I am a student at All Saints RC School. I love Art. In my time as a pupil I have enjoyed art in class and have been saddened to see it shrink as a school activity. My younger friends experience art less than I ever did due to continuing curriculum pressures. My parents tell me that the ‘Good Old Days’ were in fact the good old days - one full day a week was devoted to drawing and creating. That’s unimaginable now.
I work as an art advocate for Registered Charity New Visuality. When City of York Council’s Acomb ward provided us with funding to begin organising a series of artistic outreach with children of the area I was delighted. We had been to Lidgett Methodist Church many times before and we have always been provided with excellent space, a warm welcome, and a chance to see up close how a proper community space works: no judgement, friendly conversations, and, in this case, lots of paper aeroplanes (thanks Peter!).
