ROBINSON CRUSOE

TGULLIVER'S TRAVELS

Jonathan Swift II

he protagonist of this tale arrives in a most peculiar land! Instead of being frightened, he’s enchanted: he stays there for months, learning the language, customs, and traditions of the people who host him. Kindhearted and naïve, he makes a few blunders during his stay. Want to know what they are?

This story takes place in the forests of North America— wild and inhabited by all kinds of animals, from the harmless to the fierce. Among them, the majestic wolf stands out as one of the most captivating. And it’s a wolf—or rather, the son of a wolf and a dog—who takes center stage in this tale. His adventures in the wild grow more challenging when he encounters humans. Read on to discover what happens!

Out of nowhere, the she-wolf appeared, fangs flashing. She tore the predator away, grabbing her pup gently by the scruff and retreating to their den. That night, the cub lay against her chest, eyes wide— not with fear, but wonder.

From then on, he began venturing out more often. With each hunt, each lesson, he learned the rhythms of the forest: when the deer grazed, when the wind changed direction, how to stalk silently. He was growing stronger. Wiser.

Then, everything changed. By a riverside clearing, he saw five strange beings standing tall, wrapped in cloth. They smelled unfamiliar, and their voices echoed oddly in the air. Paralyzed, the pup stared as one approached, kneeling and laughing at his white teeth. “Look at those fangs," the man said.

The she-wolf charged in, growling—but froze when another whispered, “Kiche.” She wagged her tail and whimpered softly. The pup watched in confusion. Who were these creatures? Why was his mother submissive?

The men took him. They named him White Fang and brought him to a tribal camp filled with noise, fire, and strange smells. Dogs barked, children shrieked, and White Fang curled against his mother for comfort. But peace was short-lived. Soon, Kiche was placed in a canoe and paddled away. Her cries echoed across the water—and White Fang’s heart broke.

Alone, he faced a harsh new world. A rival pup attacked him constantly, prompting White Fang to develop fierce reflexes. He didn’t seek fights, but he didn’t lose them. Days became months. He survived, but never belonged.

AROUND THE WORLD IN EIGHTY DAYS

There are people who, for a bet—but above all, to defend their convictions—would truly do anything! This is exactly what happens to the protagonist of this story, who, accompanied by his loyal butler, embarks on an adventure that takes him around the globe—at great speed! Unfortunately, unexpected obstacles are always lurking. Will Phileas Fogg win his bet?

The group boarded, but after about thirty hours at sea, the captain was locked in his cabin, and Fogg generously paid the crew to sail directly to England.

Near the end of the journey, however, the coal supply ran out, and the ship managed to dock in Ireland. As soon as they disembarked, they rushed onto a train bound for Dublin and then boarded another vessel to Liverpool.

The moment Fogg set foot on English soil, the detective arrested him, convinced that he was the Bank of England thief, and took him to prison. A few hours later, the frantic detective returned and released him. “Forgive me, sir—the real thief was caught three days ago! Quickly, to the train!"

Unfortunately, they had to wait to board a direct train to London, and when they arrived in the city, they were ten minutes late for the appointment at the Club. Fogg had lost the bet—and twenty thousand pounds!

Phileas, Passepartout, and Auda went to Fogg's home, deeply disappointed. But the next day, the French butler brought astonishing news: they had not arrived late, but rather a day early, having gained time by always traveling east.

Fogg immediately jumped into a carriage and, at the very last second, arrived at the Club—where his wager was declared victorious!

AROBINSON CRUSOE

terrible shipwreck forms the backdrop to this adventure. The young protagonist must survive on a deserted island, but he has no other human beings to help him! His willpower is truly incredible. Read in the following pages how he never gives up but strives to find ingenious ways to overcome every difficulty.

Over twenty years passed. Crusoe became highly skilled at sewing clothes from simple animal hides, fishing, and even raising and milking goats to make butter and milk. One night, he heard strange noises and rushed to the beach, where he saw members of a native population from that part of the continent arriving in canoes, carrying a couple of prisoners. Hiding in the forest, he noticed that one of the prisoners had escaped his captors. Robinson followed and helped him evade them.

The young man was deeply grateful and stayed on the island to live with him. Crusoe named him “Friday” and taught him to speak his language. The two became great friends, and months later, they were part of a dramatic rescue. A sailing ship had anchored off the island, and a small boat had reached the shore carrying several sailors and others who were bound—clearly prisoners.

Crusoe and Friday decided to rescue them, defeating their captors. The prisoners turned out to be the captain and first officer of the ship, whose crew had mutinied. Robinson devised a plan to lure the mutineers onto the beach and defeat them one by one. Only the innocent crew members returned to the ship with the captain, while the ringleaders were left behind on the island.

Grateful for Crusoe’s help, the captain offered him a place on his vessel. And so, after twenty-eight years on that deserted island, Robinson Crusoe—alongside Friday—finally returned to his homeland, England.

ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN

Mark Twain

The story you’re about to read stars a truly special boy: he lives in total freedom along the river, barefoot and dressed in rags—and he’s immensely happy! Whenever someone tries to force him into a cleaner, tidier life, he runs off down the river and dives into incredible adventures.

for me,” Huck thought. “Better to make him think I’m dead.” So the boy stole all the food from the cabin, pulled out a clump of his hair, and left it amidst the mess of a fake robbery. Then he slipped into a canoe he had hidden by the riverbank days earlier— telling his father he had lost it—and paddled away to the deserted Jackson’s Island.

Once he reached the shore, Huck grabbed his supplies and headed into the island’s forest in search of the perfect spot to live freely, all by himself.

But right among the trees, he spotted someone he knew. “Jim, is that you?” he cried. “What are you doing here?”

Sitting in a clearing was a man Huck knew well: for years he had been Miss Watson’s servant, and all the children in town were fond of him. “Huckleberry Finn, I ran away!” Jim said. “I overheard Miss Watson telling a friend she was going to sell me to Orleans. I didn’t think twice—I left.

And you, what about you?”

“My father was keeping me locked up, so I escaped and faked my death to be free! Why don’t we stay together?” And from that moment on, the two were inseparable.

After a few days on the abandoned island, Huck realized it wasn’t safe to stay there too long in case someone came looking for Jim. The two built a raft and set off down the river—they had decided to reach the state of Ohio, where Jim could build a new life as a free man.

The journey was long, and the two often had to stop to look for supplies. Along the way, they encountered two scoundrels and con men pretending to be actors from a traveling theater troupe. These rascals ended up capturing Jim and selling him to a family that lived on a large farm.
