spring. This innovative characteristic notably enables the balance wheel to achieve a 4Hz frequency while maintaining a particularly comfortable power reserve for a self-winding model. This 80-hour autonomy is displayed through an aperture between 7 and 9 o’clock. In addition, the front dial features two types of engine turning, including a wave pattern specifically developed for this new creation. The inscription “Marine royale” is engraved on the tourbillon bar. Visible through a sapphire caseback, the bridges have been delicately chased to depict in meticulous detail the Royal Louis, a first-rank vessel in the French Royal Navy. The barrel is adorned with a windrose motif, in reference to astronomical navigation. This Grande Complication comes with a 43.9mmdiameter case in rose gold or platinum. The rose gold version frames a silvered dial and an anthracite movement, while the platinum interpretation has a blue dial and a rhodium-plated movement. Elegance, legibility and aesthetic balance are the keynote features of these two equally sumptuous models, which mark the start of a whole new era for the contemporary Marine collection.

hroughout his career in the 19th century, A.L. Breguet consistently demonstrated his exceptional mastery of time measurement. Now, in 2017, the House of Breguet is launching a worldwide exclusive model, the Marine Équation Marchante 5887. This spectacular watch simultaneously indicates civil time and true time by means of two separate minute hands. The running solar hand, adorned with a faceted golden sun, provides a direct reading of solar time minutes that is both quicker and more user-friendly than before. Breguet has also developed an extremely slim equation cam borne by a transparent sapphire disc to correct the equation of time by month. This Grande Complication timepiece also boasts a perpetual calendar. Two apertures—one between 10 and 11 o’clock and the other between 1 and 2 o’clock— respectively display the days of the week as well as the months and the leap-year cycle. The date appears inside the chapter ring by means of a retrograde hand, tipped with an anchor motif and sweeping across an arc running from 9 to 3 o’clock. This unusual watch also flaunts a third noteworthy complication: a 60-second tourbillon with a titanium carriage housing a Breguet balance with a silicon balance

CHANEL BREAKS THE CODE

The new CODE COCO watch adds an air of mystery to the seemingly simple act of telling time.

T

epitome of glamour, Coco Chanel understood the concepts of beauty, practicality and movement like no other designer in history. Her legacy has lived on spectacularly through a stunning series of timepieces, including the Premiere, the very first Chanel watch creation in 1987, which featured the octagonal shape of the iconic Chanel No. 5 bottle stopper and the chain links which are synonymous with Chanel. More recently was the introduction of the Boy.Friend Tweed timepiece, with its signature strap woven from gold threads. he

The latest addition to this family of fantastic watches is the Code Coco, which adds an air of mystery to the seemingly simple act of telling time. At first glance, one immediately notes the supple bracelet shines around the wrist, complete with the famed clasp reminiscent of the quilted 2.55 bag, created by Mademoiselle Chanel in February 1955. The watch itself is decoded. It does not reveal its secrets from the start. It takes time for the wearer to decipher the codes. However, once the clasp is open or closed, it unveils or conceals the time which is discreetly hidden there. A diamond shines on a black dial, adding to this watch’s unparalleled allure. Time itself is a secret to be protected. But once you have broken the code, you will be rewarded with yet another timeless addition to the Chanel collection of timepieces.

