A devoted dog lover, Rock Hudson owned seven dogs of different breeds including Demi Tasse the Poodle and an Irish Setter named Tucker. He is seen her with his Schnauzer Murphy in a picture taken during the filming of Strange Bedfellows in 1965

Diana Rigg had been working in the theatre for five years before taking on the role of Emma Peel in The Avengers from 1965 to 1967.

It was a role that would define her to a generation of television viewers. In a 1967 interview with German fans she said ‘I have a white Poodle called Poopie the Ghost. He acts like a puppy’

Roscoe ‘Fatty’ Arbuckle, Keystone Studio, 1918

This American Staffordshire Terrier was a present to Arbuckle’s actor wife Minta Durfee from the film director Wilfred Lucas, after she had performed a particularly risky stunt in one of his films, and so it was named Luke after the director. He soon became Arbuckle’s canine sidekick and performed in eleven films with him between 1915 and 1920, and also appeared with Al St John and Buster Keaton

Covered up from the California sun, Pola Negri shares her sun lounger with a German Shepherd. Negri was a Polish actor who had trained as a ballet dancer and violinist before turning to film in Hollywood where her ‘exotic’ continental personality was used to great effect in silent pictures, most successfully under the direction of Ernst Lubitsch Photograph by Otto Dyer

Tracy hated being photographed, but was persuaded by Hepburn to pose for a publicity shot for Without Love, accompanied by the Cairn Terrier, Dizzy.
