How to teach your Dragon to Help

Page 1

Hello, I’m Baby Dragon, and this is my friend Lily. We play together and have lots of fun. I learn so many very important—and magical— things from her!

Hello! My name is Lily, and this is my friend Baby Dragon!

I teach him something new every day, to make him even kinder and more clever.

Do you want to know how I taught Baby Dragon to HELP? Turn the page to read the story...

“Are you sure we’re allowed in there?”

Baby Dragon is staring at the entrance to the library. It’s a very big, very grey, and very serious-looking door.

“Yes! Wait and see,” Lily replies and takes Baby Dragon’s hand. He goes inside with her and can hardly believe his eyes.

“Wow!!!”
“I

told you it was an amazing place!” Lily says, grinning from ear to ear.

The two friends are surrounded by books.

Books on shelves.

Books on tables. Books everywhere!

Baby Dragon walks over and discovers something else: They’re all different! There are stories full of pictures and photos, and novels, comic books, atlases...even books that make sounds!

Baby Dragon doesn’t know where to start!

“Try to be quiet, though,” Lily urges. She points to two children who are quietly reading.

Baby Dragon loads his arms with books. They’re all so pretty and colorful! “Have you seen this one? And this one? And that one over there!” he says. Lily nods and smiles. She loves libraries—she always finds something really special.

Baby Dragon is holding a beautiful picture book as he walks past Lily. She’s on her tiptoes. She’s trying to reach a book on the third shelf. But she’s not quite tall enough. Baby Dragon stands and watches her.

“When you see someone struggling, it’s good to offer to help, you know. It would be a really special gesture,” Lily explains.

“Okay!” Baby Dragon replies.

A little later, Lily spies an enormous book. It’s up at the top, on the highest shelf!

“I’ll never reach that!” she says.

Baby Dragon nods and goes back to reading a comic book. What amazing drawings!

“What did I just tell you?” Lily asks patiently. Her friend looks up. “To be quiet!”

“Yes, and also that you can...” “Take all the books!”

Lily sighs.

“Not exactly, you can take a few, on loan.

But if you see someone struggling, you can offer to HELP...”

But Baby Dragon is already looking elsewhere; he leans forward to pick up a book with lots of dogs on the front cover. WOOF!

“Oh, this looks nice!” he chirps, then opens another one about animals.

Baby Dragon turns the pages. Ducks, chickens, horses. There are even frogs saying RIBBET, RIBBET everywhere... “Where are the lions?” he asks.

Lily stares up at the book on the top shelf and sighs again. She’s sad because her friend doesn’t understand that she needs help.

“Can you see that I need...”

“A drink!” Baby Dragon cries.

“No...”

“A nap!”

Lily shakes her head sadly.

“There’s the lion! ROAR!”

Baby Dragon says, showing the page to Lily. But she’s staring up and doesn’t reply.

Baby Dragon stops to think. He follows her gaze and sees the book that she needs.

“I’ll HELP you get it!” he exclaims, reaching up. It’s easy for Baby Dragon, even though it’s
“Thank you,” Lily gushes.

up high. He finally helped her!

Baby Dragon has learned to HELP people who are struggling to do something.

It’s a very special, magical gesture. When someone needs a hand, it’s nice to HELP and makes everyone smile! Why don’t you try to help someone near you!
