D.U.C.K. stands for Dedicated to Uncle Carl from Keno. Because Disney didn’t allow cartoonists to sign their work, Don began to hide the abbreviation in his covers and splash panels. “I still get chills,” he says unexpectedly, and allows his gaze to wander dreamily over the originals, which presumably bring up a lot of memories for him. Who could blame him? „Irgendwo muss es stehen. D.U.C.K. – Das macht Spaß.“ Beim nächsten Bild ist er wieder schneller als ich und freut sich wie ein kleines Kind, wenn er seine geheime Widmung entdeckt. D.U.C.K. steht für Dedicated to Uncle Carl from Keno. Also: Onkel Carl (Barks) gewidmet von Keno (Don Rosa). Weil Disney es Zeichnern nicht erlaubte ihre Werke zu signieren, fing Don an, dieses Kürzel in den Covers und Geschichten zu verstecken. „Ich bekomme immer noch Gänsehaut (I still get chills)“, sagt er unvermittelt und lässt seinen Blick verträumt über die Originale schweifen, während vermutlich viele Erinnerungen in ihm hochkommen. Like with the periodic table of elements, there is an exact order that Don alone seems aware of. Es ist seine eigene Ästhetik, seine Genauigkeit, die selbst beim Sortieren der Chilis nach außen drängt. Sorgfältig positioniert er die kleinen Früchte, die Namensschilder werden elegant beschriftet. Wie beim Periodensystem der Elemente gibt es eine genaue Ordnung, die nur Don allein zu kennen scheint.
