Dreamlike Maps Wanderings
A new kind of atlas, where the painter uses the maps as a canvas for his art.
One day, the painter Nicolas Vial found four engravings of the Egyptian campaign in poor condition in a trunk and set about painting on them. Inspired by his travels and by this find, he decided to use this material as a canvas for his own work.
Seeing this, his traveling friends from all over the globe sent him their own treasures: old nautical charts, most of them annotated, which had themselves greatly traveled.
Nicolas Vial wasted no time in illuminating them. In this
new kind of atlas, sometimes the map gives the painter the direction. At other times, he entangles his brushes, sailing transatlantic liners in the China Sea and icebreakers in the West Indies. Dominica becomes the smoke plume of a steamer and South Corsica the deck of an old sailing ship. Nicolas Vial sails by imagination.
This book is a compilation of the artist’s work on maps, sending the reader on a beautiful and illuminated journey on the seas.

Thanks to an exceptionally rich photography collection curated by Fnac since 1978, re-dicover the materpieces of world photography with 250 photos from Brassaï to Martin Parr curated by art historian and Jeu de Paume museum’s curator Quentin Bajac.
From its very beginnings, photography has given birth to images that still mark our collective imagination today. It transforms into icons both the most famous celebrities and anonymous persons as well.
Thanks to an exceptional photo collection built up since 1978 by Fnac, Quentin Bajac was able to bring together in this beautiful book the greatest representatives
of all photographic genres, drawing a history of twentiethcentury photography and a portrait of an era. It includes photos by : Brassaï, Henri CartierBresson, Robert Doisneau, Robert Capa, Sebastiao Salgado, Annie Leibovitz, Martin Parr and many others.

Lusted Men
A collection of erotic photographs of men
At the crossroads of art, research and manifesto, the photo book Lusted Men aims to fill a void: that left by erotic photographs of men. Where are these photographs? Have you ever seen any? Many of them? These images exist, but they often remain hidden in drawers or imaginations, because eroticism is mainly associated with femininity.
With this in mind, the Lusted Men collective has launched a
collection of erotic photographs of men or men identifying themselves as such, open to all, professionals and amateurs alike. Ranging from studio nudes to the spontaneity of post-coital selfies, this photo book, brings together some 700 photographs from all over the world that enrich the field of male representations, constituting a new visual archive of contemporary male eroticism.
This book accompanies the exhibition devoted to Tom Wesselmann at the Fondation Louis Vuitton. It explores all Tom Wesselmann’s creative periods and traces the broad outlines of

