ATLANTIC CITY BRIAN ROSE
INTRODUCTION BY PAUL GOLDBERGER
Last year, he sued to force the shuttered Trump Plaza to remove every reference to his name, a final pronouncement on his view of Atlantic City. The letters were removed, some carted off in a contractor’s pickup truck. Amy S Rosenberg Politico May 30, 2016

I have nothing to do with the Plaza Casino in Atlantic City. I have not been involved with Atlantic City for many years. Used to love A.C.! 10:43 PM - Jul 12, 2014

The closure of the sprawling Boardwalk casino, with its soaring domes, minarets and towers built to mimic the famed Indian historic site, cost nearly 3,000 workers their jobs, bringing the total jobs lost by Atlantic City casino closings to 11,000 since 2014. Atlantic City. Donald Trump’s failed casinos and the devastation connected to those failures. A state and city that sold its soul to criminal interests under the pretense of urban revitalization. A Disney theme park with street crime, the money laundering schemes of billionaires, and those abandoned to homelessness and unemployment.

In May, Trump told the New York Times about his 25 years in Atlantic City: ‘The money I took out of there was incredible’. It’s the only thing he has to say of my nowdestroyed hometown. He came, he took and he left. And I hate to break it to you, America — he’s not coming back for us. Arielle Brousse The Washington Post October 6, 2016

Going home to visit is a disorienting experience these days. It’s always been necessary to drive past rundown bungalows and housing projects to get to the boardwalk. There used to be a kind of promise that the casino industry would provide opportunities that would trickle down and reinvigorate those communities; they never did. Now you go past boarded-up single-family homes to arrive at once opulent, equally shuttered casino towers and a boardwalk as sparse and silent as the streets. Arielle Brousse Vox October 3, 2016

Trump Plaza and the three other casinos he once owned are now shuttered, but his presence hovers over everything here in Atlantic City. To such an extent, that one group wants to build a Trump museum. As an example of the possible impact of a museum, [Levi] Fox pointed to Sevnica, Slovenia, the birthplace of first-lady-to-be Melania Trump. Since the election, people have been flocking to the town to get a glimpse of where she grew up. Press of Atlantic City Nicholas Huba December 3, 2016

‘Trump Taj Mahal received many warnings about its deficiencies’, said FinCEN Director Jennifer Shaky Calvery. ‘Like all casinos in this country, Trump Taj Mahal has a duty to help protect our financial system from being exploited by criminals, terrorists, and other bad actors. Far from meeting these expectation, poor compliance practices, over many years, left the casino and our financial system unacceptably exposed.’ FinCEN Press Release (Financial Crimes Enforcement Network) March 6, 2015
