Our Minds Under Siege
How to Avoid Being Manipulated in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
Author, curator, and podcaster Bruno Giussani writes about the “technologies of influence” and their social and political implications. In a world saturated with information, social media, artificial intelligence, and strategies of cognitive influence, our capacity for thinking clearly and understanding reality is itself under threat. It is no longer only about disinformation and fake news: these technologies capture our attention, appropriate our data, analyze and exploit our emotions and challenge our autonomy of thought.
Giussani decrypts how AI and other algorithmic technologies work and what their impacts are. He explains the nature of the relationship that is developing between us and these machines and the economic and power structures in which they exist. And he offers guidance to resisting against this technological takeover and for us to become competent users of AI without being used by it.

Anti-Environments
On the Exploration of Unconventional Tools through Friction and Norm-Bending
In Anti-Environments, designer-artist Luis Adrian Borchardt explores how misusing digital tools and alternative design processes can unearth new creative potential and lead to greater autonomy and experimental practice with digital media. He deliberately examines fields of tension and software limitations to break with conventional ways of use and to open new, unexplored avenues for creativity. He advocates for digital media being understood as dynamic formative systems to be made use of and to be repurposed, rather than as linear processes. Produced entirely in Google Sheets and avoiding conventional design programs, Borchardt’s book demonstrates an alternative hybrid publishing approach, allowing readers to print a work from the internet and bind the volume themselves. Borchardt is a trailblazer for a more open, democratic concept of disseminating knowledge and making it accessible.

Atelier Peter Zumthor
Architecture Models 1992–2024
First book focusing on architect Peter Zumthor’s fascinating working models
Features some 350 images of models and material studies for 47 buildings and unrealized projects by Atelier Peter Zumthor, many of them published for the first time
Models are a core tool for Peter Zumthor and his studio in the creation of their unique designs
Peter Zumthor is one of the world’s most famous and most distinguished contemporary architects
Models of various sizes and scales, as well as material studies, are an essential working tool for celebrated Swiss architect Peter Zumthor. They serve to examine spatial ideas, shapes, materialization, and artisanal aspects of the buildings on which the architect and his studio collaborators are working. These architectural models are always sophisticated, some are spectacular, and many are very detailed, while others are deliberately rough. They have been on display in exhibitions internationally and have fascinated a wide audience.
Atelier Peter Zumthor: Architecture Models, the first-ever book focusing on Atelier Zumthor’s models, features some 350 color and black-and-white photographs. They show models made of a wide variety of materials for 47 of Zumthor’s buildings and unrealized projects, ranging from the Therme Vals Thermal Spa and the Kunsthaus Bregenz to the recently completed new building for the LACMA in Los Angeles and the extension for the Fondation Beyeler near Basel, which opens later in 2026. The models exude a strong sensual presence and reflect Peter Zumthor’s pursuit of an architecture in which the construction and material create an intense atmosphere.
Hannele Grönlund is a Finnish-born architect, designer, and curator. She served as director of exhibitions at the Museum of Finnish Architecture (now Architecture and Design Museum) in Helsinki (1998–2002).
Peter Zumthor works with his atelier of around 30 people in the Alpine setting of Haldenstein, Switzerland, producing architectural originals such as the Kunsthaus Bregenz, Therme Vals, Museum Kolumba Köln, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s new David Geffen Galleries, and the extension of Fondation Beyeler near Basel. He is the 2009 Pritzker Architecture Prize laureate.