N

o timepiece symbolizes the brilliance of Louis Cartier as much as the Tank watch, which was designed exactly 100 years ago and immediately took its place as a reference model in watchmaking. The strength of the design lay in its dramatic break with the elaborate curves fashionable at the time and the exercise of restraint in its form. The story goes that Louis Cartier himself modeled the design of the Tank watch on the top view of a tank: the brancards evoked the treads and the case represented the cockpit of the vehicle. Over the past century, it has been seen on the wrists of Rudolph Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, Madonna and countless other arbiters of style. Now, in honor of the Tank’s centennial, Cartier has launched updated models of some of the most popular Tanks in its repertoire. First created in 1922, the Tank Louis Cartier symbolizes the quintessential Tank spirit with its proud, taut lines, softened corners and horns incorporated into the case. Today, this timeless model is being offered with two new faces, both powered by the 8971 MC mechanical movement with manual winding: a choice of rose or white gold in a women’s watch with diamond-set brancards, or a fine, elegant rose gold model that is a chic, incontrovertibly Cartier creation. When initially created in 1996, the Tank Française transformed the stylistic features of the Tank watches. The case was attached to a metal bracelet, thereby reconfiguring the design of the side brancards, along with a dial with Roman numerals, “rail-track” minute circle, sword-shaped hands and faceted winding crown adorned with a sapphire cabochon. In 2017, this practical yet attractive wristwatch has now been liberated again so it can combine the purity of steel with a brilliant-cut diamond setting. Launched in 1989, the Tank Américaine was the first Cartier watch to offer a curved water-resistant case and feature a new folding buckle that allowed the strap length to be precisely adjusted to the wrist size. The new Tank Américaine Watch, Steel embodies the spirit of the original in its contemporary, understated aesthetic, but makes an utterly modern statement in presenting steel as a precious material. Lastly, the new Tank Cintrée Skeleton watch is presented in two versions—in rose gold and platinum—both of which reveal a skeleton movement that follows the curves of the case. Its transparent design only preserves the bare essentials: the hands, the chemin de fer and the overlapping gears in the background, all contained within the distinctive curve of this singular watch.

Icons wearing Cartier’s Tank watch, clockwise from top: Catherine Deneuve, Gary Cooper, Princess Diana, Andy Warhol.

MAJOR

IMPACT JFK’s Patek Philippe quartz desk clock, representing the establishment of direct communication between Washington DC and Moscow.

M

ore than 2,000 people a day came to view Patek Philippe’s collection of about 450 exquisite timepieces dating back to 1530, including borrowed museum pieces, supercomplications, rare handcrafts and complex movements. The New York City exhibit (only the fourth of its kind to ever take place) ran for 10 days in July, but its impact on more than 20,000 guests will surely last a lifetime. Larry Petinelli, president of Patek Philippe USA, spoke to us about the importance of this historic exhibit. “Our goal was to attract not just the uber-collectors, but also a new generation of young people who might lack a passion for horology but are perhaps interested in history or sports or music. Despite the serious price points, we tried to make the exhibit accessible rather than stuffy. We featured actual artisans at work (enamellers, engravers, marquetry woodworkers) and highlighted some of our more renowned US patrons—Joe DiMaggio, Duke Ellington, John F. Kennedy—and the timepieces most meaningful to them.” JFK remains a superhero in the minds of both Americans and citizens of the world. The timepiece chosen to represent this beloved US president was a Patek Philippe autonomous quartz

desk clock that displays the time in Moscow, Washington DC and Berlin, a gift that symbolized the establishment of direct communication between Washington and Moscow. The clock (borrowed from the National Archives with strict regulations) was designed by Heinz Wipperfeld and was presented to Kennedy on the day after his famous Ich bin ein Berliner speech. “I was born in December ’63,” says Petinelli, “so I wasn’t around in Kennedy’s lifetime. But I was always intrigued by that era: from JFK’s assassination to the Vietnam War to the first man on the moon. That’s why this exhibit is as much about history as art.” We talked about the incredible Stern family, how they bought the company in 1839 (they’d been a supplier to Patek) and have remained a family business through four generations, an anomaly in the luxury market. (Actually Gen Five, Thierry Stern’s two teenaged sons, were in NYC for the exhibit, thoroughly fascinated…) We talked about the fact that, other than fine watches, few things in life are simultaneously useful, meaningful and investment-worthy, which is why Patek Philippe watches are (as their fabulous ad campaign reminds us) handed down from generation to generation. “It’s hard to imagine passing down my cell phone,” quips Petinelli. High Jewelry or