Reconstructing Notre-Dame
The Guardians of Gesture
Since the fire that ravaged Notre-Dame de Paris in 2019, hundreds of craftsmen from all over Europe have been bringing the cathedral back to life: masons, carpenters, roofers, stonemasons, blacksmiths, coppersmiths, stone and wood sculptors, master glassmakers, locksmiths, gilders, paint and tapestry restorers, stained glass artists and organ builders.
The painter Laurence Bost is the only accredited artist who could enter Notre-Dame to paint these craftsmen at work. Through forty luminous canvases, she captures the mastery and virtuosity of the age-old gestures of which they are the guardians.
An exhibition at the Musée de la Légion d’Honneur will present these 40 paintings from December 11, 2024 to March 2, 2025.
Astrology Mirror by Christian Lacroix
Discover Max Jacob and Claude Valence’s Astrology Mirror reinterpreted by Christian Lacroix’s twinkly drawings.
A poet, novelist, painter, and a major figure in the world of culture in the first part of the 20th century, Max Jacob was also passionate about astrology. His meeting with astrologer Claude Valence (real name Conrad Moricand) produced a text that was published in 1949 after the poet’s death: Astrology Mirror
While Claude Valence deals purely with astrology, Max Jacob paints portraits of women of each star sign, providing a real literary pleasure to the reading of this manual.
Passionate about astrology and Max Jacob’s writings, the great designer Christian Lacroix gives a new life to the work that has been out of print for decades.
Inspired by the style of the 1930s and 1940s, Christian Lacroix draws both the bestiary of the zodiac and the women of each star sign Max Jacob described. He takes readers on a journey of discovery into the esoteric world of Jacob and Valence’s astrology.
A Feast of Dance Jean-Christophe Maillot
«Without others, I don’t exist... or so little. Unlike a painter or a writer, who translate their thoughts with a brushstroke or a pen, I, as a choreographer, must express myself through the body and mind of the dancer.»
After a career spanning forty years, thirty of which he spent at the helm of The Monte-Carlo Ballet, Jean-Christophe Maillot shares his career with sensitivity in a lavishly illustrated book, as singular and generous as his repertoire.
The choreographer didn’t come alone to tell his story: more than fifty dancers, choreographers, visual artists, writers, conductors, composers and actors complete his portrait to offer us this Feast of Dance.
“Without others, I don’t exist or barely. As opposed to a painter or a writer, who can capture their thoughts with brush or pen, for me, as a choreographer, I can only express myself through the bodies and spirits of dancers.”
Facing the Walls
Portraiture Through Urban Art
Holding up a mirror to society, the art of portraiture has developed its own codes and fashions over the centuries. Considered as a genre in its own right, it has been profoundly challenged by photography. Adulated and then abandoned, it is in the street that portraiture is regaining its credentials, thanks to urban art.
Richly illustrated, this book presents a vast selection of emblematic portraits from the history of art (paintings and photographs) and shows how urban artists from all over the world - a hundred of them, including Ernest Pignon-Ernest, JR, Swoon, C215, Levalet, D*Face, Faith XLVII... - have
tackled the questions that have (de)constructed the portrait right up to the present day.
In keeping with A Street History of Art (2021), this book is an illuminating look at the art of portraiture through the centuries, right up to today’s work by the world’s leading urban artists.
Stickers
At the crossroad of street art and pop culture
Take a close look at gutters, electrical cabinets, urban nooks and crannies, bar toilets... You are bound to see an accumulation of stickers. Ubiquitous in the city, these stickers are at once tools of political propaganda, guerrilla marketing and artistic expression.
The authors traces here the history of this unusual piece of paper, from its beginnings as a price tag to its explosion into visual and popular culture as symbols of rebellion (unions, political parties), promotion (surfwear and skatewear brands, local artisans), and creativity.
Shapes, colors, messages, locations: for each use, Stickers
deciphers the graphic codes of these objects that enthrall thousands of collectors around the world.
Finally, a focus on street artists who use stickers either as an exclusive medium of expression or as a means of territorial invasion.
8 original sticker sheets to start your own artistic invasion!
Architecture & design
Dominique Perrault
In this complete monography, discover the work of Dominique Perrault, an architect and urban planner who worked with iconic projects all over the world. He marked world architecture with major projects such as the Olympic velodrome in Berlin, the Ewha Women’s University in Seoul and more recently the Olympic Village in Paris.
Architecture and its representations abound in a work whose generous iconography can be read like a thick literary novel. The foreword discusses a thought process and an architecture that makes no secret of its attraction to contemporary art. Through fictions, we take as many side steps that lead to four book-chapters in the work that, like reasoned concepts, establish attitudes and their consequences in architecture: the notions of “soils”, “instruments”, “geography”, and “roofs”.
In this constellation of projects, from 2008 to 2028, readers will be able to lose themselves with delight and build their own imaginary city, made up of both built and unbuilt architecture.
A glossary, a small catalogue raisonné, concludes the multigraphy so that nothing is forgotten.
Make Do
New Architectural Practices
The accelerating impact of the climate crisis is forcing us to limit new construction.
« Demolish no longertransform » : this imperative establishes rehabilitation as a major mode of housing production. But how do we deal with buildings deemed obsolete and situations hopeless?
On the face of it, there’s no reason to set up a vacation home in a bunker or develop a prototype for self-contained housing from a vacant house in a deserted suburb...
And yet, in this book, you will discover 15 international projects, such as a library set up in a Chinese natural quarry, a disused carpentry workshop transformed into a house and summer garden, and even a shared winter garden and artist’s residence installed in two adjoining old Victorian houses...
A lesson in architectural optimism!