Herbert Matter
Visual Sensation
Swiss-American designer and photographer Herbert Matter (1907–1984) is a leading figure in 20th-century graphic design
This monograph offers a uniquely comprehensive survey of Herbert Matter’s entire career and the full range of his multifaceted art
Showcases the expanse of Herbert Matter’s creativity that goes far beyond his iconic poster designs
Highlights Herbert Matter’s undogmatic artistic approach, which has lost none of its inspirational power for today’s graphic designers
Lavishly illustrated with reproductions of visual material from Herbert Matter’s estate, most of which are published here for the first time ever
Herbert Matter (1907–1984) is a leading figure in 20th-century graphic design. Born in Switzerland and educated in Geneva and Paris, he lived in the United States from 1936, where he had a distinguished career as a designer, photographer, and educator. He created iconic posters, developed editorial designs for major magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, and collaborated with great artists of his time, including Le Corbusier, Alberto Giacometti, and Alexander Calder.
Herbert Matter: Visual Sensation fills a gap. Unlike earlier books on Matter, this monograph comprehensively covers his entire career and the full range of his multifaceted work. It is heavily illustrated with some 600 color images of his works in all genres, sketches, and references—many of which have never been published before, and others featured in color for the first time. It reveals the expanse of Matter’s creativity that goes far beyond his famous poster designs, highlighting in particular his photographic and cinematic work as well as his significance as an educator. And it offers a nuanced discourse on Matter’s visual art by connecting with the cultural spheres of Switzerland, France, and America that shaped his personality.
Jonas Berthod is a design historian and author. He teaches and researches at ECAL in Lausanne and at London’s Kingston School of Art.
Gilles Gavillet is principal of Geneva-based graphic design studio Gavillet & Cie and founder of Optimo Type Foundry. He is also a professor of graphic design at ECAL in Lausanne.

Benoît
Artist
in Architecture
Showcases ten outstanding art-inarchitecture works by Belgian artist Benoît van Innis (1960–2024), which exemplify a genuine integration of art into the built environment
Highlights interdisciplinary collaboration as a method between architects and artists to achieve new forms and modes of expression
Presents Benoît van Innis’s exceptionally diverse, rich, and accessible body of work by an artist who did not limit himself to a single discipline, material, or audience
Challenges the widespread view that art which cannot be clearly categorized is inherently of lesser quality
Belgian artist and illustrator Benoît van Innis (1960–2024) created numerous drawings and cartoons that were published in both European and American magazines, most prominently The New Yorker. From the late 1990s, he increasingly turned to painting, engaged with architecture, and was involved in various projects that brought together art and the built environment.
Benoît: Artist in Architecture is the first book to feature the artist’s collaboration with Belgian, Swiss, and British design firms De Smet Vermeulen, EM2N, JTA/aDVVT, Kraaijvanger Architects, Marie-José Van Hee, Robbrecht en Daem, noAarchitecten, and Sergison Bates architects. It offers insight into his creative exchanges with architects and traces the emergence of a shared, new authorship in the interplay of art and architecture.
Organized into four thematic chapters—titled Table, Space, Landscape, and City —ten of Benoît’s spatial works are presented in depth, each introduced by a descriptive text. Supplementing essays shed light on Benoît’s methods and craftsmanship. The volume is rounded out with an illustrated complete catalog of Benoît’s entire art-in-architecture oeuvre.
An Fonteyne is a founding partner of Brussels-based firm noAarchitecten in Brussels and a professor of affective architectures in the Department of Architecture at ETH Zürich.
Elke Schoonen is an architect and researcher at the Chair of Affective Architecture at ETH Zürich’s Department of Architecture.

Pierrette Bloch
The Act of Writing
Franco-Swiss artist Pierrette Bloch (1928–2017) is one of the most eminent figures in European abstract art
Despite widespread recognition, Pierrette Bloch’s work has remained scarcely published to date
The book features a previously unpublished text by Pierrette Bloch alongside several of her works that have never been on public display or published before
Exhibition: Pierette Bloch—The Act of Writing at the Museo Villa dei Cedri in Bellinzona, Switzerland (September 11, 2026, to January 31, 2027)
Franco-Swiss artist Pierrette Bloch (1928–2017) is considered one of the leading figures in postwar abstract art. Her artistic language explores the concepts of seriality and the repetition of forms in space, playing with rhythm and orientation, ambivalence of fullness and emptiness, and the contrast of black and white. Bloch questions the relationships between drawing and sculpture, time, and graphic signs. Her ink drawings and horsehair sculptures are connected to the process of writing in its multiple forms.
Illustrated with numerous reproductions of her works, Pierrette Bloch: The Act of Writing sheds light on this intertwining of writing and art. The book’s focus on the significance of writing in Bloch’s oeuvre and her engagement with literature reveals the intimacy of her art and the profound influence writing has had on her life. The volume is rounded out with a previously unpublished text by Pierrette Bloch herself.
Carole Haensler is an art historian and curator and director of the Museo Villa dei Cedri in Bellinzona, Switzerland.