HAUTE COUTURE? F

ounded in Paris’ Place Vendôme, the Maison of Van Cleef & Arpels draws inspiration from the world of couture like a discrete homage to the city of its origins. Glittering golden lacework, sparkling bows, and tassels of precious stones celebrate this center of elegance. Remarkable for their fluidity, some creations reproduce the delicacy of ribbons or the suppleness of fabric. Constantly presenting new technical challenges, this theme has produced some of Van Cleef & Arpels’ most exquisite feats of jewelry-making. They inhabit a universe governed by the same eternal laws: a respect for tradition, the transmission of specialized skills, and the constant pursuit of perfection. The grace and refinement of haute couture are reinterpreted through the eyes of a master jeweler. Ornaments like buttons, zips, pom-poms, ties and ribbons are transformed into a glittering interplay of metal and precious stones. The maison has always shown a considerable spirit of audacity. The creation of the Cravate necklace was a reinterpretation of the necktie in a feminine version. The piece is evocative of Art Deco style, with its series of arching lines and nods to couture. It is comprised of a structure in white gold set with a series of round and pear-shaped diamonds. In order to make the five pear-shaped diamond motifs fit into the tie, Van Cleef & Arpels’ diamond specialists had to patiently source stones that perfectly matched in form and size. The openwork motifs in the tie seem almost weightless, revealing the brilliance of the stones used to comprise this ensemble. The Cravate necklace is a testament to the maison’s high level of skill and expertise. Like all Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry, it exemplifies exceptional craftsmanship characterized by unique artistry and demanding standards.

The Cravate necklace by VAN CLEEF & ARPELS unites the two worlds.

DAVID WEBB’s newest designs–and old favorites–debut at LONDON JEWELERS.

T

his fall, David Webb opens at London Jewelers with the debut of the Motif collection, new Woodworks designs, and a selection of essential David Webb jewels. Self trained and full of idealism, Webb founded his company in New York City in 1948. Now, nearly 70 years later, the jewelry house remains the quintessential American jeweler and continues to stand for bold design and exquisite craftsmanship. Hand-hammered gold, colorful enamel and signature animal designs are a few distinguishing features of David Webb’s jewels. Unsurprisingly, this independent and uniquely American aesthetic has gained the house a following among icons of style over the past seven decades, from Jackie Kennedy and Elizabeth Taylor to Selena Gomez and Amy Adams. Today, David Webb draws on a vast archive of over 40,000 original renderings, records and design ideas to create handcrafted jewelry in the brand’s New York City workshop. Originally conceived by David Webb in the 1970s, the Motif collection is a continuation of the company’s singular voice and dynamic sense of American optimism. Through the use of line and form, he created a distinct vernacular modernizing Art Deco motifs. The 18K gold, platinum, brilliant-cut diamonds and enamel found in the collection continue David Webb’s tradition of using the finest materials. However, this collection also singles out and scales down the design, evolving into jewelry that is youthful and easy to wear for the contemporary woman. Woodworks takes iconic David Webb designs and crafts them into sleek jewelry with bloodwood or ebony and 18K gold. The big bold Shoulder cuff, Bridge ring and Ski Slope ring are the newest additions. These stunning new collections continue the tradition of David Webb jewelry: boldly created and boldly worn. Discover the iconic designs of David Webb at London Jewelers Americana Manhasset.

INNOVATION

Filmmaker and explorer James Cameron wears a Rolex Sea-Dweller.

F

ounded by Hans Wilsdorf in 1905, Rolex pioneered the development of the wristwatch and is at the origin of numerous major watchmaking innovations. Among the company’s finest creations is the Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller. A technical divers’ watch that was originally created in 1967 for the pioneers of professional deepsea diving, it is equipped with one of the inventions that contributed to its stature: the helium escape valve, patented by Rolex in 1967. While preserving the waterproofness of the watch, this ingenious safety valve regulates the pressure accumulated in the case during the decompression phases of deep-water saturation dives. The latest generation of the Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller features a larger 43mm case and the new Calibre 3235. This movement at the forefront of watchmaking technology is backed by 14 patents, including for the exclusive Chronergy escapement, and offers a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. For the first time, the new Sea-Dweller is equipped with a Cyclops lens on the crystal at 3 o’clock to enhance the reading of the date. The dial carries the name Sea-Dweller in red, a reference to the first model. The 60-minute graduated, unidirectional rotatable bezel of the new SeaDweller enables divers to precisely and safely monitor their dive and decompression times. It is equipped with a patented black Cerachrom bezel insert manufactured by Rolex in a virtually scratchproof ceramic. The graduation is coated via PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) with a thin layer of platinum. The sleek black dial features large Chromalight hour markers and hands, filled with luminescent material that emits a long-lasting blue glow for excellent legibility in dark conditions. Meanwhile, the Sea-Dweller’s Oyster case, guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 4,000 feet, is a paragon of robustness. Its characteristically shaped middle case is crafted from a solid block of corrosion-resistant 904L steel, while its fluted caseback is hermetically screwed down with a special tool that allows only Rolex watchmakers to access the movement. Like all Rolex timepieces, the Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller is covered by Rolex’s own Superlative Chronometer certification (symbolized by the green seal) guaranteeing that it satisfies performance criteria that exceed watchmaking norms and standards in terms of precision, power reserve, waterproofness and self-winding. The certification is coupled with an international five-year guarantee, but the Sea-Dweller will spend much longer on your wrist.

