The AstroTwins Dear Reader, As astrologers, one of our jobs is to ask—and answer—the question “Why?” After all, we have a metaphysical magnifying glass, or maybe it’s a microscope, that allows us to translate the tableau that this cosmic lens reveals. At a time when nothing seems to make sense anymore, it’s easy to feel like the universe that once “had our backs” has now turned its back on us. Is this the end of civilization, the twilight hour of the human race?

It would be perfectly legitimate to ask such things. A simple scan of 2020’s headlines reveals a dismal year-in-review that would never earn a passing grade. Corruption, deception and disinformation ran rampant. Humanity couldn’t seem to catch a break, and neither could our planet. This new year couldn’t come fast enough. Luckily, the stars pattern themselves into a bigger story—a story that explains how, like Bridget Jones on steroids, we now find ourselves at “the edge of reason.” Sometimes, just knowing a little more of the “why” can reboot our engines and, frankly, get us through the hour. In this eighth edition of our annual horoscope guide, we’ll give it to you straight, but we’ll also serve up a substantial spoonful of hope. You won’t be sold false optimism, but you’ll hear a (hopefully) balanced view. We can’t erase the collective chaos that’s left us all scarred and sapped. But we can put it into context for you, giving you a reason to brush your hair or get out of bed, a concrete milestone to work toward, and a glimpse of the happiness that awaits every sign in 2021, even if it’s not at bucket-list peak level. Moving into the second year of the decade, many of us have lowered our expectations, resigning ourselves to “more of same.” But we invite you to join us in not allowing this self-protective buffer to become a self-fulfilling prophecy. As ever, we believe in the power of the human spirit and our ability to co-create destiny with the planets. In these pages, may you reclaim your magic and find a guiding light through these transitional times.

What’s in the Stars for All of Us?
A
s we examined the stars for 2021, looking in earnest for signs of stability, a story began to unfold. There’s no denying it: We are in the middle of a great historical change that we believe will truly start taking shape in 2022. In many ways, the cosmic lineup of both 2020 and 2021 are a prelude—a Star Wars prequel for some, a Hunger Games for others—designed to prepare us for shifts in world power, economic systems, weather patterns and the way we live. The prospect of change can seem upsetting and scary when it’s ahead of us. But what really drives our angst is the idea of navigating the unknown without a map. As astrologers, it’s our job to provide that galactic GPS. Here’s a simplified strategy: To navigate through 2021, you must keep your eye on both the here-and-now and the fast-approaching future. In other words, live in the moment and “one day at a time.” But simultaneously play the long game by saving money, being resourceful and investing in things that may not pay returns for five to ten years or longer. Build and plan…but also let go and be flexible. If 2020 taught us anything, it was that the best-laid plans must sometimes pivot on a moment’s notice.

2021 HIGHLIGHTS
Hey, we made it through 2020, didn’t we? The losses and challenges may have left us battle-weary, our “cars” in need of bodywork and repair. But here we are, with another year stretching in front of us—and the bewildering prospect of trying to plan in the face of massive global uncertainty. In 2021, both expansive Jupiter and structured Saturn will travel through Aquarius, the sign of society, technology and revolution. This is a huge change from their stalwart march through Capricorn in 2020, which emphasized themes of government (historic election much?), business and hierarchy. Now, our sights are set on innovation and massive changes that will reform the way society is organized, governed and serviced. Will all the technological advances set us free…or limit our freedom and privacy? Here are some things that will remain in a state of flux, if not continue to undergo seismic shifts, in 2021:
Our relationship to time will change. While Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn all circuited through Capricorn in close proximity for most of 2020, our sense of time warped, flattened or outright disintegrated. Before the discovery of Uranus in 1781, Saturn (aka Chronos the timelord) was the ruler of both Capricorn and Aquarius. This year, as Saturn darts into three shape-shifting squares (90-degree angles) with disruptor Uranus, we can expect to dance the Time Warp again, a la the song from oh-so-Aquarian cult musical, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. When Jupiter dips into Pisces, which is associated with non-linear time, from May 13 to July 28, things could get even more “quantum.” Interestingly, the European Union has voted to end Daylight Savings Time in March 2021.
Gathering and communing remain socially distanced. We got a sneak preview of “social distancing” when restrictive Saturn made a short visit to Aquarius, the zodiac sign that rules group gatherings, from March 21 to July 1, 2020. Now, Saturn is hunkered down in Aquarius until March 2023 for a celestial winter. That doesn’t necessarily mean that we’ll have to cancel every wedding, industry conference or music festival until then. But we can certainly expect to see The AstroTwins’ 2021 Horoscope