Olaf Breuning Humans
Features some 60 new and previously unpublished drawings by distinguished Swiss-born Americanbased artist Olaf Bruninger
Arranged thematically and supplemented with photographs, video stills, and installation and exhibition views, the drawings offer an independent visual reading of Olaf Breuning’s art
Supplementing essays explore topics such as human existence and the environment, masculinity and defeat, genius and stupidity, consumer and popular culture, and generations and temporality
Exhibition: Olaf Breuning. Humans at Museum zu Allerheiligen in Schaffhausen, Switzerland (until September 27, 2026)
Olaf Breuning: Humans brings together works mainly created since 2016 by the New York State-based Swiss artist. They revolve around universal themes and questions dealing with the relationship between humankind, nature, and technology. Reckless exploitation of resources and climate change play a major role in Breuning’s recent work. He exposes the fractures and failures, naivety, and stupidity that characterize much of human behavior as relentlessly as he does the absurd and the amusing. Around 60 recent drawings by Breuning constitute the book’s common thread. Photographs, video stills, and views of installations and exhibitions complement these drawings to create an independent visual reading. The bizarre meets a brightly colored, attractive repertoire of images, creating an idiosyncratic cosmos that promotes exhilaration as well as contemplation. Two scholarly essays introduce Olaf Breuning’s multilayered artistic practice, while two literary contributions offer a wider view of his visual world.
Merten is an art historian and curator of contemporary art at Museum zu Allerheiligen in Schaffhausen, Switzerland.

Liotard
& Marie-Antoinette (Re-)Discovering a
Masterpiece
Geneva-born artist Jean-Étienne Liotard (1702–1789) was one of the great portraitists of his time. Held in high regard by Empress Maria Theresa, he created numerous portraits of members of the Austrian imperial family, among them Archduchess Maria-Antonia (1755–1793), later Marie-Anoinette Queen-consort of France, and Emperor Franz I Stephan. A group of 11 portrait drawings showing members of the House of HabsburgLorraine are held today in the collection of Geneva’s Musée d’art et d’histoire (MAH).
Liotard & Marie-Antoinette is published to coincide with an exhibition at the MAH. It is based on a unique interdisciplinary research project that combined conventional archival research with state-of-the art facial recognition technology and forensics, comparing historic paintings and drawings as well as modern digital images to identify with precision the individuals portrayed by Liotard.
The volume makes the findings of this fascinating dialogue between art historians, scholars of 18th-century history, and researchers in the fields of artificial intelligence and forensics accessible to a broader audience. It offers an unusually multifaceted view of Liotard’s masterful drawings and an approach to the stories hidden within them that is equally exciting and novel.
Marie-Eve Celio-Scheurer is senior curator and head of the Graphic Arts Collection at the Musée d’art et d’histoire in Geneva (MAH).
Catriona Seth is a professor of French literature at the University of Oxford and leads a research project on the correspondence of the French queen Marie-Antoinette at the Palace of Versailles Research Centre.

Richard Coray (1869–1946), Life and Work
Falsework for Bridges and Viaducts
The lines of the world-famous Rhaetian Railway along the valleys of the Swiss canton of Grisons cross countless rivers and streams. In some cases, this required daring structures—such as the viaducts of Langwies, Solis, and Wiesen—that have become icons of civil engineering and destinations for railway enthusiasts from all over the world. The falsework required for their construction was designed by Richard Coray (1869–1946). Born in the village of Trin, in the Grisons, he trained as a carpenter and later studied at Technikum Winterthur (today part of Zurich University of Applied Sciences ZHAW), and has been a household name in engineering worldwide for more than a century. He was involved also in the construction of the Baghdad railway in Turkey. Richard Coray (1869–1946), Life and Work is the most comprehensive book to date on this master of civil engineering, tracing his life and career and highlighting his lasting significance. Some 400 historic photographs, plans, and other documents illustrate the construction of Coray’s falseworks, the techniques he applied, and the often adventurous circumstances under which these spectacular—yet inevitably ephemeral—structures came into being. A gallery of color images, featuring some of them as meticulously detailed models and bringing their enduring fascination to life, rounds out the book.