As the leading Swiss watch brand, ROLEX continues to enjoy an unrivaled reputation for quality and expertise the world over.

UNIQUE LUXURY: UNIWORLD BOUTIQUE RIVER CRUISE COLLECTION

vid cruise travelers know the truth of the old adage: It’s about the journey, not the destination. And unlike ocean cruises, which may spend much of the trip on open seas, river voyages cruise right through the heart of cities around the globe to offer an up-close experience. Here, we compare three of the top luxury river cruise companies. BY JULIANNE PEPITONE Boutique dining on Uniworld’s Bordeaux, Vineyards & Chateaux itinerary.

We never tire of going above and beyond to create extraordinary experiences both onboard and onshore.” THE SCOOP: Fans of cookie-cutter cruise décor need not apply. Uniworld ships look like none other: public areas decked out with tufted leopard-print settees and abstract art, a lounge outfitted in gleaming teal, and suite walls painted in rich red. The boutique philosophy goes beyond the décor: Uniworld offers a slate of themed cruises including journeys that explore European aristocracy, Jewish history and culture, French food and wine, European Christmas markets, and “Generations” family cruises. Travelers on most of the European voyages are provided with butlers who are trained to “go above and beyond to create special moments that our guests remember long after they leave.” THE DESTINATIONS: Europe, Russia, China, Vietnam and Cambodia, Egypt and India.

the Steinway-designed Boston and Essex pianos. It is also the area’s only source for Steinway’s most significant product innovation in recent years: the incredible Steinway Spirio, the world’s finest high-resolution player piano. What makes the Steinway Spirio so remarkable is that it allows you to hear concertizing artists from the comfort of your home. Thanks to an advanced player piano system supported by a Bluetooth-enabled iPad app, the user has access to an expansive music library. The majority of pieces are prerecorded by elite Steinway artists at a specially-equipped Steinway studio in New York, but there are historical performances available as well. Some of the featured performers include Lang Lang, Yuja Wang, Olga Kern, Bill Charlap and Ramsey Lewis, as well as immortal artists like Sergei Rachmaninoff, George Gershwin and Vladimir Horowitz. The music library continues to grow each month as new recordings and video performances are added to the library at no additional cost. Every Steinway piano (including Spirio) is a marvel of fine handcraftsmanship and design that takes almost a year to make. It begins with only the finest-quality solid woods selected and seasoned for up to two years before the piano is crafted. The skills required to build a Steinway have been handed down from master to apprentice, generation after generation, to fulfill Henry E. Steinway’s wish “to build the best piano possible.” Today Steinway is the choice of 98 percent of concertizing artists, none of whom are compensated to endorse the instrument.

Mikimoto’s

MARVELS

Amidst long corridors, lighted booths and loud noises, jewelry enthusiasts from around the world visited the MIKIMOTO exhibit space at this year’s Baselworld.

H

eld in Basel, Switzerland, Baselworld is the world’s largest watch and jewelry show, where each brand showcases the best of the best of their latest creations. True to its brand DNA, which takes inspiration from nature and the sea, the Mikimoto exhibit space provided a tranquil oasis from the fervor of Baselworld. Cascading floor-to-ceiling white lanterns, the simplicity of the black and white décor, and walls lined with traditional Japanese Nishi-Jin Ori fabric created the ambiance for the ethereal collection unveiled within. This year’s theme drew from Mikimoto’s latest art book, The Pearl Necklace (Assouline Publishing), which was brought to life throughout the space. Using images from the art book beautifully framed throughout the space, alongside actual one-of-a-kind pieces, Mikimoto told the story of the pearl necklace throughout time and the importance of its contribution as “The Originator of Cultured Pearls since 1893.” Visitors marveled and delighted in discovering the beautiful High Jewellery creations, forever in awe of Mikimoto’s ability to marry the highest-quality pearls with sophisticated design and expert craftsmanship. Always a highlight were the rare and natural Conch and Melo pearls, set into stunning Mikimoto designs. Mikimoto also showcased its artistic use of gems alongside pearls, specifically in the white South Sea and black opal necklace displayed magnificently in the front window, and Passion Fire (above) with its intricate and clever design that uses fire opals and garnet to emulate the passion that burns in a woman’s heart. Visitors to the Mikimoto exhibit space left filled with a renewed sense of beauty, artistry, perfection and craftsmanship that only Mikimoto could bring to a frenzy-filled Baselworld.

