GET A HOBBY THRIFT FLIPPING!

As the overconsumption and production of clothing grow, our desire to wear the faded denim jacket circa 2008 in our closet over whatever shiny new thing hits the racks at Macy’s diminishes. And it’s understandable — as we change, so does our style.

However, we as consumers should keep in mind that, over time, manufacturers have begun sacrificing clothing quality in favor of quantity to keep up with excessive demand. So while they may look “trendier,” today’s denim jackets are far less likely to hold their value and spot in your closet 15 years later. Assuming you replace every garment you own over the next five years, the longevity of your entire wardrobe will decrease while the cost to maintain it increases exponentially.

So we’ve established that buying new clothing outright is unsustainable, but why is thrifting any better? Simple! According to Statista.com, most items available at your local thrift store are from times well before that denim jacket in your closet, meaning the odds that they’re more ethical and durable than anything for sale today are high. Add that to lower price tags, accessibility and the chance to save perfectly preserved vintage gems from ending up in a landfill, and there are plenty of reasons to start thrifting.

But remember, the items you thrift are not the end-all-be-all! Thrifting is an art and, therefore, completely unique and customizable to your preference. This may be the biggest pro of all. You’re welcome to use items with luxurious materials like linens, silks and wools just for their fabrics, or you can cut, sew and hem items for a better fit. And don’t be afraid to get creative. Finish your garment with a bit of pizzazz to make it more “you.” Add some distressing for a modern twist, colorful patches for something spunky or lace for elegance.

If you want to hone your craft, try these tips for flipping clothes:

1. Shop local. Goodwill is perfectly acceptable for thrifting, but local thrift stores tend to be overlooked and less picked over, so there’s a better chance of finding a treasure! Panache Consignment is a Gwinnett County thrifting gem!

2. Don’t be afraid to pick up a needle and thread. The ability to sew unlocks all kinds of thrift-flipping potential, and it’s not as complicated as it seems. Start with a needle and some thread (and maybe a few lessons from Grandma). If you’ve got a knack for it, consider investing in a sewing machine.

3. The internet is your friend. Sites like eBay, Depop and Poshmark are great for searchability, have more items than you could ever find in a thrift store and are affordable!

SUWANEE FARMERS MARKET

The Suwanee Farmers Market boasts delectable offerings each week of the summer from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. In addition to a cornucopia of fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, market vendors often include curated selections of pastas, jellies, sauces, spices and rubs, sausage, eggs, fresh-cut flowers, baked goods and even skincare items. The market also features a variety of international flavors, from sweet to savory.

MARKING HISTORY

If you stepped foot in historic downtown Suwanee this summer, you likely noticed some new signage. The city recently installed signs at historically significant sites throughout Old Town Suwanee, including the Methodist church, Pierce’s Corner, Everett’s Music Barn and more. Many of the sites served as community gathering places dating back to the early days of Suwanee.

SCULPTOUR

Seventeen art pieces were installed in Town Center this spring as a part of SculpTour’s seventh installment. Since 2011, the award-winning SculpTour program has showcased nearly 100 works of art in a walkable, one-squaremile area of downtown Suwanee. For those who haven’t seen SculpTour before, this outdoor art museum is the perfect way to spend a day appreciating art and gaining inspiration.

STILLFIRE BREWING

Suwanee’s StillFire Brewing has quickly become a force in the Georgia craft beer scene earning 24 national, international and regional awards in just over three years of operation. The brewery's family and dog-friendly taproom sits adjacent to Suwanee’s Station Park and features two large outdoor patios, daily rotating food trucks, events and live music. With over 25 beers and seltzers on tap, there is something for everyone at StillFire Brewing!

CITY SPOTLIGHT: SUWANEE

HERE’S WHAT WE DIG:

THE ORCHARD

Deep in the heart of historic Suwanee sits this hidden jewel. Tucked away just past the community garden lies the Orchard at White Street Park: a fully functional orchard open to the public, the first of its kind in the Southeast. The City of Suwanee and Harvest Farm collaborated to provide families a fun and engaging space. In addition to fruit trees, the Orchard includes lawn areas for relaxation and play, a pavilion, winding pathways and play areas.

SUWANEE ARTS CENTER

JOIN THE RACE

SUWANEE FEST

Suwanee’s annual two-day celebration returns to Town Center Park on September 16 and 17! Nearly 200 vendors and exhibitors, 15 entertainment acts and one amazing parade are just some of the highlights of this beloved fall tradition. For full details about parking, shuttles, vendor listings, entertainment schedule and more, visit SuwaneeFest.com.

