RATL | 2021 ANNUAL REPORT

MEETING DEEP

NEEDS

Over half a million people experience homelessness in the U.S. each year. 30% of this number is made up of family households. Homelessness doesn’t take place in a vacuum. There are a variety of economic and social structures that prevent people from finding and retaining stable housing. At RATL, we know systemic change is vast and complex. But, we also know some of the biggest needs among the homeless community are stable relationships and social support. We believe one of the best ways we can serve families experiencing homelessness is simply by being with them, loving them, and serving them beyond the physical. RATL exists to meet both physical and emotional needs by providing resources and offering deep and lasting relationships with moms, dads, and kids who are in crisis. We believe that care and support given now will help to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty later by empowering and equipping the next generation.

We partner with Atlanta Public Schools and nonprofit agencies to provide elementary students in under-resourced communities with a high-quality after school experience. RATL provides a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for students to learn and grow. Students receive homework assistance, Biblical programming, character development, and recreational time helping them learn, play, and grow outside the classroom.

drawchange RATL partners with drawchange to offer our After School children weekly art classes. Drawchange uses research based principles to integrate art therapy into children’s general curriculum. Their vision is to increase self-esteem and critical thinking skills to help them better cope with daily stresses. Our RATL kids love exploring and creating art with drawchange!

Fly on a Wall Our RATL students love to move! Fly on a Wall dance company offers weekly dance classes to RATL students, allowing them to express themselves through rhythm and movement. We love seeing students express themselves artistically through dance.

Children’s Outreach Center

North Avenue Presbyterian Church RATL continues to grow its reach, and with that growth comes the natural need for more square footage! North Avenue Presbyterian Church has been faithful to provide us with the space we need to love and serve families well.

Thanks to the Children’s Outreach Center, our students never have to wonder if there will be food for dinner. Children’s Outreach Center partners with RATL to provide a hot meal for students every night at no cost to the families or to RATL.

MEET KAMRI! Kamri is a student in our After School Program. Her favorite part about coming to RATL is playing with her friends and leaders. “Everyone is always so nice to me! I love coming to After School and learning about Jesus!” Kamri is always so full of joy and light. She is always the first one to learn the memory verse of the week! Her favorite verse to say is “The joy of the Lord is our strength!” Nehemiah 8:10

RATL is such a loving and safe space. It is so amazing to see all that God is doing in the lives of these children, as well as mine. Being with the kids is the highlight of my week and is something I always look forward to! Working at RATL has impacted my life for the better, and I am blessed to be a part of the RATL Family! Erin, RATL Intern

INTERNSHIPS We believe that active relationship-building is what Christ calls us to. This type of care requires hands to serve, ears to listen, and mouths to speak truth and love. That’s why our interns are a crucial part of the mission at RATL! Our interns serve by leading daily programming and building relationships with RATL students and their mothers. RATL interns work most directly with RATL students grades PreK-5th grade by providing a safe, fun, and nurturing environment in After School and Summer Camp Programs, Monday through Friday.

RATL hires spring, summer, and fall interns!

Bible study has impacted my life unexpectedly. I thought it was going to be your traditional Bible study, but, boy, was I wrong! Miss Courtlandt can start on one topic, but the Lord can have her shift and go in a different direction. She ministers to us about things that we may be going through, which

she may not know, but the Lord speaks through her. I came in very low in my spirit and doubtful about my life and current situation, but bit by bit my spirit has been lifted higher thanks to the Lord leading me to be a part of the Bible study while I’m at Solomon’s Temple. I am no longer doubtful but am more certain about things, and the Lord has been opening up doors for me. I am so thankful for this Bible study and Miss Courtlandt, because I know it is no one but God working through her. - Anjewel Jackson

WOMEN’S PROGRAMS We believe holistic restoration occurs when both physical and spiritual needs are nurtured. Our women’s programs foster an environment where women and mothers develop their understanding of who God is and what His Word says. Our director of women’s programs leads a weekly Bible study, and the women we serve have full access to one-onone Biblical mentorship and life-coaching throughout the week.

RATL’s Summer Camp provides kiddos with a fun, safe environment for summer, and lasts the duration of summer according to the Atlanta Public Schools calendar. RATL programming focuses on instilling hope in each kiddo that attends camp. We also provide academic support, recreational games, BIble lessons, and character and team building, all while providing free childcare for working mothers transitioning out of homelessness.

L’ P R E E ’ S STORY When L’pree’s family was walking through homelessness, RATL provided a safe space for her to build strong relationships and make positive memories. L’pree’s mom was able to focus on her younger two children while L’pree attended summer camp with peers her age and experienced plenty of fun and engaging activities.