COLOR

The key to a gemstone’s beauty is a four-dimensional balance of color, transparency, appearance and, most importantly, how a gemstone moves you.

W

hile precious gemstones have had an intrinsic value for centuries and an aesthetic value that is everlasting, one might wonder how to judge the beauty of these stones. Like works of fine art, it is determined primarily by the way we perceive them—and in understanding the subtle nuances which differentiate the vast variety of types and species of gemstones. Color is of the utmost importance. A sapphire of rich blue is always more valuable than a pastel tone. Transparency (or clarity) is also key to the makeup of a truly beautiful gemstone, since it allows us to appreciate the depth of its color. In addition, a well-cut gemstone will have more brilliance and will sparkle and shine better than a gem which is poorly cut. And that sparkle is likely what will speak to you and move you! Classic gemstones have always been desired, and today is no exception. In particular, classic royal blue sapphires are returning to prominence in fine jewelry, in part due to the brilliant engagement ring gifted to Kate Middelton (which formerly belonged to Princess Diana). We also have an amazing selection of sapphires coming from Madagascar in vivid blue tones, electric pink hues and even amazing purples. Regal reds are also very much in vogue and there is a thrilling new source of rubies coming from Mozambique; the stones

glow in natural sunlight with the warmth and depth rivaling that of a fine Burmese ruby. Exotic gemstones are all the rage in the world of colored jewels. Right now, the hottest name in exotics has to be paraiba tourmaline. It is a highly unusual gemstone which was originally discovered in northeastern Brazil, occurring in a very rare and extremely vivid blue-green tone. (Paraiba owes its electric quality and color to a very particular balance of copper and magnesium.) In 2001, the stone was found in Mozambique in much larger sizes and cleaner crystals than what was originally discovered in Brazil, helping to make it a darling of major international jewelry brands and collectors alike. Whatever your taste might be, colored gemstones are experiencing a very exciting transition today. With the availability of such a vast array of colors, sizes and materials, the possibilities for creating your next masterpiece are endless! diamonds

Rare TREASURES What makes natural color diamonds so rare, so beautiful, and such a wise investment? London Jewelers’ GIA Graduate Gemologist Guy C. Spaulding gives us a brief education.

C

onsider these remarkable facts: Diamonds form from carbon molecules between 75 and 125 miles beneath the surface of the Earth, and the process takes 900 million years (meaning the youngest diamond in existence is at least that old). Sometimes, 25,000 tons of rock must be mined in order to yield a single 1-carat diamond crystal. Ninety-five percent of the diamonds that do make it to the surface of the Earth are only suitable for use in drill bits and grinding wheels, and only the top 5 percent are gem quality. Of those, London Jewelers only purchases the best of the best. All this applies to white diamonds on the D to Z color scale, so imagine how much more rare are natural color diamonds, which are born due to happy accidents, a unique set of geological circumstances that cause a rainbow of hues. Because of the rarity of these beautiful stones, they are a tremendous investment. Values increase rapidly: they can double or even triple in a matter of years. In order of their rarity, some of the most remarkable naturally occurring shades include red, pink, blue, violet, green and yellow. While these colors can also be found in rubies, emeralds and other shades of sapphire, diamonds are over 100 times harder than colored varieties of sapphire and occur much less frequently in nature.

Because of London Jewelers’ high standing in the industry, we have access to some of the most exquisite stones in the world. Visit the Diamond Salon at our Americana Manhasset location to experience these rarities with your own eyes.

