The response was immediate and enthusiastic. It wasn't long before we introducedthebriefthrowndownbycreativecounterpartsinfellowUNESCO City of Media Arts Viborg, Denmark, as part of their 'Draw with Denmark' campaign.Whatdo'AngelsofHope'meantoYOU?

We looked at Manga, the natural world, slogans, and we even reappropriatedmaterialssuchascrisppacketstocreateoneoffitemsthat lookedatlivingwellandeatinghealthily.

WearegratefultotheHolgatewardofYorkforthefundingandtherigorous work of Community Officer Michal Czekajlo. With their help we completed a colourfulbraceofsessionsandwecannowstartlookingatexhibitions.

We hope to bring in an international component by sharing the art of young folk with creative in Denmark, but as of yet that side of things is undecided. What is certain is that we had a great time, theyoungpeopleofHolgatehada cracking time, and Poppleton Road Memorial Hall can consolidate its place as the one stop shop for hiring a space. It's excellent. We hope you enjoy the art and the artists in this digital magazine, wehopewehavedoneHolgateproud

HOLGATE DRAWS WITH DENMARK

Draw with Denmark started during the Covid pandemic in 2021 and moved from a Danish charity event to a UNESCO Global campaign focused around creative and positive messages of hope Draw with Denmark has involved children and young people in 45 countries and in cities from all continents across the world, and has released a very special magic along with thousands of drawings. The programme has caught the imagination and featured on BBC News and BBC Look North There have been exhibitions, involving drawings by children in York schools, at the National Gallery in Copenhagen, and at the UNESCO Creative Cities’ Annual Conference in Braga, Portugal and in Cali, at the UNESCO Conference in Paris, and in Wuhan, in China and now in Holgate, York

This one off session with Holgate children continues to build on the good work. Many ideas are inspired by the friends and places of this fascinating area of York, from the green spaces, to the community spirit, and even the allotments The journey would not have been as great without Poppleton Road Memorial Hall.
