Hearing that the young people of Holgate were eager to get creative this summer, we knew exactly where to turn: Poppleton Road Memorial Hall. This venue is ideal for events, happenings, and artistic endeavors. We reserved a series of Thursdays throughout the summer holidays and spread the word at local schools, Poppleton Road Primary and Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, that we would be providing inks and watercolors.
The response was immediate and enthusiastic. Soon after, we introduced a brief from our creative counterparts in Viborg, Denmark, a fellow UNESCO City of Media Arts, as part of their 'Draw with Denmark' campaign: "What do 'Angels of Hope' mean to YOU?"
Our sessions explored various artistic styles, including Manga, the natural world, and slogans. We even repurposed materials like crisp packets to create unique pieces focusing on healthy living and eating well.