76

R E D This is the rarest diamond color in the world, caused by a distortion of the molecules in the diamond crystal due to immense heat and pressure. Only a few are found each year, and the largest in the world is only five carats. Because a highly saturated red diamond of notable size is so uncommon, a two-carat red diamond will sell for $10 to 12 million, whereas even the highestquality white diamond of the same size wouldn’t sell for more than a few hundred thousand dollars. PINK

Pink diamonds form in a similar way to red diamonds. Because they are caused not by an impurity but a geological event, the annual production of high-quality pink stones will only fill a teaspoon (and they are usually no larger than two carats). The majority of these come from the Argyle Mine in Australia, which is expected to close in 2020; expect values to jump as the supply diminishes. As an Argyle Pink Diamonds Select Atelier, London Jewelers is one of the few places in the country with access to these treasures.

B LU E Caused by a boron impurity, blue diamonds are almost as rare as pinks. They are found in select locations around the world and have recently been setting staggering prices at auction. V I O L E T Violet hues are caused by a hydrogen impurity in the stone. On par relative with pink and blue in terms of rarity, a small yield of violet stones is also found each year in the Argyle Mine. G R E E N Green is the superhero of diamond colors. As radioactive materials decay beneath the Earth’s surface, they can shoot off strong bursts of radiation. If this happens near where a diamond is forming, it can knock a single carbon atom out of the carbon molecule and cause a green color. Y E L LO W

These are the least rare of all natural color diamonds, but any yellow diamond is still significantly rarer than any white diamond. Diamonds are made of carbon, and when colorless they contain very little nitrogen. As nitrogen content increases, the stone starts to become more yellow. Anything past Z on the color scale is graded as a Fancy Light, Fancy, Fancy Intense or Fancy Vivid yellow diamond. Cooler hues of yellow have a greenish tint, while warmer stones have an orangey tint; true saturated yellows are the rarest and most expensive.

alerie Messika practically has diamonds in her blood. Inheriting a passion for these beloved stones from her father, Andre, a key figure in the jewelry industry, she launched her own brand, Messika, in 2005. We spoke with Valerie about her unique diamond designs.

Why did you decide to leave your father’s wellestablished business to start your own?

NO LIMITS Valerie MESSIKA on her exquisite diamond collections.

After my studies in communications and PR, I started working with my father, who has been in the diamond industry since 1972. I loved working with him and sharing our common passion for diamonds, but I was missing the creative part. I needed to be able to express myself, which is why I launched my own brand.

What kind of woman do you design for? We do not have one “typical” customer. We offer very different designs for different women—from the young girl who receives her first diamond at 18 to the active woman who buys jewelry on her own to the 60-year-old woman who is looking for a special piece for an event. Our clientele can be romantic, elegant, a little rock-glam or slightly edgy. I think of them like I think of our diamonds: multifaceted.

One of your most iconic collections is Move, which is now celebrating its 10th anniversary. Move is a symbol of yesterday, today and tomorrow's love. When I was a little girl, my father brought home some incredible diamonds and always let me play with them. He used to let these diamonds slide between his fingers. The Move design with three moving diamonds has been created from this memory. In honor of the anniversary, I chose to work with Gigi Hadid, a beautiful and talented modern woman, on a new version of this symbol of love.

Since you grew up in the diamond business, how much emphasis do you place on the stone selection and cutting processes? Our diamonds meet the strictest selection criteria established by the GIA. For our collections, we only select diamonds with an FG color grade and VS clarity. We pay particular attention to the quality of our diamond cutting to guarantee optimal brilliance.

How do you respond to trends while also differentiating your aesthetic? I create elegant diamond pieces to be worn every day. There is a mix of contemporary and timeless pieces, but always with a little twist, whether it’s an ear cuff or a hand bracelet. Nowadays, jewelry is worn where you least expect it and this is what I like most! I can express myself without any limits. Experience Messika at London Jewelers Americana Manhasset.

N A M E S TO K N O W Fern FREEMAN Fern Freeman’s collection never wavers from her design sensibility. “I like creating pieces with a wow factor that demand attention when a woman walks into a room, whether it’s an ultra-wide cuff or earrings that dangle down to one’s shoulders,” she says. “I am inspired by the past—the Swinging ’60s with those ultra-mod styles—a time when the jewelry was just as powerful as the fashion, and yet they worked together so well, in perfect harmony,” she adds. “I’m also influenced by the Art Deco movement and its classic style. I use these historical references and then reimagine them in a way in which the contemporary woman can take each piece and make it work for her.”

