In the following pages you will read all about some of the wonderful support we received from the community for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Individuals, groups and businesses came together all October long to raise awareness and funds that will help St. Mary diagnose and treat patients dealing with this disease.
You will also read about the commitment of our colleagues to the mission of St. Mary through their support of the annual Colleague Giving Campaign and their dedication to our patients recognized through the Guardian Angel program. A special article highlights the life and legacy of a long time donor and friend is also included.
In the previous edition of the newsletter, we welcomed new President and CEO, James Woodward to St. Mary. Many of you may have had a chance to meet Jim during his first few months here. It has been fantastic working with him and I look forward to many more opportunities in the future.
Finally, I want to share with you how honored I have been to serve as the Foundation Board Chair. At the end of the year, my term will come to an end but I plan to stay involved as an advisory member. A new chairperson will be named at that time. You will hear from him or her in future newsletters.

DEAR FRIENDS AND SUPPORTERS,
hank you for welcoming me so warmly to the St. Mary family. This strong sense of family is one of the first things that impressed me during my first visits to the campus. Among the many colleagues who work here, there is a strong bond of collaboration, friendship and genuine concern for each other and for the patients they serve. This is also true of the community that surrounds the medical center. The faith that you have in the mission and vision of St. Mary is evidenced every day in the support you provide. There has been so much accomplished through your partnership with St. Mary over the years. Even in the short time that I have been here, I've seen many impressive projects take shape. We recently completed the multi-phase renovation to our Labor & Delivery area and initiated an update to the Central Sterile Supply area that offers crucial support for our surgical services. There has also been major progress in our Cancer Center. Work on our infusion room has begun and when finished will afford our patients a more private and comfortable setting

Each year, hundreds of colleagues participate in the Colleague Giving Campaign with a one-time gift or a payroll pledge supporting a St. Mary fund of their choosing. This year was no different. Over 500 colleagues raised nearly $100,000 during the campaign that ran September 6 through October 14.

LEGACY CARVED IN STONE
These lines of communications are always open
Sidney Yates generosity and friendship lives on
St. Mary colleagues, community leaders, friends and family of Sidney T.Yates gathered at St. Mary on September 28th to honor his memory and legacy. In a ceremony led by St. Mary President and CEO, James Woodward, the existing outpatient building was renamed the “Sidney T.Yates Outpatient Building.” A monument located at the flagpole circle outside and bearing the facility’s new name was unveiled during the ceremony.
Mr.Yates was a founding member of the St. Mary Board of Directors and Trustees when the hospital opened in 1973 and remained an active member of the Hospital Authority Board until his death in 2013. Sidney was also a member of the Foundation Board from 1989 until 1998. Giving back to the community was something in which he strongly believed. In addition to his involvement with St. Mary, Mr.Yates was active in numerous community organizations.
His faith in the mission and vision of St. Mary was evidenced by his generous contribution of both personal service and financial gifts exceeding $12 million. Renaming of the building in his honor is a reflection of the gratitude of the St. Mary community and a lasting tribute to his leadership, dedication and support throughout the years. The three-story Sidney T.Yates Outpatient Building currently houses many St. Mary services including Same Day Surgery, imaging, blood lab testing, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, Cardiovascular Catheterization Lab, Wellness and Holistic Services Center and a portion of emergency and trauma services.

Our ambassadors, volunteers and supporters assist us in this by sharing information about St. Mary and personal experiences they have had here with the community. We are happy to announce that after taking a short break, we have reconnected with our Connectors – a program that links individuals and families with St. Mary services they may need by utilizing the knowledge and experiences of our volunteers!
Our dedicated Connectors were eager to represent St. Mary at the Newtown Business Expo and the Bucks County Dragon Boat Festival in September as well as the Newtown Market Day and HeartChase in October. We look forward to the opportunity of connecting with more community members at future events!

The Guardian Angel program is a wonderful way to recognize these very special people for their dedication to serving the individual needs of those who entrust us with their care. Recently the Foundation received contributions naming Matt Seigenfuse and Brian Beno, both of the Physical Therapy department, as Guardian Angels. With a little help from the rest of the therapy department, Matt and Brian were given their certificates and pins in a surprise presentation. The kind words that accompanied each of the donations illustrated the reasons each is so special to their patients. “With Brian’s help, I can now stand up and walk without a limp!”