Town Center’s first art center, the Suwanee Arts Center, is a hub of arts, culture and creativity in and beyond Suwanee. The non-profit art organization maintains an open membership policy where artists of all types are welcome, making it one of the best locations in the city for one-of-a-kind gifts. The center also hosts year-round art education classes for all ages, exhibits and arts events in Town Center.

Suwanee’s running series is back, with the city hosting 18 races in Town Center and on the Suwanee Greenway throughout 2023. Avid runners will have the chance to complete nearly 66 kilometers without ever leaving city limits! Plus, runners who complete five or more races in the series will earn a limited edition Saucony Suwanee Running Series finisher t-shirt.

DiG DEEP PLAYTOWN SUWANEE 2.0

In 2004, over 1,000 Suwanee community members came together for five days to build the playground now known as PlayTown Suwanee. Now, the city of Suwanee is gearing up to do it again!

Build out of the new playground, which will also be a community effort, is expected to start this fall on the same site as the original Playtown Suwanee. Along with a helping hand from Leathers & Associates, the designer behind the first Playtown Suwanee, the city is recruiting volunteers to join the construction effort. Suwanee invites all residents and community members to partake; think of it as a gift to the future generations of one of Gwinnett’s many vibrant communities!

“We need volunteers of ALL abilities and interests!” said PlayTown co-chair Colette Grodzicki. “Whether you are a construction expert, a little bit handy or have never even held a hammer, we’ve got a way for you to be involved in a truly impactful project.”

As Suwanee preps for construction, safety of volunteers and future playground users is a top priority. All designs created by Leathers & Associates will meet or exceed ASTM International Playground Safety Standards, CPSC Safety Guidelines and ADA. After completion, the playground will be inspected and certified according to all guidelines above. The community can rest assured that the safety of their little ones is at the center of this project.

Though the new playground promises to be unique from its predecessor, many of the original elements will make a resurgence in a new way. Like most things in Suwanee, the new playground will reflect its city in its special features and character. Playtown Suwanee 2.0 also promises to be eco-friendly, using long-lasting, recycled materials for the framework.

Not to mention, the city is consulting with top playground experts for inspiration: kids! In fact, the design team has already visited a host of local classrooms and elementary schools to get input before construction begins. Their current design plan pulls from all the feedback gathered during these sessions.

Playtown Suwanee 2.0 promises to be a safe, inclusive community centerpiece to be enjoyed by children and parents alike for years to come.

“NO FOOLISHNESS & NO DRINKING” THE HISTORY OF EVERETT’S MUSIC BARN

“No Foolishness & No Drinking”

Those were the everlasting words of “Mama” Everett as her sons, Randall and Roger Everett, asked her permission to have members of their bluegrass band over to the family home to record live music for a talent contest held by local radio station WDYX out of Buford, Georgia in 1964. From that moment on, and (nearly) every Saturday that followed, Everett’s Music Barn (as it later became known) has hosted scores of local musical talent, including some of the most famous Bluegrass artists from all over the United States.

In the early days, the Everett Brothers began their weekly jam sessions out of their family living room, but with an increasingly robust audience each week, they soon grew too big for the space. It became a family affair, as many family members would pitch in to sing, play an instrument or host guests to their family home. Around the same time, tragedy struck the Everett family when one of the brothers, Jerry Everett, was killed in the line of duty. Jerry was an inaugural member of the nine-member Gwinnett County Police Department in 1963, but in 1964 he and two fellow officers were assassinated. It took 17 months to solve the murders. Still, in the intervening time, the Bluegrass music community coalesced around the Everett home every Saturday to comfort and soothe the family and the local community reeling from the tragedy. This act of solidarity immortalized the weekly musical tradition at the family home in Suwanee.

In 1968, the Everett family added a “Music Room” to the home to accommodate a growing cohort of weekly attendees to the live music sessions, but even then, it was still not enough space. That same year, the lumber from a three-story building being demolished in Norcross was donated to the family. Again, the Bluegrass music community came together to help the family transport lumber to Suwanee to construct what is now known as Everett’s Music Barn. It took approximately three years to complete, but ever since then, the weekly tradition of hosting a Bluegrass music jam fest has endured.