Ten essays by distinguished architect and theorist Bruno Reichlin on three fundamental themes of 20th-century architecture: function, tectonics, and space

Bill, «Ein Denkmal» (1953), in: Werk, 44 (1957), Nr. 7, S. 254.

Bruno Reichlin ranks among the most eminent architectural theorists of our time. His writing and his work as a designing architect are marked by a deep understanding of how signs and symbols manifest themselves in buildings, as well as a broad frame of references—ranging from literature and film to visual art.
This second volume of Bruno Reichlin’s collected writings brings together ten pieces that address fundamental themes of 20th-century architecture. In contextualizing designs historically and examining them from social, technical, and cultural perspectives, Reichlin always directs his analytical gaze toward the work itself. Function, tectonics, and space as key concepts of architectural practice and debate are thus defined, broken down, and examined through examples by major figures of modern architecture, such as Alberto Sartoris, Robert Mallet-Stevens, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Frederick Kiesler, Max Bill, the Italian group BBPR, and Carlo Mollino.
Bruno Reichlin, born 1941, is an architect and one of the world’s most distinguished architectural historians and theorists. He has taught at the University of Geneva (1985–2006) and at the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio (2001–2011). Prior to his academic career he ran his own studio in Lugano together with Fabio Reinhart.
Catherine Dumont d’Ayot is a lecturer at ETH Zürich’s Department of Architecture and engages in exhibition, publication, and architectural projects.

Chapallaz is famous in particular for the formal power of his works, his mastery of glazes, and the depth of the artistic research underpinning his approach. In his highly personal language, traditional craftsmanship, technical experiment, and sculptural ambition converge. His often monumental forms reflect a constant engagement with the properties of clay, the effects of fire, and the expressive possibilities of ceramic surfaces.
The essays in this volume shed light on the evolution and context of Chapallaz’s art as well as its aesthetic and technical challenges, richly illustrated with images of works, studio photographs, letters, and other documents from archives. An illustrated chronology traces the artist’s life. Previously unpublished texts by Edouard Chapallaz himself, offering insight into his thoughts on materials, glazes, and firing techniques, round out this beautiful volume.
Claude Chapallaz is a geologist and the youngest son of Edouard Chapallaz. Together with his wife, Anne-Claude Chapallaz, he is in charge of Edouard Chapallaz’s estate.
Chris Gautschi is a Lausanne-based graphic designer specializing in book and editorial design, and art direction.

Jean Planque: painter, collector, and legendary Swiss art dealer Ernst Beyeler’s “eyes” on the Paris art
market
Jean Planque (1910–1998) came from the modest background of a farming family in the Swiss canton of Vaud. After finishing school in Lausanne, he took a commercial job in Basel, where he began painting in 1929, inspired by the art of Paul Klee. His acquaintance with the painter René Auberjonois and the renowned Geneva-based publisher and gallery owner Albert Skira deepened his interest in art. In 1945, the Zurich art dealer Gottfried Tanner recognized Planque’s assured sense of art and entrusted him with scouting for and purchasing artworks in Paris, which Planque had made his main place of residence in 1948. Having made a modest fortune from his earlier work as a salesman for animal feed, Planque also began to build his own art collection.
In 1954, Planque met the legendary Swiss art dealer Ernst Beyeler. A close collaboration between the two soon began, with Planque virtually becoming Beyeler’s “eyes” on the Paris art market. This lasted until Planque’s return to his native Switzerland in 1972 due to deteriorating health. He devoted his final years to his own painting, his art collection, and recording the story of his extraordinary life.
Florian Rodari is a Geneva-based art historian, author, editor, and freelance curator. He serves on the board of the Fondation Jean et Suzanne Planque and curates exhibitions that feature works from its collection.