LONDON JEWELERS is known for offering the best brands in the world of jewelry. This season, in partnership with the Women’s Jewelry Association, we’re showcasing three soon-to-be household names.

Gigi FERRANTI

The fine jewelry designed by Gigi Ferranti combines the symmetry of geometric lines and architectural influences, all interpreted with a finely tuned yet powerful, feminine aesthetic. Her Italian heritage figures into all aspects of her designs; she is inspired by jewelry souvenirs her grandparents brought back when she was a child, the awe she felt when visiting her ancestral homeland, and the great ancient architecture and cathedral stained glass throughout Italy. Moreover, her designs are built for maximum versatility. “Feminine doesn’t have to mean fussy,” insists Ferrante. “Jewelry should represent today’s woman as powerful and strong— yet at the same time, sentimental, reflective and sensitive to the world around her.”

Lindsay SCOGGINS

After receiving a degree in architecture from Texas A&M University, Lindsay Scoggins began working for a jeweler in Dallas while she decided whether to proceed to graduate school. Intrigued by what she learned from a bench jeweler who taught her the foundations of jewelry manufacturing, she stayed with the nationally known retailer for a decade. After that, she took a position as the head of product development for a private label diamond supplier, responsible for licensing agreements to bring well-known names in the design world to the jewelry industry. “Now after years of putting the focus on other designers, my family and industry network encouraged me to start my own company,” says Scoggins. “I am proud to personally design each piece from my Fifth Avenue design studio, as well as source materials and manufacture all of my jewelry within a two-block radius. My designs are inspired by architecture, traveling, and of course, stories told by the clients who wear my jewelry.”

ENGAGING EXPERIENCE When it’s time to get engaged, choose your wedding bands, or select day-of bridal jewelry, TWO BY LO NDO N offers the best experience in the business.

T

WO by London, the engagement shop at our Americana Manhasset flagship, has expanded to additional locations within our Oculus and East Hampton stores. The unique shopping destinations blend the latest technological and stylistic innovations in jewelry design with a creative and interactive experience, all backed by over 90 years of London Jewelers’ luxury jewelry expertise. Our diamond buyers carefully choose only the highest-quality stones, in-person and from trusted partners, in order to provide our customers the best of the best. In fact, fewer than one percent of the diamonds we examine will ever be selected to become engagement rings at TWO by London. We know people shop for rings in different ways, so we aim to fulfill every customer’s individual needs. Some come to us with cocktail napkin sketches and hope for a totally unique ring. Others want expert guidance in choosing from hundreds of settings and center stones. But what they all have in common is a desire to take charge of the diamond buying experience, to test and browse as much as they want, and to have the experience enhanced by interactive technology. TWO by London makes all this possible. Our GIA-certified experts are here when you want them, but the welcoming environment encourages hands-on exploration. Hundreds of sample rings are at your

fingertips and can be tried on without assistance. In our continuing effort to improve the diamond buying experience, TWO by London also offers a beautiful, easy-touse website, twobylondon.com, which allows clients to build their own rings, customizing the style, stones, shape, setting and more. A wealth of information is available to help familiarize you with the TWO by London process, and teach you about the art, history and science of diamonds. MANSION BAR DALLAS

CURE

NEW ORLEANS A native New Orleanian who bartended in New York and traveled the world, Neal Bodenheimer returned to his Louisiana stomping grounds after Hurricane Katrina to open Cure, a sophisticated uptown cocktail bar that pays homage to the city’s cocktail history while pushing the envelope. He and his partners have since opened other establishments to rave reviews. Customers value Bodenheimer’s inventiveness and personal warmth. His handcrafted drinks and cocktail menus reflect the flavors and hospitality of his hometown and his world experiences. Cure has been recognized by the James Beard Foundation and is continually listed as a top bar in the South and the US. DELTA EGGNOG 6 eggs 1 cup La Canne raw turbinado sugar 2 cups cream/milk mixture (one cup milk, one cup heavy whipping cream) 1 cup Cathead Hoodoo chicory liqueur 1 cup Donner-Peltier LA1 Louisiana whiskey 1 whole nutmeg Grated nutmeg for garnish “Delta Eggnog is a great holiday drink, because it gets better as it sits over time. It’s regionally appropriate, it

makes amazing gifts, and it’s a great addition to any holiday party!”