Over the decades, famous Bluegrass talents such as Jim & Jesse, Doyle Lawson, Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out, Larry Sparks and the Osborne Brothers, creators of the southern classic “Rocky Top,” have descended on Everett’s Music Barn. Many famous Bluegrass artists got their start at the music barn, and over the decades, they returned to play at the special place. The Everett family and the entire Bluegrass community have consistently provided a familyfriendly atmosphere, great music and fellowship to the many

NEVER HAVE I EVER... MADE

MY OWN CANDLES

One hot night in June, while taking a two-step dance class (another story for another time), one of my friends excitedly asked, “Who wants to take a candle-making class tomorrow?” The menfolk laughed hardily, and a few girlfriends moaned, but the rest of us were all in for a new adventure in adorable downtown Buford! My friend signed us up online, and our plans were made.

I’m not sure what I was expecting. I am a candle enthusiast, but I have never given much thought to how they are made. What I knew about the class was that we could BYOS&B (snacks and beverages), it would cost $25 to make two candles and I would have quality time with a few besties…sounded like a bargain! So, we packed a few essentials: Prosecco and a makeshift charcuterie board, and off we went.

Rusted Fence (RF) in downtown Buford is a whimsical shop that smells like happiness the moment you step in the door, and the owners are just as delightful. In the back is a sunny classroom full of preset stations with metal trays, beakers, wicks and an array of scents. We also received a list of scents to make notes of our likes (or dislikes). Basically, everything a mad scientist candle maker needed to mix and match custom candles was at our fingertips. For a few extra dollars, you can upgrade your 8 oz jars to various other vessels. Naturally, we chose this option and opted for rustic, square, wooden cheese molds.

RF also provides an eight-step “how to” sheet so you know what the heck you are doing. They also measure the 185-degree hot wax for you to mix with your chosen scent or custom blend. It took me three tries to decide on a perfect scent combo; I chose a combination of Georgia Peach and Barnwood for sentimental reasons for my son’s upcoming wedding. Who knew this random, last-minute class would be so much fun and result in a gorgeous candle I named “The Wedding?” I highly recommend grabbing a few of your favorite people and making memories of your own together!

Things to know:

You don’t walk away that day with your candles. The folks at Rusted Fence babysit them for a few days as the wax hardens and adjusts to any wick shifting that may occur. When you pick them up, they are carefully wrapped in cellophane with twine—I just love an aboveand-beyond presentation! They can also refill an existing vessel you already own. I did this with an old dough bowl and I adore it even more now.

Rusted Fence offers community and private classes. Find community class listings online and book private classes via text (678.329.9030). Classes are approximately 1.5 hours.

FALL IN LOVE WITH GEORGIA: YOUR GUIDE TO THE BEST LEAFVIEWING SPOTS

With average temps ranging from 55 to 75 degrees, Georgia’s fall weather is perfect for hiking, picnics and, most of all, scenic drives to take in the bright hues of fall foliage. The state comes alive with a stunning kaleidoscope of colors, from golden yellows to blazing reds. If you’re a leaf-peeping enthusiast or someone looking for something new to discover this fall, you’re in for a "treet!" Here are the best places to take it all in and experience the red, yellow and orange palette that paints Georgia’s landscape each fall.

All Aboard: Best Leaf-Viewing By Train

One of the most unique ways to enjoy Georgia’s fall foliage is by train. There are several options for your leaf-peeping adventure, so climb aboard, grab your camera and get ready for a relaxing train ride to experience the beauty of fall in Georgia.

Blue Ridge Scenic Railway: One option for fall foliage viewing by train is the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. Riders will embark on a 26-mile round-trip journey through the North Georgia mountains and can choose from a twohour Express Tour or a four-hour Extended Tour. The extended tour includes a two-hour layover to get out and explore the small towns of McCaysville, GA and Cooperhill, TN, located on each state’s line. The trip departs and returns from the historic depot in Blue Ridge, Georgia, and riders can choose from a vintage, climate-controlled or open-air rail car. Walking Wonders: Best Leaf-Viewing By Foot

We’ve shared some of our favorites for fall foliage viewing by train, but there are several options to view the rich reds, vibrant oranges and golden yellows by foot. Check out these State Parks that offer stunning scenery with varying levels of difficulty. Grab your favorite tennis shoes and hiking partner (or paw-tner), and enjoy the views and hues.