Photo-sensible
André Schmid, Léonore Baud, Olivier Jeannin
A fascinating engagement by contemporary photographers with the artisanal expressiveness and raw materiality of historic glass negatives
The first book featuring work by photographer Swiss André Schmid (1836–1914), who ran one of the country’s first commercial photography studios
Exhibition: Photo-sensible: André Schmid, Léonore Baud, Olivier Jeannin at the Musée Historique Lausanne (September 10, 2026, to March 14, 2027)
In the age of digitally generated images, analog methods of depicting and capturing objects, events, and impressions hold a powerful, sometimes nostalgic appeal. These thousands of glass negatives by photographer André Schmid (1836–1914), who ran the first commercial photography studio in the Swiss city of Lausanne, constitute a fascinating legacy. His images offer insights into late 19th and early 20th-century society and its norms. With their raw, artisanal expressiveness and a materiality highlighted by traces of wear, Schmid’s glass negatives unfold as a unique aesthetic that combines realism, transience, and poetry.
Photo-sensible offers insights into André Schmid’s estate held at the Musée Historique Lausanne, with many of his images published in this book for the first time ever. This window into the past is juxtaposed with works by contemporary photographic artists Léonore Baud and Olivier Jeannin, as well as graduates of the photography class at the École cantonale d’art de Lausanne (ECAL), which highlight the sensual power of André Schmid’s historic images.
Through its exhibitions, the Musée Historique Lausanne explores the many facets of the city’s cultural heritage. Its extensive collections document cultural, economic, social, and political aspects of Lausanne’s history. Scheidegger

First publication of SAINF, a longterm project by award-winning Swiss photographer Olivier Vogelsang
Oliver Vogelsang’s SAINF documents everyday life, urban changes, and defining events at Place SaintFrançois, a major hub of public life in the Swiss city of Lausanne
The book is designed as an immersive reading experience that constructs a progressive visual narrative through montage
Lausanne’s Place Saint-François is a reflection and distillation of contemporary urbanity, revealing social changes, forms of coexistence, and tensions
Olivier Vogelsang SAINF
Place Saint-François, Lausanne
The Place Saint-François in Lausanne is one of the busiest spaces of the Swiss city: public transportation hub, gathering place, shopping district, and site of civic engagement and demonstrations. Situated on the edge of Lausanne’s historic city center, it defies a single definition. Shaped by its many uses and architectural styles, as well as by the diversity of people who sojourn or pass through, it manifests a reflection and distillation of contemporary urban life.
Swiss photographer Olivier Vogelsang’s long-term art project SAINF, which he has been conducting since 2019, documents everyday life, urban changes, and defining events that shape the Place Saint-François as a public space. The series, shot with a medium-format camera, forms a sensitive fresco in which the passage of time, individual life-paths, and collective tensions intersect. With a patient and attentive eye, SAINF recounts a slice of microcosmic urban history.
Olivier Vogelsang is a Swiss-based freelance documentary photographer. He has been honored with first prizes at the Swiss Press Photo Awards and won the Prix Nicolas-Bouvier for photography. His previous photo books include Switzerlanders (2012), Grand-messe (2017), and Fractures (2018).

Backforward
Flavio Micheli
Flavio Micheli is one of Switzerland’s leading conceptual photographic artists
First publication of Flavio Micheli’s recent Backforward series
Swiss-born photographer Flavio Micheli’s Backforward series emerged from the immediate appeal of motifs. They tell of events and traces, making palpable an inherent tension between the explicitly depicted and the implicitly suggested. People are scarcely visible, yet their presence can be subtly sensed. Their traces become reference points leading back to memory and instigating imagination. At first glance, Micheli’s images seem to be unspectacular vedute that only upon closer inspection reveal the underlying, nonverbal sphere. The partial coloring of pictures shot in black and white reinforces this ambivalence and leads to a shift in focus.
Brief texts on Micheli’s art by writer Annelisa Alleva and translator Silvia Kleist, as well as a lyrical “Letter from the Past for Tomorrow” by journalist and performance artist Anja Nora Schulthess, round out this carefully designed volume.
Flavio Micheli is a Rome-based Swiss photographic artist. Initially trained as a stone sculptor, he attended sculpture classes at Lucerne’s School of Applied Arts and completed his artistic education at the Accademia di Belle Arti Brera in Milan (1980–1984).

