Good vibes
Kevin (Dog Walker): “I love bringing my dogs Oscar and Dexter to the park for a walk. Dexter will sit and watch people playing tennis. He loves it and the players don’t seem to mind either!” Matty: “I love litter picking, wood chipping and digging. I also LOVE SUNSHINE!”
Noah: “I like to do litter picking and seeing it clean and tidy. I like seeing my friends and getting exercise!” “It’s good fun, I like to be here with my friends. I look forward to it every week.”

Hull Road Ward
HEDGING AND TIDYING AT HULL ROAD I’ve been coming 5 years in August. My social prescriber told me about it and now I come here a lot. I love it in the park, having a cuppa before my shift. Rachel’s a good one, she’s caring. She looks after us and Andy is a great cook. I like to tidy and do the hedges and planters. I also painted the benches in the orchard. I love how we celebrate everyone’s birthdays. It’s open to everyone. I get some exercise. I like helping at the events. I love looking at the birds, especially the robins. (Christine)
“I LIKE BEING USEFUL.” Majik I spend as much time as I can here. I’m here 2 days a week at least. I enjoy keeping busy. It’s as much about the people as it is about the woodwork. I used to busk, but I lost the use of one leg and so I don’t do that anymore. I keep coming here because, ‘no one else would let me loose with a screw driver and hammer!’. It’s a good space, it’s wheelchair height so Joseph can work. I love making bird boxes and planters. We even make toys for schools sometimes. I’m happy to know kids get helped by what we do. Henry I joined last year and I love doing woodwork. I love making models and helping out. The people are nice and there’s lots of dogs.
RE-WILDING Joe I’m Christine’s neighbour and she told me about it, I’ve been coming 2 days a week ever since. I’m 79 next year so I’m retired. This keeps me fit and I love the community, Rachel is so passionate about the park. I’ve been coming about 3 years now. My passion is wildlife and there’s ducks and voles. I love to see everything improving, the water is much cleaner now too.
NEW VISUALITY AT HULL ROAD PARK
PARKLIFE & THRIVE
I retired last year and wanted to do more with The Conservation Volunteers. I’ve lived round here for 20 years and my drive is to just keep helping it improve. I love the beck. The water is improving so much and there’s more life. Shrimp, water scorpions, leaches. We’ve also seen a Kingfisher and an Egret. I like to come and do the arts and crafts. The community here is wonderful with so many volunteers raising up the park. I’m going to be making some wire fairies for a trail we are installing. Rachel and Katie do an amazing job, I wish they were here all the time. Wendy “I’ve been coming to the park for 20 odd years. I live nearby. I just love that it’s a huge green space in the middle of an urban area. I bumped into a student who said, there’s not many places you can walk across fields to get to uni. My dog Tilly loves it, but even if I didn’t have Tilly I’d still come. I’ve met people at TCV and know most of them by name now. A group of us just started to turn up 12pm with our dogs on that side of the park. Sometimes there’s 5 or 6 of us. We just talk while the dogs play. I love the orchard, it’s really nice in there.” Michael + Tilly
Hawthorne Trees Rachel Earnshaw – TCV My favourite bit of the park is that stunning Hawthorne Tree right there. It makes me smile and I get excited about it flowering. I love the group and the positive vibe, the smiles it creates. The community, everybody getting what they need from the park and feeling positive.
It’s a purpose, I just facilitate it to make it possible, everyone decides what they want to do, or asks how they can help. Telephone: 01904 414927 Email: r.earnshaw@tcv.org.uk Website: https://www.tcv.org.uk/york