Vogel State Park: For a bit of a longer hike, the popular 4-mile Bear Hair Gap Trail at Vogel State Park makes a great day trip for hikers of any experience level. Enjoy the fall foliage and mountain color with a lake view at one of Georgia’s oldest and most beloved state parks. Vogel State Park is particularly busy during the fall when the Blue Ridge Mountains transform with a kaleidoscope of colors, so be prepared for crowds. You can get in with just a $5 Daily Park Pass, and for more information, visit gastateparks.org/vogel

Cloudland Canyon: Grab your camera, your coziest sweater and your sense of wonder because Cloudland Canyon is like stepping into a real-life painting in the fall. Wander along trails adorned with the rich hues of fall, where every step is a brushstroke of beauty. Cloudland Canyon has hikes for every experience level, from easy-to-reach rim overlooks to challenging hiking trails. There are several waterfalls and even “glamping” yurts if you’re looking to extend your stay. Cloudland Canyon is one of the state's largest and most scenic parks and is a must-add to your fall foliage adventure. Like Vogel, there is a $5 Daily Park Pass, and for more information, you can visit gastateparks.org/CloudlandCanyon.

Black Rock Mountain State Park: Georgia’s highest state park, Black Rock Mountain, offers sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains that are even more stunning when autumn arrives. There are hike options ranging from easy lake loops and moderate hikes to the all-day, challenging 7.2-mile James E. Edmonds Backcountry Trail. Regardless of the trail you choose, with every twist and turn, a breathtaking palette of reds, oranges and golds surround you. For more information, visit gastateparks.org/BlackRockMountain.

Whether you decide to experience Georgia's fall foliage by train or by foot, don’t miss out on the opportunity to witness the state adorned with the rich colors of fall. Leaf your worries behind and get ready to fall in love with Georgia.

TIPSY: INDIO BREWING

Indio owner and brewer Jonathan Martinez calls his beers “Cerveza Artesanal.” Translation: Craft Beer with a Spanish twist.

Their tap selection is diverse with IPAs, sours and lagers, and most have a tropical flavor enhancement to give a nod to their culture. What sets them apart is their optional garnish! A rim of Tajin can be added to your beer to give it a unique kick, unlike any other brew house in the area.

TAJIN FOR THE WIN

Tajin is tangy, citrusy and salty with a slight bit of heat. It is a combo of chili, lime and salt that enhances sweet and savory flavors. Indio uses it to complement their beers and cocktail rims, adding a bit of surprise to every sip.

The dynamic husband and wife team behind Indio Brewing started the brewery six years ago in their kitchen like most good experiments. But soon, they needed their own dedicated spaces to create. Betsy told Jonathan to “get your own room,” and that’s exactly what he did when he opened the brewery.

When asked about the creation of their unique brand and hashtag, they attribute it all to their Spanish roots. Indio is slang for someone “doing their own thing, their own way because they want to.” And that is just what Indio promotes as their vibe: no rules to conform to and an invitation to be yourself- as long as you’re not being a “prick,” as their tagline states. (#dontbeaprick ties in nicely with their cactus logo).

Beyond sipping on a cerveza, all visitors to the Indio taproom enjoy a taste of Latin culture, including evenings filled with salsa classes, stand-up comedy, exotic plant sales and live music.

IN SEASON: AUTUMN GALETTE

With autumn on the way, visit The Orchard at White Park in Suwanee to pick two less common (but still seasonal) local ingredients: figs and Che fruit!

Ingredients

1 sheet of store-bought puff pastry (thawed if frozen)

1 cup fresh figs, sliced

1/2 cup fresh che fruits, halved

1 cup fresh cherries, pitted and halved

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon cornstarch

Instructions

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375°F and line baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In large mixing bowl, combine sliced figs and halved Che fruits and cherries.

Step 3

In separate small bowl, mix together granulated sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon and pinch of salt. Pour mixture over the fruit and gently toss until evenly coated.

Step 4

Roll out puff pastry on a floured surface to create a circle 10-12 inches in diameter. Carefully transfer the rolled-out puff pastry onto the prepared baking sheet.

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Pinch of salt

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Coarse sugar (for sprinkling, optional)

Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (for serving, optional)

Step 5

Arrange fruit mixture in the center of the puff pastry, leaving a 2-inch border. Fold the edges of the puff pastry over the fruit. Pinch any folds to secure them in place.

