The first half of 2015 has simply flown by and your team at Accor Vacation Club has been busy. A number of the team’s achievements and some exciting new programs and initiatives are featured in this edition of the magazine, which I really believe will further enhance your enjoyment of the Club.
Accor Vacation Club’s integration into the Accor Member Loyalty Program is one of our major wins this year. For full details around these new and exciting benefits please see the following page. This is a fantastic acknowledgment by Accor Hotels of the value of Accor Vacation Club Members!

We are continuing to progress with the Club’s refurbishment program. The Sebel Pinnacle Valley is in its final stages of a massive revamp of the resort. In addition to the refurbishment of the rooms and chalets, we have also reinvented the restaurant, bar and reception area. Initial feedback on the retro ski lodge design has been tremendously positive.
Refurbishment of Novotel Nusa Dua in Bali is also well underway, with the concept suite completed and now open for inspection. Again, I am delighted to report that the feedback from Members on-site has been wonderful. You’ll find photos of both refurbishments in this edition.
We have also recently commenced a full refurbishment of both the Coral Coast Resort Palm Cove, Accor Vacation Club Apartments and The Sebel Palm Cove Coral Coast at Palm Cove. I am also pleased to announce the arrival of our new General Manager at these properties, Jody Redman, to the Accor Vacation Club team.
Our Members’ traveling workshop program grows from strength to strength, reporting record attendance at each event. The team has already conducted workshops this year in Adelaide, Coffs Harbour and the Hunter Valley. We also held our first Member event at Pullman on the Park, Melbourne. In addition to the workshop component,
the event also saw over 260 Members and friends staying overnight at the hotel to enjoy the evening entertainment and live band. By all accounts, the event was a huge success, with many Members partying into the early hours.
Our second Member event of the year, at the lovely Novotel Brighton Beach in Sydney, sold out very fast. Watch out for more workshops and events still to come this year.
A big thank you to those Members who share their holiday experiences on social media, and I’m referring of course to TripAdvisor, Facebook (Accor Vacation Club now has its own page!), Instagram and Twitter. I really enjoy reading your stories and seeing the holiday photos that capture some of the amazing experiences your Membership creates. In this edition of the magazine we have launched a Member competition to encourage you to share those magical holiday moments.

Queenstown! our week in
DAY 2
DAY 1
Jet lagged but luckily the staff at St. Moritz were happy to assist with a slightly early check in. We caught up on a few hours of sleep then went for a walk downtown (just around the corner from the hotel). The Kiwis certainly know how to do tourism well! This place is nice and clean and caters for young families as well as Gen X/Y back packers and us middle aged types! Even little things like water coolers designed to re-fill water bottles. We had a nice “pub meal” at “Ivy and Lola’s”, overlooking the wharf area.
Traveller’s tip for the day: 1 scoop of ice cream from the parlour near the wharf is more than enough. 2 scoops was just plain greedy!
Day trip to Milford Sound via coach. The coach driver played a pre-recorded audio file which provided a great back ground to the history of the area and the scenery and wildlife. Incredible scenery both en-route and cruising around the Sound. The tunnel through the mountain would be a must see to anyone that appreciates incredible engineering feats.
DAY 3
We didn’t notice any food outlets there so we were glad that we had paid the extra $15 each for the lunch pack. Another couple and ourselves were separated from the rest of our coach group as we were booked on another boat which resulted in us being accidently left behind by the driver. The staff at Milford Sound were quick to rectify the situation and we were allocated to another coach to get back to Queenstown. Long day getting back around 7:30pm. We sampled the pizza at Lombardis. Excellent.
Traveller’s tip for the day: In hindsight, hiring a car and making our own way to Milford Sound may have been the better option – pro’s and con’s.
Did the cheap ($35ea.) cruise around Lake Wakatipu. Wayne, (the captain) was friendly, humorous and knowledgeable. Good value for money.
We then walked up the hill to the Kiwi Bird Park. The mobile audio system was excellent. We hadn’t seen anything like it previously. The family that established the park are very passionate about conservation.
Next to the Bird Park entrance is the Gondola that took us up to the Skyline restaurant where we celebrated our anniversary with a scrumptious buffet meal overlooking Queenstown and the lake.
Traveller’s tip for the day: Make sure you get to the Bird Park in time for the feeding (may be the only way you can see the nocturnal Kiwis) as well as the conservation show.
DAY 4
Decided to hire a car... and drove to Arrowtown, Wanaka and Cromwell. Again, like driving to Milford Sound, the scenery was incredible. Just be prepared for steep winding roads as you pass through various mountains. Went Kayaking on Lake Wanaka – should have dressed more appropriately for that experience.
Traveller’s tip for the day: If you do this trip, allow yourself more time to check out all the wineries before they close in the late afternoon.

