The glass pavilion is the only part of the 1966 overarching design to have been realised, as a ‘lobby for the theatre in the gallery building’.

The hotels were built to the east of the spa centre. The latter were planned as point blocks, each no more than four storeys high. It was the decision taken by the proprietors to develop the high-rises into seventeen storeys, which led to conflicts on several levels. Since then high-rises have loomed over the resort, which was never the original intention.

⑥ Rathaus Mainz, 1973 Mainz

Its idiosyncratic architectural language was deliberately chosen to dissociate the town hall from the showy official style of the stately Renaissance and Baroque buildings that once housed archbishops and electors in Mainz.

Arne Jacobsen and Otto Weitling presented the Council Hall as the most important room in the building, its special status also architectonically rendered in that it is seemingly built as an independent annexe on the Rhine embankment.

About 250 metres long, the town hall surrounds the plaza in five sections on a monumental scale. The cheerful hall structures on the plaza contrast with the astringent main block. Their shell suspension roofs are elegantly curvilinear. Like awnings, matt yellow surfaces dip down to a human scale.