Step 6

Brush the edges of the galette with the beaten egg for a golden crust. Bake in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until crust turns golden brown, and fruits are bubbling and tender.

Step 7

Remove the galette from the oven and serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

PIT STOP RADIATING FUN: EXPLORE THE MAGIC OF RADIUM SPRINGS

We all know about the Seven Wonders of the World, but did you know Georgia has its own Seven Natural Wonders? Trust us, you will want to add this one to your bucket list!

Nestled in Southwest Georgia lies one of Georgia’s Seven Natural Wonders and a true hidden gem, Radium Springs. This captivating oasis boasts a rich history, unique geological wonder and a serene natural beauty that has attracted visitors for generations. After reading this article, you will discover why Radium Springs is a must-add as a pit stop on your next road trip!!

At the heart of Radium Springs lies a geographic marvel - one of the largest natural springs in Georgia. The springs pump an impressive 70,000 gallons of clear water every minute (yes, you read that right) from an underwater cave. Amazingly, the water temperature stays at a cool 68 degrees year-round. The striking blue-green hue of the spring water results from its high mineral content, so be sure to have your cameras ready for its mesmerizing beauty!

Not only is Radium Springs a destination for lovers of natural beauty and the outdoors, but this one’s for you, too, history buffs! Radium Springs is considered one of Georgia’s Seven Natural Wonders partly because of its extensive history that dates back centuries. Radium Springs was initially named Blue Spring by the Creek Indians and was once a sacred site for Native American tribes who believed in the healing properties of the mineral-rich waters. The spring water's curative powers were believed to cure various ailments, attracting people from near and far. Cool, right?

During its prime in 1925, Radium Springs Casino (meaning gathering place, not gambling) became a hot spot for social life in Albany, GA. The resort was closed after losing its customer base during the Great Depression. Still, parts of it opened and closed numerous times over the next several years and hosted elite guests, glamorous parties and memorable events. Unfortunately, the resort was damaged by fire and storms in the 1980s and 1990s, causing the historic buildings to be damaged beyond repair.

However, the property has since been acquired by state and local governments and reopened in 2010 as a historic site. Recent renovations include memorials, the popular Spring Run Bridge, Radium Trailhead with 4 miles of trails, Overlook Park with outdoor recreation and gym equipment, a fishing pond and a beautiful mural that illustrates the history and progression of Radium Springs throughout the years.

When you visit today, you will see how Radium Springs stands as a testament to the harmony between history, nature and leisure and why it is classified as one of Georgia’s Seven Natural Wonders. So, whether you’re a history buff, a nature enthusiast or simply seeking a peaceful retreat to Southwest Georgia, Radium Springs should be a pit stop on your list.

ROAD TRIP: PUMPKINS,

SUNFLOWERS AND WATERFALLS… OH MY!

As the air turns crisp, the leaves begin to change and the vibrant colors of Autumn paint the North Georgia foliage, Dawsonville stands apart as a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts, adventure lovers and families seeking a memorable outdoor seasonal experience. So let’s jump into our favorite D-ville spots to get you pumped this fall!

FAUSETT FARMS SUNFLOWERS

Get your cellphone ready because a visit to this flower farm is a visit to one of Georgia's top 10 most Instagrammed destinations. Every year, more than ONE MILLION sunflowers are planted across 30 acres! Wandering among this sea of golden petals while breathing in the crisp, fragrant air, you’ll swear you’ve landed in a scene straight out of a Disney animated classic.

AMICALOLA FALLS STATE PARK AND LODGE

It should be a requirement for every resident of metro Atlanta to make this visit at least once. Known as one of Georgia's Seven Natural Wonders, Amicalola Falls is the tallest cascading waterfall in the state at over 700 feet. Consider staying at the mountaintop resort because there is much to do. You can fill your visit with hiking, ziplining, fishing and checking out the new state-of-theart visitors center opening this fall.

Bonus: Georgia’s only backcountry lodge in the Chattahoochee National Forest is also worth mentioning: the Len Foote Hike Inn. This inn is unique because it’s only accessible by a five-mile hike that takes you through stunning woodlands and over babbling brooks. The cozy accommodations, delicious communal meals and captivating starlit skies at this eco-friendly inn are a perfect conclusion to an exhilarating day of exploration.