DAY 5
Time to check out the adrenalin pumping activities – starting with the Jet Boat ride on the Stopover River. Then I did the canyon swing while Tina watched on in terror. The people that work at these places really make it a memorable experience. We did the mandatory Saturday night queue for a couple of FergBurgers! Definitely very yummy; but if we didn’t have vouchers to use up we would not have worried about waiting 30 minutes in the queue then another 20 minutes for the order to be ready.
Traveller’s tip for the day: If you are going to do more than one of the jet boats, canyon swing, bungy, rafting, etc… buy a combo ticket and save money.
DAY 6
Early start to get picked up for the white water rafting. A lot of preparation work getting geared up with untold layers of waterproof clothing, helmet and life jacket but all worked out in the end. Even the bus ride down into the canyon is an adventure in itself. All worth the effort as well as the chance to meet people from all corners of the world.
We spent Sunday night travelling on the classic TSS Earnslaw on Lake Wakatipu and had a scrumptious BBQ buffet at a Sheep station homestead (Walter Peak). After the meal we saw a sheep dog and shearing demonstration. To top the night off, on the homeward trip, song books were distributed for those who wanted to sit around the piano.
Traveller’s tip for the day: Do a weather forecast when you first get to Queenstown, then plan your activities based on that. Low cloud cover can affect how much of the scenery you see but recent rainfall means all the waterfalls are even more spectacular.
How to spend $2,700 without really trying (apart from airfares and accommodation): Milford Sound Coach & Boat Cruise
The cold front (from Antarctica) that had been forecast arrived with gusto as we were blanketed with snow. As we are from Western Australia, this was a unique experience for us and a pretty cool way to spend the last day of our holiday. We decided to have a 1 hour hot spa experience where you can remove part of the roof (like a retractable garage door) and gaze over the now snow covered mountains of Queenstown. Magic stuff!

This month I’m joined by my First Mate, Jackie and her run-down of all the fabulous speciality chef cuisine available on board out on the high seas!

things you never thought you would find on a cruise ship*
All waiting for you to discover! Boy was I surprised at some of the magical on-board fun, entertainment and features available for couples, solo travellers or the whole family! In the spirit of the pure joy of discovery - get aload of these cool surprises and check them out on your next holiday cruise!
• Out door large picture screen cinemas (“Movies Under The Stars” as coined by Princess). Enjoy this totally cool phenomenon of viewing popular Hollywood classics and blockbusters out under the open sky! With all the comforts - Popcorn! lounge chairs, blankets and even warm cookies and milk! Cosy yes. Great for family-time or me-time.
• Spa indulgence galore. Speaking of me-time, you can pamper yourself silly at sea. There are facials, body sculpting, lava rocks, massages, face-peels, aroma-therapies, steam baths, mud wraps and lettuce wraps (just kidding about the lettuce wraps, or am I?). They may cost a little extra, but so worth it!
• Waterslides that jut out over the ocean (don’t worry they jut right back in to “slide you off”). With names like the Green Thunder (Carnival - Oz), Norwegian’s “Free Fall” or MSC’s 390 foot “Vertigo” or Disney’s Aqua Coaster on Disney Cruise Lines. It’s time to get your swimmers on!
• The mysterious “The North Star”! Take yourself to new heights (over 300 feet) with the jewel-shaped capsule on the end of a crane-like arm suspending up to 13 people at one time up and out over the ship and sea. The glass-encased gondola similar to the size and look of the London Eye or Melbourne Eye gondola gives you breathtaking 360° birds-eye views of the ship, sea and even your destinations!
• Cooking Classes at sea by the worlds’ great chefs! Marco Pierre White, Atul Kochar, wine-guru Olly Smith have been seen onboard
teaching the art of cooking! Chef’s Tip – be sure and check out some of the local cultural cooking exposes aboard the European & Asian river cruise itineraries.
• Solo cabins – purposely-built for solo travellers are on offer with common areas including TV lounges and supper clubs to meet and mingle with other single travellers.

Classic elegance has arrived in the Victorian High Country in the form of the newly refurbished The Sebel Pinnacle Valley Resort.
The property recently underwent an extensive refurbishment campaign and the results are stunning. Not only did all 42 apartments and chalets undergo a complete makeover but the common areas including, restaurant, lobby and conference areas also saw an amazing transformation.
The revamped suites and chalets offer a new standard for alpine luxury. The one-bedroom suites or two bedroom chalets all with separate lounge, dining and kitchen facilities. A mix of warm timber floors and sumptuous carpets cover the floors while soft furnishings in silver, grey and red add an elegant warmth to the well-appointed space.