For the second year in a row, Sandwich Club, Langhorne partnered with St. Mary to help fight breast cancer in Bucks County. 15% of total orders placed between 10am and 3pm on October 27th were donated to breast cancer initiatives at St. Mary.
For the third year in a row, the Green Parrot went PINK for breast cancer awareness! The Newtown pub and restaurant hosted three fun and fundraising events with proceeds from each supporting breast cancer services at St. Mary.
Sandwich Club is a unique, authentic Italian takeout and delivery restaurant located on East Maple Avenue that creates delicious sandwiches, salads, paninis and much more. Stop in or visit their website SandwichClubLanghorne.com to place an order and taste for yourself!
A “sip and paint” night on September 26th kicked things off with guests enjoying happy hour food and drink specials on the patio while following step-by-step directions to create a unique work of art. Paints, brushes, canvas and instructions were provided by A Taste of Artistry.
Designer Bag Bingo on October 17th drew an excited crowd to the Green Parrot’s main dining room for happy hour specials and the possibility of winning a beautiful designer handbag. Ten regular and four special Bingo games were called with one winner each. A fifty-fifty drawing provided an additional opportunity for one guest to walk away with a cash prize.

The final event for the month-long celebration was held on October 26th with a very special celebrity entertainer. St. Mary’s own multi-talented cardiologist Dr. Richard Kass played piano and sang while guests enjoyed delicious food and beverages. The evening also included raffles and a chance auction.

Building supportive partners
Located in Quakertown, Art Z is a vibrant arts center that cultivates creativity and inspires community connections. Their Therapeutic Arts Center inspires individuals and families to build supportive partnerships through art-based activities.
Through two events in October, Art Z invited artists of all ages to “make friends, make art, make meaning, and make a difference” in honor of breast cancer awareness month. The events were a very different type of “BYOB” fundraiser ...bring your own BRA!! Using paint, fabric, gems and many other types of embellishments, artists could decorate a bra and either keep or donate their masterpieces for auction. Proceeds from the events will be donated to the St. Mary Breast Center. Sip and paint

LADIES NIGHT OUT
Shopping till we drop cancer
An evening of education, shopping, light fare and prizes was on the agenda for St. Mary’s Ladies Night Out held on October 24th in the hospital’s outpatient building.
As part of St. Mary’s celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness month the event’s three brief educational sessions focused on diagnosing and treating the disease. While the event was entirely free of charge, various vendors were invited to sell their jewelry, accessories, clothing, gifts and more with a portion of their proceeds being donated to breast cancer programs at St. Mary.
Ladies Night Out also featured a very special ribbon cutting ceremony for the Bee Well Boutique. The boutique offers a variety of items to help and soothe St. Mary patients and their families. More about the Bee Well Boutique can be found in this newsletter under Community League.

LADIES AT FULL THROTTLE IN CANCER FIGHT 150 supporters “pinked” their ride to raise awareness
The Ladies of Harley from the Bucks County Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) chapter in conjunction with Brian’s Harley-Davidson held their 5th Annual Pink Your Ride for MIA (Motorcyclists Increasing Awareness) on October 15, 2016.
Founded by sisters Therese Bingert and Jaclyn Bingert Kauffman in memory of their sister Maria, Pink Your Ride was designed to simultaneously raise awareness and funds for breast cancer treatment. For the second consecutive year, the St. Mary Breast Center was chosen as the recipient of proceeds from all registered bikers for this event as well as a matching contribution from Brian’s Harley-Davidson.
The ride – which encouraged participants to safely decorate themselves and their bikes in all shades of pink – began and ended at Brian's Harley-Davidson. The group, made up of over 150 riders and passengers made a brief stop at St. Mary where they were welcomed and thanked by representatives from the Breast Center and the Foundation for their generous support. Thanks to all who “pinked” their ride to help St. Mary detect, diagnose and treat breast cancer in Bucks County!
GROCERIES DOING GOOD AT MCCAFFREY’S
Shoppers fill their carts in support of St. Mary Regional Cancer Center
Every year since 1992, McCaffrey’s Food Markets holds a one-day event in each of their six locations dedicated to raising funds to fight cancer in the community. Because supporting the people and communities in the locations they serve is a core value of McCaffrey’s Food Markets, proceeds from this annual Grocer Fights Cancer day are donated locally. The St. Mary Cancer Center was the recipient of five percent of total sales from October 19th at the Langhorne and Yardley McCaffrey’s locations.
For each store, the day is filled with in-store specials, prize raffles, food and entertainment for the whole family. Colleagues from across all departments of St. Mary as well as members of the Community League volunteered at the Yardley and Langhorne stores selling raffle tickets, providing information about St. Mary services and assisting shoppers with bagging groceries.
In the 24 years since its inception, Grocer Fights Cancer Day has raised nearly $500,000 to help patients and families in Pennsylvania and New Jersey receive the best possible care while remaining close to home.

