The railway extended as far as the eye can see, Just like in a dream.

If you stood on the sleepers, You could gaze into the distance And be confident the destination was dead ahead.

I imagined it as humid, With restless night breezes.

The train wheels sputtering out cool air.

I thought I could just make out the horizon.

But I imagined it.

Was it misty and always raining over there?

You were curled up against your pillow, Eyes closed, when the window began to rattle.

A wheeltapper was inspecting the axles with a hammer.

Your bed and the window gradually moved forward along the tracks, Rattling away, Your bed flying along.

As you lay there, The sound lulled you to sleep.

Two were grey, the last was crimson. They were all very quiet…

I caught two of them and feared the last would fly away; But it stayed where it was.

I hesitated…at that moment, I woke up.