Luisa Figini Opere 1985–2025
First monograph on Swiss contemporary artist Luisa Figini
Features works by Luisa Figini from four decades alongside previously unpublished materials from her archive
Luisa Figini, born in 1954 and based in her native Swiss canton of Ticino, works with an intuitive and poetic perception of space and other people, integrating sensory experiences. She draws on various contemporary artistic movements—such as Arte Povera, conceptual art, and video art—and transforms them. Figini’s art has evolved from early figurative works in clay and terracotta to installations that she composes from synthetic and natural materials such as wax, hair, intestines, or paper, as well as video and audio elements. Her most recent work is hybrid in nature, combining moving images with painting and drawing.
This first monograph on Luisa Figini charts her career spanning over decades and situates it within the Swiss contemporary art scene. It features an extensive selection from her oeuvre, supplemented by previously unpublished materials from her archive.

Vias d’art Pontresina An
Anthology
Art in public spaces in the Alpine landscape of the Engadine: the triennial Vias d’art Pontresina
The Vias d’art Pontresina triennial in the Swiss Alpine region of the Engadine offers contemporary art in public spaces, easily accessible to residents and tourists visiting from all over the world
Since 2008, Vias d’art Pontresina has powerfully demonstrated how art touches and connects local people and visitors
Some 360 color plates and essays document the universal traces of the seven editions of the Vias d’art Pontresina staged since 2008
The triennial Vias d’art Pontresina offers contemporary art in public spaces for the residents of this Alpine village in the Engadine, accessible without queueing or advance booking, and with free admission to all. Seven editions since 2008 have displayed art that is moving because it relates to the local people, their environment, their history, and their strong and vibrant traditions. Through the Vias d’art, Pontresina has also become the site for innovative artistic research that opens up new perspectives, and prevents a sense of alienation in a place of longing, that is shared between some 2,000 residents and 1000s of tourists visiting from all over the world.
Some 360 color plates alongside the essays compiled in this book explore the universal traces of seven open-air art shows in striking Alpine surroundings, and demonstrate how local art trails can become global spaces.
Benno Conrad is a Pontresina-based art educator and curator.
Pontresina Cultura is a public organization responsible for the village of Pontresina’s cultural program.

Biennale Bregaglia 2026
An illustrated review of the 2026 edition of the 2026 Biennale Bregaglia art exhibition in Switzerland
Features some 80 photographs of artworks by ten Swiss artists embedded in the vibrant Alpine landscape of Val Bregaglia in the Swiss canton of Grisons
Includes profiles of the participating artists and their works on display
Contemporary art in the vibrant Alpine landscape of Val Bregaglia
Since 2020, the Biennale Bregaglia has brought together artists and their works in the vibrant landscape of Val Bregaglia, in the southern part of the Swiss canton of Grisons. The region has been an important route for centuries, where architectural, cultural–historical, linguistic, and climatic threads converge.
Published to coincide with Biennale Bregaglia’s 2026 edition is a diary-like illustrated review of the open-air exhibition. Images and texts are interwoven in a continuous dialogue. Flashbacks and personal memories evoke emotions connected to the various locations and the works and installations they hosted. This results in an immersive narrative shifting between memory, observation, and reflection. Profiles of participating artists, a poetic text by Spanish-born Swiss writer and artist Begoña Feijoo Fariña, and an essay by curator Anna Radaelli round out the volume.
Anna Radaelli is an Italy-based curator. Prior to the 2026 Biennale Bregaglia, she has curated contemporary art shows in the Italian region of Valtellina and the Swiss cantons of Grisons and Ticino, and has collaborated with institutions such as the Pinault Collection in Paris, the University of Southampton for the 2013 Venice Biennale, and the 2008 Sydney Biennale.
