PREFACE
by Curtis J. Moody
FAIA, NOMA, NCARB, LEED AP
Moody Nolan has come a long way since we laid the foundation for this company in 1982 with just two employees. Since then, we’ve grown from a Midwestern architecture firm to a national practice with a footprint of successes that speak to, and reflect the cultures of, our communities. Along the way we’ve remained true to our creative process and committed to our guiding principles.
In many respects, a lot has changed with regard to our craft. What we build and how we build it continues to grow and evolve, keeping us on our toes and always looking ahead at what’s next. But at the same time, some things remain unchanged – namely why we do what we do and the principles that guide us in our work, no matter how big or small the project.
As we’ve grown in size and reputation, and as we’ve expanded nationwide into new markets, we’ve challenged ourselves to bridge the divides between architecture and engineering, art and science, between what is possible and what is purposeful. In fact, striking this kind of balance is among the most intriguing parts of our work. It is this sense of intrigue that has allowed us to offer solutions that perform, inspire and ultimately endure.
Our successes did not happen without exceptional talent, which is represented in this latest volume of our firm’s work. The architecture represented here spans the years between 2013 and 2019 and reflects the completed projects and conceptual ideas of a firm committed to excellence with a purpose.
However, this volume is much more than an architecture book. It is also a testament to the good things that happen when clients, communities and design architects walk hand-in-hand for a common purpose.