Scaring up a good time for donors it
was a dark and stormy October evening when more than one hundred St. Mary supporters arrived at the turn-of-the-century built country estate, Hotel du Village in New Hope. Welcomed to the hauntingly decorated event space by skeletons, pumpkins and witches perfect for Halloween, they were in for a night of treats with just a few tricks.
After a cocktail hour filled with mingling, delicious hors d’oeuvres, signature apple cider mimosas and live piano music, guests were ushered into the ballroom. Foundation Chair, Todd Buch, began the night’s program by thanking everyone for their attendance, but most importantly, for their support of the St. Mary mission. He then turned the stage over to Jim Woodward, President and CEO for St. Mary.
With a brief photo presentation, Jim first shared his appreciation for the Sisters of St. Francis whose vision for a city of healing in Bucks County is at the core of all we do. He then recapped some of the recent projects, based in this vision and supported by the generosity of everyone in the room, which will significantly impact the patient experience. Completed projects such as the renovation of the front lobby, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Bee Well Boutique as well as those currently underway, like the Cancer Center’s Infusion Room, would be impossible without both of these key factors. Jim closed his presentation by again thanking guests for their support and expressing his hope for a continued partnership well into St. Mary’s future. The program concluded with the interactive magic and mentalism of entertainer Henry Carlyle. Henry wowed the audience with his comedy, sleight of hand and mindreading tricks demonstrated on volunteers from the audience. As guests departed they helped themselves to a selection of Halloween candy, one final sweet treat for the trip home. The President’s Society Dinner is a way for the Foundation to recognize and thank those supporters whose annual contributions exceeded $5,000 or who have named St. Mary as a beneficiary in their estate plans. in which to receive treatment, complete with room for visitors and views of the beautiful healing garden. The Bee Well Boutique, located just outside the Cancer Center, is now open thanks to the efforts of the Community League providing clothing, spa products, wigs and other items for patients undergoing chemotherapy and other procedures. An additional improvement that is both cosmetic and safety-enhancing is taking place in various areas throughout the hospital. Worn carpeting is being replaced with tile flooring that makes pushing wheelchairs and stretchers easier and is simpler to maintain. Plans are also underway for a new MRI suite that will replace the temporary mobile unit and improve patient experience in this area. More about these and other projects will be shared in future communications.
The world of healthcare is forever changing and always challenging to navigate. However, I am confident that through the knowledge, experience and input of our Board of Directors, Medical Staff, management, colleagues, and support from you, our community, we will keep true to our values and mission.

Michaels brings a smile to pediatric patients
Every year since 1992, The Starlight Foundation’s corporate partner, Michaels, ran a tote bag campaign benefitting Starlight and the stores that sold through the bags the quickest won a Fun Center to place in their local community. This year the Langhorne/Oxford Valley store won the national competition and selected St. Mary to receive a brand new Fun Center which features a Nintendo Wii U and other kid-friendly technology! This unit has been placed in the reception area of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Pediatric Emergency Care Center.

High school students come packing the gift of love
Since opening in 2014, the Fatima Catholic Outreach Center, a collaboration between the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Catholic Social Services and St. Mary, has provided thousands of individuals and families in need with a variety of support and essential services programs. One of the programs housed at the Fatima Center is the Backpacks For Kids program which provides food for youth at risk for food insecurity on days where they do not have access to nutritious meals provided in school. Hundreds of children each week are sent home from school with a backpack full of food items to see them fed through the weekend thanks to the generosity of community members who ensure the Fatima pantries remain stocked.

Spooktacular gift baskets
In June, students from the Middle Bucks Institute of Technology’s Philanthropy Today club selected the Backpacks For Kids program as a recipient of a $2,500 grant. MBIT is one of only five schools in Bucks County with a club approved and organized by the Norman Raab Foundation which initiated the program and provides partial funding. The mission of the Philanthropy Today Club is to assist with the basic necessities of those in need, provide a second chance for those who are ready for a new beginning and to better the community through providing financial opportunities for veterans, the homeless and children in need. Grants from the club go to selected non-profits that align with their mission and make a direct impact in Bucks County after review and approval by student members.
White Dove Charities, a community based non-profit organization dedicated to offering additional assistance to organizations in need of financial support, once again selected St. Mary as the recipient of proceeds from their annual Spooktacular. Held on October 24th at the Hilltop Athletic Club in Feasterville-Trevose, the costume party event was filled with games, dancing, basket raffles, prizes and fun for a cause.
All proceeds from the 4th Annual Spooktacular were donated to support the Backpacks for Kids program which provides food for school-aged children who are at-risk for food insecurity on the weekends when access to nutritious school meals is unavailable.