The Picture of Dorian Gray
Illustrated by Benjamin Lacombe
The talented Benjamin Lacombe illustrates Oscar Wilde’s masterpiece, with an afterword written by Merlin Holland, the writer’s only grandson.
This illustrated edition tells the story of the young Dorian Gray, ready to offer his soul so that his portrait may age in his place, without imagining the consequences...
Benjamin Lacombe highlights themes such as Art, youth, morality and hedonism, and focuses on the figure of Dorian
Gray, the embodiment of beauty, sowing death and desolation, which he illustrates through a process that strips away the layers of superficiality to reveal the heart of monstrosity.
A literary gem that invites us to reflect on the meaning of our lives.
Benjamin Lacombe is an author and illustrator born in Paris in 1982, and one of the leading member of new French illustration. He has published over fifty books, selling over 3 million copies worldwide.
Benjamin Lacombe’s books have been translated in 30 languages.
The Witches of Venice
Illustrated by Marco Mazzoni
The talented Marco Mazzoni illustrates a never seen before text by Sébastien Perez.
An anticipation novel, a graphical and philosophical exploration of a post-apolyptic society, the readers dive into the life of 16-year-old Simone in 2045, in an Italy undergoing reconstruction and prey to segregation after a terrible pandemic.
A reflection on human folly and the damaging effects of a deadly patriarchy that spans the
ages, the story is accompanied by a facsimile of a 15th-century Venetian witch’s notebook, which may well be responsible for the decline of today’s world.
This adventure story alternates graphic genres (sketches, illustrations, comics) and narrative strata to offer a novel reading experience.
Marco Mazzoni works exclusively with colored pencils, creating deep, dark visuals inspired by nature and based on Italian folklore.
Sébastien Perez discovered a passion for writing at an early age. His collaborations with Benjamin Lacombe gave rise to tales that blend fantasy and humor.
Run Off
A touching friendship between an old man and a mysterious young girl
An old man living alone near the coast finds a young girl unconscious near a tunnel and brings her home to nurse her back to health. They form a quiet, unspoken bond until one evening when she vanishes, compelling the man to search for her. In his attempt to find help after she falls into a catatonic state, he falls off a cliff and seems to die.
The young girl, mysteriously connected to ethereal women in white dresses, finds him, and his body is brought back to the tunnel, where he is miraculously
resurrected. After a series of unsettling events, the man is eventually institutionalized, but remains haunted by the girl’s disappearance, consumed by his desperate need to find her.
This silent narrative, captured in a black-and-white Indian ink graphic novel is punctuated by large double-page spreads of oil paintings that precede a text evoking happy moments in the character’s life. Like fleeting bubbles of happiness that shaped the man he has become.

Love, Poetry
Kiki
Smith / Paul Eluard
American artist Kiki Smith takes up the challenge of the Grande Blanche illustrée collection, a space where artists are given carte blanche to confront some of literature’s greatest authors.
Kiki Smith is known since the 1980s for her multidisciplinary work, she boldly and sensitively explores the theme of the fragile, intimate body, female sexuality and our relationship with death and beauty. Since the 2000s, the artist has been projecting herself into the world of the living, the plant world.
For this collection, Kiki Smith has chosen to confront Paul Éluard’s L’Amour, la poésie . Published in 1929, after a last winter spent with his wife Gala,
who was to leave him shortly afterwards for Salvador Dali, this «book without end» traces the adventure of a desperate man torn between love and poetry, between the real and the imaginary, a man to whom poetry, along with love, gives back the taste and passion of life.
Interventions by Kiki Smith punctuate these poems in a universe where body, nature and cosmos meet the spirit of surrealism.
Folly within Follies
This original book is composed of 18 diptychs associating a character with an architecture linked with their own whimsical thoughts
A man haunted by a succubus, another with a broken heart in a cage because he does not want to lose the rest of his organs… They all stem from the imagination of Martin Jarrie, a gifted and renowned illustrator.
This chimeric universe inspired the writer Hervé Le Tellier, who gathered these characters together in a psychiatric facility.
By playing along with the illustrator’s fantasy, he thus offers the readers a gallery of unexpected and one-of-a-kind literary portraits.
Martin Jarrie won two special mentions at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in 2010 and in 2012. Hervé Le Tellier won the Prix Goncourt for The Anomaly in 2020, this novel is now translated in more than 25 languages.

