared,” says the bee, “Come outside, your flower won’t be able to hold you much longer anyway!” SEEDLING says to himself:

One day, while enjoying the springtime sun, a bee buzzes past.

SEEDLING hides. He doesn’t want to be carried away from his flower!

Sucked away into the wind, he cries, whirling around again and again!

Back on the ground, SEEDLING starts to be afraid and sobs with fear.

“Ha, look at that tiny seed!” says a rough voice. It is Tom the worm, who tries to encourage him: “Instead of sitting there crying, do what I do: start digging and hide underground. You’ll be safe there.”

SEEDLING digs and digs and digs some more and, finally, exhausted, he ends up a few inches underground and there, he falls asleep. During the night, it starts to rain.

In the morning when he awakes, the sun shines warm and bright.

SEEDLING notices a thin green thread coming out of his tummy. “And where did you come from?” he cries in fright. Over the next few days, the green thread grows longer and stronger and eventually makes its way up out of the ground. Now SEEDLING remembers the stories he has heard from other seeds and finally understands what is going on!

“IT’S ME, SEEDLING! DON’T YOU REMEMBER ME? I HAVE BECOME A FLOWER.” The butterfly lands gently on him, takes in his soft perfume and leaves him a bit of pollen.

Then she flies away, happy to have helped the seed on his journey.
