GOLDEN H I STO RY

“ THERE’S GOLD IN THEM THAR HILLS!” The popularized phrase shouted from the balcony of the old Lumpkin County courthouse, now the Dahlonega Gold Museum State Historic Site, is a testament to the region of Dahlonega. A city among mountains that once truly held gold. As the site of America’s first major gold rush in 1829, twenty years before gold was discovered in California, Dahlonega holds a permanent spot in gold history.