MOMS ARE HELPING OUR TINEST PATIENTS
Babies in the NICU offered a soothing seat for a restful sleep
Bucks-Mont Mothers of Multiples (MOMs) is a club with more than 175 members in Central Bucks and Eastern Montgomery Counties dedicated to supporting mothers of twins, triplets, and larger groups of multiples. Not only do the MOMs support each other, they do what they can to support their communities as well. Many of the groups’ members know, from firsthand experience, that multiples often spend time in the neonatal intensive care unit after birth. They contacted area hospitals to find out how the group could assist these tiny, vulnerable patients and their mothers. For the St. Mary NICU help from the MOMs came in the form of a donation of a special baby seat called a Mamaroo. This seat helps to soothe babies who need the comfort of near constant motion and sound even when they are not being held. In addition to their St. Mary donation, the Bucks-Mont MOMs also made contributions to Abington, Doylestown and Grandview Hospitals, Einstein Medical Center Montgomery, and Holy Redeemer.

MAKING AN IMPACT FOR LOCAL STUDENTS
Getting a head start on concussion education and testing
Thanks to a sponsorship from The First National Bank of Newtown, St. Mary and the Comprehensive Concussion Education Team (CCET) can provide concussion education and baseline Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing (ImPACT) for over 10,000 students at 21 schools in Bucks County.
This is the second year of a five-year partnership between St. Mary and The First to provide baseline ImPACT testing and concussion education sessions for all student athletes attending schools involved in the program. The ImPACT program also provides education sessions for coaches and parents of student athletes. “Concussion education and awareness is a critical component in the development of student athletes and their coaches,” said Dan Schaffer, President and CEO of The First National Bank of Newtown. “The First is proud to partner with St. Mary Medical Center in this endeavor.”
This year, ImPACT Certification was offered to six athletic trainers from schools in the program whose districts could not cover the cost of the certification. Now all school districts in Bucks County have an ImPACT-certified trainer on staff. “We are willing to expand the program for schools who are not currently participating,” said Kim Everett, Trauma Prevention Coordinator for St. Mary and CCET member. RACING FOR THE CURE
On the road with Peruzzi Auto Group
Over the summer, the Peruzzi Auto Group made a very generous contribution to the Foundation to support the St. Mary Regional Cancer Center. The $35,000 total included a donation from the dealer group, proceeds from the annual Peruzzi golf outing and a matching gift from the Toyota Dealers Matching Gifts program. Fred Peruzzi and Doug Kieslich stopped by the Cancer Center over the summer to present the check on behalf of the Peruzzi Auto Group. COMMUNITY LEAGUE OPENS THE BEE WELL BOUTIQUE
Fall has been an especially exciting time for The Community League. Monday, October 24, marked the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the long-awaited Bee Well Boutique located right next to the St. Mary Cancer Center. This lovely space is managed by Lynn Carpenter with help from Lisa Wolff, a licensed cosmetologist.
Patients, friends, and family members of those dealing with cancer and other medical issues will find helpful, soothing items at the Bee Well. These include: wigs for men and women, bras, prosthesis, pajamas, soothing CDs, essential oils, Queasy Drops, all-natural skin and body products, lymphedema sleeves, hats, beanies, scarves, and so much more!
The store is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. It is open until 7 p.m. on Tuesdays. The store’s phone number is 215.710.5780.

