As early as in the late 1960s, I visited an exhibition of original Chinese New Year paintings at the Exhibition Hall of the City Hall in Hong Kong Central district. A lot of colorful works were exhibited. Some of them were drawn with meticulous care, others were noticeable for their bright colorful hues. The themes were about the expectation of nice days, or the portraits of a variety of vibrant people, and they deeply impressed me. In the 1970s, when visiting Guangzhou, many large-scale propaganda images painted on the walls could also be found on the main streets. Printed versions with propaganda slogans could also be seen in the local bookstores. People could feel the sincere heart of socialism from those charming and visually impressive pictures. VIGOROUS YOUTH

The Youth is like the sun at eight or nine o’clock in the morning, which is the most prosperous and energetic period for the great dreams and creativity of the young generation. Youth is the best time for working. A female engineer with a measuring ruler confidently looks far into the distance: light gently shines on her young face; her skirt sways in the newly built city. She will devote her youth to changing her country. The workers toil in the factory, the soldiers defend the country on the frontier, and the teachers spread knowledge in the classroom... Youth is the best time for labouring. In the spring, they come to a new world to till with farm tools and to sweat on the fertile land. In autumn, they labor devotedly for the construction of their country and reap a harvest after hard work. Youth is the best time for learning. The young pioneers are wearing red scarves and aspire to be the flag-bearers of tomorrow. They hold books to learn advanced knowledge, establish correct views on life, values and the world, and strive to realize China's industrialization. Youth is the best time for exploration and innovation fearless of hardship. They accept arduous tasks given by their motherland and overcome difficulties. They are hardworking and self-reliant in economic recovery and construction tasks, and bring rapid changes to the country. Today, the young bravely shoulder the tasks of this era, aiming high and with their feet on the ground, trying to realize the Chinese dream.