modified versions of these assemblages, perhaps with some technological help from pioneering Aquarius.
Saturn-Uranus squares: Old-school meets new. Three times in 2021, stalwart Saturn and disruptive Uranus will get into cosmic clashes, locking into 90-degree angles (squares). Old-school Saturn is in innovative Aquarius, while scientific Uranus (the ruler of Aquarius) is hunkered in traditional Taurus. Talk about a double, or quadruple, paradox. Our digitized reality could drive what experts are calling the Fourth Industrial Revolution, transforming everything from money to manufacturing, banking to government.
“One ticket to...the supermarket? Since June 2020, eclipses have overturned our relationship to travel and community.” Revolutions, banned protests and government suppression. In the United States, dealing with voter suppression, police-protestor clashes and the 2020 election’s COVID-spreading campaign trail was bad enough. Worldwide, governments helmed by dictators were able to use unchecked means of controlling their populations and maintaining their ironclad grip on power. From Internet blackouts to protest clashes and shutdowns, standing up for individual rights has grown exponentially complicated. During the COVID crisis, some countries even issued false reports about their population’s health and economic progress, arresting and torturing activist leaders who attempted to deliver resources to their stricken citizens. With authoritarian Saturn and freedom-seeking Jupiter both in Aquarius, the sign of society and human rights, we can expect much more of this. We’ve written extensively about these transits, both past and future, in the pages ahead.

ECLIPSES IN 2021
At solar and lunar eclipses, expect the unexpected.
E
clipses happen four to six times a year, bringing sudden changes and turning points to our lives. If you’ve been stuck in indecision about an issue, an eclipse forces you to act. Unexpected circumstances can arise and demand a radical change of plans.
Truths and secrets explode into the open. Things that aren’t “meant to be” are swept away without notice. Shocking as their delivery can be, eclipses help open up space for the new. The ancients used to hide from eclipses and viewed them as omens or bearers of disruptive change. And who could blame them? They planted, hunted, fished and moved by the cycles of nature and the stars. While the modern astrological approach is not fear-based, we must still respect the eclipses’ power.
Solar vs. Lunar Eclipses There are two types of eclipses—solar and lunar. Lunar eclipses fall at full moons. The earth passes directly between the Sun and the moon, cutting off their communication and casting a shadow on the earth, which often appears in dramatic red and brown shades. A solar eclipse takes place when the new moon passes between the Sun and the earth, shadowing the Sun. The effect is like a spiritual power outage—a solar eclipse either makes you feel wildly off-center, or your mind becomes crystal-clear.

2021 HIGHLIGHTS
The effects of an eclipse can usually be felt for three to five days before and after the event (some astrologers say eclipses can announce themselves a month before or after, too). Expect the unexpected, and wait for the dust to settle before you act on any eclipse-fueled impulses.
Eclipse Calendar for 2021 May 26: Sagittarius (Total Lunar Eclipse - 7:13am) June 10: Gemini (Annular Solar Eclipse - 6:52am) November 19: Taurus (Partial Lunar Eclipse - 3:57pm) December 4: Sagittarius (Total Solar Eclipse - 2:42am)
In 2021, there will be four eclipses. We’ll complete a series on the communicative Gemini/Sagittarius axis that began on June 5, 2020. Themes of travel, community, neighborhoods, schools and socializing have been shaken and stirred since these eclipses arrived shortly after the COVID-19 global pandemic caused countries to close their borders and governments to mandate lockdowns and shelter-in-place orders. In 2021, these lunar events will bring more of Gemini’s “hybrid” style to the way we commune and commute, learn and earn. Economic reform is afoot later in the year, when November sparks up a new Taurus/Scorpio eclipse series, spanning until October 2023. Show me the...crypto? The birth of a new financial system could appear, along with new ways of balancing our material and spiritual realities. u The AstroTwins’ 2021 Horoscope