This mural, located in the St. Mary Cancer Center, was recently commissioned by The Community League and painted on weekends in September by Carrie Kingsbury of Paradise, Pennsylvania. If you look carefully, you will see inspiring words and phrases offered by St. Mary colleagues who work in the Cancer Center that reflect what motivates them to perform the wonderful work they do each day.
FALL OUT & ABOUTS TAKE FRIENDS TO SPECIAL SITES AND PROVIDE FUN EXPERIENCES
Each spring and fall The Community League hosts five to six friend-raising, fun-raising experiences. Chef Jean Piere So far this fall men and women enjoyed a wonderful, scrumptious cooking class taught by renowned Chef Jean Pierre at his school in Newtown; toured beautiful Lancaster County; toured the historic Union League in downtown Philadelphia; and shopped, shopped, shopped at Woodbury Cooking Class Common Outlet Mall. On December 1 the group will travel to New York City for a behindthe-scenes tour of Radio City Music Hall, meet a Rockette, see the annual Christmas Spectacular, and then experience afternoon high tea in the Palm Court at the Plaza Hotel.
All of these trips are open to the public and are filled by signing up on the Community League’s website, CommunityLeague-StMary.org, or by mailing in the registration form attached to the mailer announcing the events.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR LIGHTS OF LOVE! TUESDAY, DECEMBER 6, 7 P.M.
Everyone is invited to attend the Lights of Love celebration on Tuesday, December 6, at 7 p.m., in the hospital’s main lobby and chapel. There will be a performance of holiday music by the Bucks County Singers (dressed in Victorian clothing), lighting of the St. Mary Christmas tree, that will be blanketed in thousands of white lights, the opportunity to see wreaths that have been decorated by many St. Mary service lines, and refreshments. Bucks County Singers will perform Lights of Love is also an opportunity to honor and/or remember physicians, administrators, patients, colleagues, friends, and loved ones by purchasing a greeting card for just $5 that is sent to the person being honored or the family of those being remembered. These names are also put on a list located by the tree. This is a wonderful way to begin the holiday season. Mark your calendar and plan to bring friends and family. 36TH ANNUAL GOLF OUTING IS HUGE SUCCESS!
This year’s golf outing took place at the recently renovated Union League Golf Club at Torresdale on Wednesday, October 26. Originally scheduled for September 19, Mother Nature decided to deliver a rain deluge that date, so the festivities were moved to a beautiful, crisp October day. It was a very challenging course that golfers enjoyed.
The outing was a wonderful team effort with volunteers from The Community League, the St. Mary Foundation,Volunteer Services, and the medical center working together to help things run smoothly all day.
An auction was held and was a huge success, especially for four mammograms donated on behalf of St. Mary by Jim Woodward, new St. Mary President and CEO. These were given in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Most were purchased and donated for people who could not afford them on their own.
The 15th annual Community League Kitchen & Garden Tour was sold out! Guests enjoyed visiting five houses in the Upper Makefield area, along with lunch/tea at Jericho National Golf Club.

All proceeds from the outing are going to the St. Mary Cancer Center. Plans are underway to hold the 37th event at this course on September 18, 2017.
This fund-raiser is made possible thanks to the great volunteer organizing committee, the generous homeowners who open their homes to visitors for the day, the chefs who prepare delicious food for all to enjoy, florists, vendors, advertisers, and many, many volunteers. The Kitchen & Garden Tour takes place annually on the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend. All proceeds go to support St. Mary Medical Center.
COMMUNITY LEAGUE PARTICIPATES IN DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL
The Community League had a fantastic time participating as one of nearly 20 St. Mary teams at the 2nd Annual Bucks County Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday, September 24, at Core Creek Park. The team’s name was “Belle of St. Mary” and centered around the book, musical, and movie, “Beauty and the Beast.” Lil Schonewolf, head of St. Mary Volunteer Services, dressed as Belle and served as the boat’s drummer. Other crew members wore Beauty and the Beast T-shirts and enjoyed the day-long festivities in a booth that also tied to the theme. One of many of the day’s highlights was when children ran up to Belle and were thrilled to meet her.

NEW CARDIAC CARE FAMILY CONFERENCE ROOM DEDICATED
St. Mary President and CEO Jim Woodward gathered with St. Mary administrators and colleagues, along with Community League members, on Thursday, October 6, in the new Cardiac Care Family Conference Room. Father Raju blessed the new space that was provided by the Community League for families of intensive care patients and their healthcare professionals to have a quiet area to meet in times of need.

IRA CHARITABLE ROLLOVER GIFTS
Are you looking for a way to help further our mission while saving on income taxes? If so, consider an IRA Charitable Rollover Gift. Through these gifts, individuals age 70 ½ or above can avoid taxes on transfers of up to $100,000 and satisfy their required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year.
To make an IRA Charitable Rollover Gift contact your IRA plan administrator to initiate a transfer directly from your IRA account to our organization. Note: Individuals cannot receive the payment as income and then write a personal check to St. Mary for the gift to qualify as a charitable rollover. Payment must be made directly from the IRA custodian to our organization for taxes to be avoided. Further, because individuals are not taking the IRA distribution in as personal income, no charitable income tax deduction will be allowed. The tax benefit to individuals for IRA Charitable Rollover Gifts is the avoidance of income taxes on the amount transferred to St. Mary.
