Bed-Stuy Beer Design: Gustav Karlsson Photography: Gustav Karlsson Design Year: 2014 Client: School assignment
Concept/Background: Bed-Stuy Beer is a beer shop in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. My concept for this rebrand was to give the store a clean and original look, that would fit, but also break out from the brick building and the wooden interior.
Result: Since the shop has a lot of Brooklyn in it, I designed the Brooklyn icon system. But for this concept, Brooklyn has a lot of BedStuy Beer in it. So the Brooklyn-symbolizing icons all contain one or two beer bottles. Plainly, Bed-Stuy Beer makes Brooklyn. The store has nine different logotypes each containing one of the icons. The colors are inspired by different shades of beer and from the surrounding brick house area. The typeface named Bed-Sans, is custom made and designed to go well with icons, but also to be interesting enough by itself.
Since they have a big variation, and an often changing range of beer, I wanted to create a template for signs and tags that the store hand writes on, so that they can easily change the signs as often they need to. I also wanted to design the packaging for their Six Mix-concept, their growlers for draught beer, a bag, and a tape that easily can be applied on, for an example, kegs.

The assignment was to design a graphic identity and concept for Sushi & Co, a newly opened restaurant located in the Baltic cruise ship Silja Line. The identity was to be appealing and easily approachable to all cruise visitors, also to those who aren’t too familiar with sushi.
Fo r m a n y c r u i s e s h i p p a s s e n g e r s , S u s h i & Co. is the first sushi restaurant they have ever encountered. The restaurant needed a simple, accessible and inviting identity that works in the ship’s environment from morning to late night. Although sushi is the restaurant's main cuisine, the identity shouldn’t be too focused on solely sushi and that way exclude other foods the restaurant offers, such as sandwiches and salads. The new “&” sign implies both a fish and Sushi & Co.’s extensive menu. The new identity is a mélange of Scandinavian elements and oceanic symbols. The sophisticated color scheme consists of a rice inspired white, salmon red and a powerful black. The typography is a contemporary and Scandinavian design. The central part of the identity is the wave pattern that indicates the oceanic environment of the fish and the restaurant.

FRESHOP is a juice bar chain with stands located mainly in shopping malls. It offers a wide range of fruit juices, smoothies, yogurts and other healthy treats.
FRESHOP
With the incentive of keeping Freshop a leading player in their field, we decided that a complete re-branding is necessary. The solution was refreshingly simple: let's bring a rustic farm market experience to the cold urban mall.