Cinema Villains
Cinema has always drawn on our most terrible fears to create its stories of anti-heroes, the worst villains, the bad guys of the seventh art, the craziest and the most dangerous, those who have marked us for life, and whom we love to hate.
To create a villain is to draw on a repertoire of easily identifiable stereotypes. For example, there are the ugly ones, the easiest to notice, from Voldemort to Cinderella’s Anastasia and Javotte, but also – more deceptive – the beautiful ones: Catwoman or Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct.
In this richly illustrated book, Julien Magalhaes offers an inventory of the types of fictional villains that have marked
contemporary pop culture, and hijacks their clichés with his humorous and ironic pen.
Your favourite villains deciphered : The Devil Wears Prada’s Miranda Priestly, Patrick Bateman in American Psycho , Buffalo Bill from The Silence of the Lambs, The Joker, Vladimir Harkonenin in Dune ... and many more!

• The itineraries
Each itinerary starts with an “itinerary-map”, then a step-by-step visit of streets, lanes, even riverbanks, all with the most interesting houses, castles, churches and other sites along the way. The traveller is invited to follow well-worn paths but also to wander off the beaten track, to satisfy her curiosity according to her particular interest and the time available.

• Map of the itineraries.

Heraldic Figures
Born on the battlefields of the 12th century, the art of the coat of arms had as its primary function the identification of knights rendered unrecognizable by their helmets and armor. The widespread idea that coats of arms were the monopoly of the nobility was born from this day.
However, from the 13th century onwards, anyone could wear a coat of arms, whether noble or commoner, as long as the code of blazon was respected. A functional code, also born of the need to identify the bearer of the coat of arms from afar: bright colors, meaningful symbols, strong signage.
Michel Pastoureau, a historian of emblems and colors, shows us how their use has spread universally over time, to the point of permeating road signs, flags, logos and all the major codes of contemporary society.
Découvertes Octavius
An exhibition in book form
Thanks to a very original format, small books grow large - but the price remains low. Books that fit in anyone’s pocket, and are afforded by everyone’s wallet. Découvertes Octavius is made of 8, 10 or 12page units that unfold to reveal large illustrations. It is a brilliant concept that incorporates the practical aspect of art magazines (focusing on specific subjects) and the quality of a traditional art book, combined with a bold foldout format and lively texts aimed at a large audience.
This concept allows the authors to explore both texts and illustrations in a dynamic and revolutionary layout that gives different levels of interpretation and offers new reading possibilities. Each book is illustrated by magnificent reproductions
of masterpieces, pictures and documents in the different foldouts, thus offering new ways of discovering art and establishing links between texts and images.
The texts are short (2,000 to 5,000 words) but not simplified: subjects such as these need concise, highquality texts.

Tarsila do Amaral
A central figure in the artistic revival of the early 20th century, Tarsila do Amaral (1886-1973) is one of Brazil’s best-known and beloved artist. As early as the 1920s, she created an original body of work, blending indigenous and modern imagery, giving life to a repertoire of images that have marked Brazil’s visual universe to this day.
Moving between São Paulo and Paris, Tarsila do Amaral is a key link between the avant-gardes of two vibrant cultural capitals: she played an active role in exchanges between Europe and Brazil.
At the crossroads of two cultures and two continents, whose identities are defined one against the other, her work also delves into social and racial issues, an internalized indigenous
imaginary, dreamed of, even idealized, by an aristocratic, cultured and cosmopolitan white woman.
Tarsila do Amaral’s paintings invite us to rethink the divides between tradition and avantgarde, centre and periphery, scholarly and popular cultures, while at the same time questioning extremely topical notions.
Gustave Caillebotte Painting men
Impressionist painter Gustave Caillebotte (1848-1894) had predilection for male figures and portraits, which dominate his work. This book provides a brilliant analysis of this particular aspect of his work, between realism and artistic innovation.
As much as his daring framing and perspective effects, the great modernity of the artist’s masterpieces lies in his original way of depicting his contemporaries. Responding to a «realist» ambition, he introduced new figures into painting, such as the urban worker, the city dweller on the balcony, the sportsman or the naked man in his bathroom.
This vision was also deeply personal and autobiographical, as Caillebotte only took his
subjects from his closest environment, posing his brothers, his friends, the workers who worked for his family or the middle-class persons he met in the streets around his home.
Against the backdrop of the triumph of military virility, bourgeois patriarchy and republican fraternity, these images question gender norms and social categories, and testify to the artist’s questioning of his own male identity.