THE BETTY CHICAGO

A local favorite in Chicago’s Fulton Market District, The Betty is described as an upscale neighborhood tavern with a sophisticated vibe, warm atmosphere and innovative approach to classic drinks. Mixologist Julianna Arquilla has worked there since its opening, starting out serving and moving up the ranks to running the entire bar. Known for her calm and finesse with large crowds, she creates thoughtful, fulltasting drinks using interesting ingredients. She chose a local big rye for this cold weather cocktail.

Tucked away on beautiful grounds in Dallas sits the stately, luxurious Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek. Recognized internationally for its exemplary service and extraordinary amenities, the historic hotel includes a restaurant and bar that have garnered awards on their own. Danny Caffall has spent the past six years creating sophisticated, flavor-layered cocktails and welcoming locals and travelers from around the world. “I love being part of something so special,” he explains. “Mansion Bar is an incredible place within a legendary property. Welcoming our guests is a great honor.” PUMPKIN OLD FASHIONED 2 oz. rye whiskey ½ oz. cinnamon falernum Muddled orange peel Dash Angostura bitters Eyedropper of pumpkin tincture Caffall is known for using interesting ingredients to craft traditional cocktails with an unexpected twist. “The Old Fashioned is a timeless classic cocktail. We’ve added a hint of the fall season to it. The beauty of the Pumpkin Old Fashioned is its subtlety: a breath of the pumpkin and fall spice on the exhale.”

Chicago winters can be long, bitter and cold, but they make the wait for the summer worth it. (The quote ‘Without the bitter, the sweet isn’t as sweet’ is definitely true about Chicago!) The Bittersweet is a perfect nightcap for a cold winter night. The

If it can survive being ejected from a plane, it can survive near enough anything. Should you treat your Bremont MB watch with respect? Not really. We don’t. We freeze it, we bake it, and we shake it. For hours on end. Then we shoot it out of a plane. Just to make sure it’s as tough as we claim it is. What’s more, it has been assembled and tested at our headquarters in Henley-on-Thames. So don’t worry about looking after a Bremont MB. It can look after itself.

The NAVITIMER 01 BLACKSTEEL LIMITED EDITION will be issued in 50 pieces available exclusively to our customers.

W

e are proud to announce our collaboration with Swiss watch brand Breitling to produce an exclusive iteration of the iconic Navitimer. The timepiece is distinguished by its Blacksteel exterior, Stratos Gray dial, three black counter dials, black oscillating weight and transparent sapphire crystal caseback. A cult model among pilots and aviation devotees since 1952, the Navitimer chronograph steps things up a notch in a version entirely clothed in black: from its satin-brushed steel case coated with an ultra-resistant carbon-based treatment to the famous circular slide rule serving to handle all operations relating to airborne navigation. Yet this original, modern and technical exterior is not its only distinctive feature. The 50piece Blacksteel limited series is distinguished by its exclusive Stratos Gray dial bearing hollowed black counters and framed by an inner bezel in the same shade. The original aesthetic is enhanced by Blacksteel hands and logo, along with a red chronograph sweep-seconds hand. Although exuding a natural sense of refinement, this limited edition never loses sight of its nature as an instrument for professionals—as confirmed by its famous circular aviation slide rule and the Manufacture Breitling Caliber 01, chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), a token of superior precision and reliability. This high-performance self-winding chronograph “engine,” entirely developed and produced in the Breitling workshops, is visible through a transparent sapphire crystal caseback. Complementing its technical and elegant appearance, the new Navitimer 01 (46 mm) Limited Edition is available on a rubber Navitimer strap featuring an aircraft tire-tread profile and Blacksteel folding buckle.

ABOUT BREITLING A specialist of technical watches, Breitling has played a crucial role in the development of the wrist chronograph and is a leader in this complication. The firm has shared all the finest moments in the conquest of the skies thanks to its sturdy, reliable and high-performance instruments. One of the world's only major watch brands to equip all its models with chronometer-certified movements (the ultimate token of precision), Breitling is also one of the rare watchmakers to produce its own mechanical chronograph movements, entirely developed and manufactured in house. Moreover, it’s one of the last remaining Swiss watch brands independent of any watchmaking group.
