S PAC E M OV E S BY NINA MONTEE & DR. HARVEY KARP

“What he creates is more than a place to live. It is a place to feel, to reflect, and to be - fully.”

iii

At Nina and my first meeting with Patrick, we both sensed we were in the presence of an architect of rare creativity a n d d e e p h u m a n i t y. A s o u r r e l a t i o n s h i p g r e w, i t b e c a m e c l e a r t h a t t h i s f i r s t impression only scratched the surface. P a t r i c k ’s w o r k i s u n m i s t a k a b l y o r i g i n a l , lyrical, intelligent, and emotionally resonant. He does not simply design buildings. He composes inhabitable artworks, places shaped by light, proportion, movement, and care. His architecture is recognizable not through repetition, but through clarity of vision and a quiet confidence that gives each project its own life.

a n d e a s e s i t s a t t h e h e a r t o f P a t r i c k ’s work.

The home Patrick designed for us is exactly that. A poetic, sculptural work that feels deeply personal and impossible t o c o n f u s e w i t h a n y o n e e l s e ’s . I t d o e s not follow a style or trend. It reveals an idea. Living within it feels both expressive and comfortable, bold and intimate. That balance between ambition

I n P a t r i c k ’s a r c h i t e c t u r e , s p a c e m o v e s . Circulation is never an afterthought. Paths unfold as sequences, carefully composed transitions that guide the b o d y a n d t h e e y e . Wa l l s f e e l i n t e n t i o n a l . Sometimes protective, sometimes light, sometimes held in quiet tension. Planes tilt, sweep, and interlock with a sense

T h e q u a l i t i e s t h a t d e f i n e P a t r i c k ’s architecture mirror the ones we admire in him as a person. A broad imagination grounded in rigorous thought. A musical sensitivity to rhythm, structure, and pacing. A genuine respect for everyone at the table. He pays close attention to nuance, the grain of a material, the softness of an edge, the way a room opens toward a horizon. That attentiveness, both conceptual and s e n s o r y, a n i m a t e s e v e r y g e s t u r e i n h i s work.

Ye t for all its precision, the work remains w a r m a n d w e l c o m i n g , r o o t e d i n t a c t i l i t y, wood, stone, and moments designed for pause. L i g h t i s o n e o f P a t r i c k ’s m o s t essential materials. It is shaped and choreographed with care. Mor ning light skims across textured surfaces. After noon light filters through screens, shifting as the day unfolds. At night, the architecture glows from within, tur ning interior space into something calm and protective. The buildings feel alive to time. P a t r i c k ’s m a t e r i a l p a l e t t e i s t h o u g h t f u l and distinct. He is unafraid of contrast, smooth against rough, matte against reflective, solid against perforated. Grandeur is balanced by restraint. Complexity is met with calm. A stair becomes a spine. A window becomes

It is a true privilege to know Patrick not only as an architect, but as the person behind the work. Thoughtful, generous, exacting in the best sense. What he creates is more than a place to live. It is a place to feel, to reflect, and t o b e - f u l l y.

Approaching the house, the landscape guides you forward, and the feeling of arrival settles slowly as the architecture reveals itself in calm layers. The sense of privacy and stillness forms the character of the home long before you step inside. W ithin the main living level, wide glass walls open to the gardens and bring the hillside directly into the space. Screens soften the sun and create an atmosphere that feels both open and sheltered. The upper level floats lightly above the lower rooms, shaped carefully by the slope of the site. Its faceted form gives the home a sculptural presence, while the openings frame small, e x p r e s s i v e v i e w s o f t h e c a n y o n , t h e t r e e s a n d t h e s k y.
