It Begins: Bringing Generations Together Through Creativity
New Visuality launched It Begins, an innovative intergenerational project designed to celebrate the stories, talents, and experiences found within York's community centres. The initiative brought together elderly residents and teenage advocates through a programme of fortnightly activities, creating opportunities for meaningful conversations and shared creative experiences. Through a series of workshops, participants explored local memories, future aspirations, and the everyday activities that helped strengthen community life.
Over the course of the project, participants took part in a variety of inclusive activities chosen by the groups themselves. From playing bocce and sewing to designing greetings cards and sharing refreshments, each session encouraged collaboration and connection. The project placed participants at the centre of decision-making, with activities co-led by those taking part and designed to be accessible to people of different ages