RETROGRADES IN 2021 When planets reverse their course, delays and disruptions can happen.
Y
ou’ve heard the hype about retrogrades—but what are they, really? When a planet passes the Earth in its journey around the Sun, it’s said to be going retrograde. From our vantage point on Earth, it is almost as if the planet is moving in reverse. This is an illusion, but it’s a bit like two trains passing at different speeds—one appears to be going backward. When a planet goes retrograde (for a few weeks, or sometimes even months), everything that falls under its jurisdiction can go a bit haywire. Survival tip: Think of the prefix “re-” and review, reunite, reconnect, research. Retrogrades aren’t the best times to begin something new, but they can be stellar phases for tying up loose ends or giving a stalled mission a second chance. u

JUPITER IN AQUARIUS & PISCES The celestial supersizer does an unusual dance in 2021 as it weaves between Aquarius and Pisces all year. Jupiter in Aquarius: December 19, 2020–May 13, 2021 Jupiter in Pisces: May 13–July 28, 2021 Jupiter in Aquarius: July 28–December 28, 2021

eep hope alive! While sober Saturn weighs anchor in Aquarius, other planetary forces draw our energy up to the surface. Buoyant, optimistic Jupiter spends most of 2021 in Aquarius, co-piloting alongside Saturn through the sign of wishes and the future. Amidst legitimate concerns about “what’s next for humanity,” Jupiter in Aquarius throws open the shades, directing our attention to the bright side of things. Jupiter’s trajectory is an unusual one in 2021. Generally, the heavenly titan orbits through a single zodiac sign for a steady 12-to-13-month circuit. This year, however, Jupiter weaves in and out of innovative, scientific Aquarius and enchanting, esoteric Pisces. Jupiter already landed in the Water Bearer’s realm on December 19, 2020, so it starts 2021 in this wishful sign. From May 13 to July 28, Jupiter spills out of the Water Bearer’s jug and takes a splash through the Fish’s seas.

SCORPIO 2021
How are things under your roof, Scorpio? As serious Saturn adds heft to your domestic plans, you may be ready to plant deeper roots, perhaps buying (or selling) property, renovating to create more privacy, or moving to a city with a more amenable cost of living. Creating a sacred oasis is a Scorpio talent, no matter how much square footage you have to work with. With your eye for beauty and attunement to mood and atmosphere, you literally feel “off” when color, light and energy are imbalanced in a space. To function in the outside world, you need a well-appointed home—the tidier, the better. That said, shelter requirements may fluctuate over the next two years, as you evolve under karmic Saturn’s adulting influence. You may come to the bittersweet conclusion that you’ve outgrown your digs, or conversely, feel inspired to live a more minimalist lifestyle under Saturn’s austerity plan. No need to rush any such process, though. As one of the zodiac’s four “fixed” signs, embracing change isn’t exactly in your DNA. Take a slow, methodical approach, but not so plodding that you fail to gain traction. Fortunately, risktaker Jupiter will be co-piloting through Aquarius for much of 2021, which will help you hit the accelerator when cautious Saturn flashes you enough green lights to go! (More on that later in this chapter.) Scorpios in relationships may opt to cohabitate. Is it time to take the grown-up plunge and start looking for your first love nest? Charged up as you may be with new relationship energy, Saturn warns us that only fools rush in. Major decisions should be rooted in both practicality and romance. Talk through every possible scenario, from how you’ll divide up housing costs to the functionality of every room. That meditation cave you’re envisioning might clash with your partner’s desire for a home office—something to consider before you settle on a floor plan. For other Scorpios, restrictive Saturn may shift your lifestyle, limiting the time you spend together. Maybe one of you has to relocate temporarily for work or go help an ailing relative on a rotating schedule. There will be details to work out, so be patient! Saturn briefly visited Aquarius last year—from March 21 to July 1, 2020— just days after sheltering in place was mandated in major cities around the globe. Quarantine was particularly heavy for many Scorpios, as this disruptive