BURT'S PUMPKIN FARM

Families from all over the region make it an annual tradition to roam this sprawling multi-acre pumpkin patch in search of the perfect gourd. But that’s not all this family farm of 50 years has to offer. Families will love the hayride with adorable interactive displays along the way. (Singing pumpkins, anyone?) A country store stocked with homemade jams and baked goods, including their memorable homemade pumpkin rolls, will leave your mouth watering.

UNCLE SHUCKS CORN MAZE AND PUMPKIN PATCH

This tangled and twisted 15-acre corn maze will seriously put your navigation skills to the test. Fortunately for us urban dwellers who rely on GPS, there’s also a “kiddy maze” onsite. There’s plenty of other family-friendly stuff to do here, including a jumping pad, towering goat walk, corn cannon and wagon rides, to name a few. (You can go ahead and Google “towering goat walk” now.)

So, if you're seeking an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life or want to make a new seasonal tradition with friends and family, plan a fall getaway to Dawsonville this year. It epitomizes everything beautiful that only autumn in Georgia can offer. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we have a 50-pound pumpkin to carve.

LISA’S LIST

FALL FAVORITES

It’s that time of year. The kids are back in school, it’s almost football season in Georgia and (hopefully) the weather will soon turn from searing days and warm evenings to temperate days and chilly evenings. And for those who would rather explore than watch football, there’s a bevy of new (or, just new to you) Gwinnett destinations that make for a great date night or family outing.

Just north of the quaint, historic downtown Buford, you’ll find the charming Cloudland Vineyards and Winery. Their vineyards grow along the ridge of the Eastern Continental Divide, a unique environment primed to create delicious, regionally specific wines. Plus, it’s an approachable wine scene, where wine amateurs and aficionados are welcomed alike. They also host regular live music and food truck events, with a focus on up-and-coming artists, like October’s Sam Grisman Project concert. And you won’t only find the usual suspects on their wine list. Cloudland’s eclectic, seasonal wines include Lenoir, Lomanto, Chardonnay, Petit Verdot, Cab Franck and refreshing sparkling wines.

Just south of Cloudland is the busy Mall of Georgia, where new, family-friendly entertainment is opening. Putt Nation allows you to test your mini golf skills on a course complete with audio/video effects, lasers, music, course lights and TVs. There’s no better way to wrap up a round than to belly up to their cutting-edge, self-serve tap wall, offering domestic and imported beers for the “19th hole.”

Opening in fall 2023 is the eagerly anticipated Pickle + Social. Inspired by the pickleball craze sweeping Atlanta, Pickle + Social will feature eight indoor/outdoor pickleball courts available as rentals for tournaments and other competitions. The venue will also offer a full restaurant and bar, an Atlanta Cornhole League (ACL) Cornhole Yard and their “Central Park,” which is full of yard games.

The storied arts and culture venue, Gas South’s Theatre, has also undergone a renaissance. Once the home of Gwinnett dance schools and holiday shows, the Theatre has undergone a million-dollar renovation, and with it comes a new slate of events and shows. Fall’s calendar includes tribute shows such as Liverpool Legends, Rumours (Fleetwood Mac), Bee Gees, Queen Nation and Departure (Journey). You’ll also find hilarious live comedy shows and international performing arts acts.

Moving into early 2024, one of the most eagerly anticipated developments is Politan Food Hall coming to The Forum in Peachtree Corners. Situated on the northern end of The Forum between Aomi and Soma, the nearly 10,000-square-foot food hall will feature space for seven independent food stalls, a central Bar Politan, a private event venue and an outdoor patio fronting the greenspace. Both established restaurants and up-and-comers are expected to be in the culinary mix.

Whether fall takes you golfing, wining, dining, playing pickleball or chilling out—we recommend wrapping up any evening the same. Pack up the kids and head to downtown Norcross’ South End, where the utterly and fantastically delicious Butter & Cream recently opened their third Atlanta outpost. This small batch, handcrafted ice creamery opened in late summer, and is already drawing raves.

The menu is known for its unique flavor combinations, including Honeycomb Forest, Butterscotch Brownie and my favorite, OG Goodness, a brown sugar ice cream with pieces of ooey, gooey St. Louis butter cake. Seriously. With rotating flavors, sorbet, shakes and baked goods, run, don’t walk!

Lisa is the Executive Director of Explore Gwinnett, Gwinnett’s official tourism office, and also serves as Gwinnett’s Camera Ready/film liaison representative to Georgia’s film/TV industry.