cycle forced you to reexamine your entire lifestyle. While privacy is essential to your inner serenity, you love sharing energy with good friends, usually over craft cocktails or artisanal coffee. Without your RDA of people-watching and
“What do you want your inner circle to look like in 2021...and beyond?” shameless flirting, your mood may have tanked. The silver lining? Saturn’s first lonely pass through Aquarius renewed your appreciation for the power of human connection. The next two years are sure to open your heart even wider. Let’s get real: Most people aren’t your cup of oolong, Scorpio. With your psychic sensitivity, you can be picky about whom you let into your field. But those who pass the litmus test are rewarded with legendary love and loyalty. Which begs the question: What do you want your inner circle to look like in 2021…and beyond? Your vision could inform everything from your extracurricular plans to your home zip code in the next phase of life. Saturn plays the long game, so think ahead. For example, if you’re a culture vulture who intends have children within the next few years, you may sacrifice downtown proximity in exchange for more square footage or a place with a yard. You could opt to stay put in tight living quarters while you save up for moving costs or consider some other practical reasons (e.g., you can walk to work or stay in a particular school district). Since Saturn rules structure, you might benefit from building storage systems or working with a professional organizer. We’re not saying new shelves will change your life…but we’re not saying they won’t, either! This isn’t going to be the easiest Saturn phase in the world, Scorpio. While in Aquarius, Saturn forms a challenging 90-degree angle (called a “square”) to your Sun. Squares force us to stop procrastinating and go face the music. If your foundation has been shaky for a while, the coming two-plus years help you strengthen it. Learning to nurture yourself is part of the plan. Regimented Saturn wants you to schedule self-care, not just talk about it theoretically. Eat

meals at regular intervals, go to sleep at the same time every night (yes, we said night, O’ Nocturnal One), and incorporate fitness into your daily routine. The fourth house rules women and female-identified folks. In 2021, you could align with a powerful group of ladies or become involved in an organization that forwards women’s rights. A relationship with a female colleague or mentor could evolve into a serious business partnership, or perhaps you’ll benefit from the wisdom of an older woman. On the flip side, you may find yourself stepping into this role, grooming a younger upstart or playing mentor-slash-momager to a colleague. An aging parent or relative may require more support from you this year which, in turn, could lead to you taking on a more grown-up role in your family structure. Got mother issues? Maturity-planet Saturn in your maternal fourth house might spark a possible rift with your mom or child(ren). If you’ve been too close for comfort, weighty Saturn hands you the psychic scissors and commands you to cut the cord. Space and autonomy can strengthen your bond—even if there’s grief involved with letting go. Cautious Saturn may delay your efforts to start or expand a family, or seriously change your lifestyle to accommodate children. Scorpio parents might struggle with a child going through a tough cycle (oh, those tricky preteen years) or feel the pangs of empty nest syndrome. During this stoic Saturn cycle, you may not have the usual warmth and closeness with your kin. It’s a time when you need to “do the right thing, not the easy thing.” Exert loving but firm boundaries, Scorpio. And hey, that’s a sound strategy for dealing with everyone in your life now. Saturn in your sensitive fourth house teaches you to lead with the right balance of head and heart. You may weather some tough lessons about people who prey on your (secretly) soft side or charm you into codependent enabling. This year, especially while Saturn is retrograde from May 23 to October 10, you may have to revamp (or even terminate) relationships that are draining and one-sided. Let others take responsibility for their grown-up choices, and you do the same. That said, you don’t have to be a one-Scorpio show. Saturn can help you build a solid, nurturing support system—whether it’s a friend circle, a professional mastermind group or your own family. In 2021, you’ll perfect the balance between shared goals and self-reliance.
