Academy of Vocal Arts

Since 1934, young extraordinarily talented singers throughout the world have sought AVA for singular operatic training. Through a highly competitive, inclusive and merit-based process, the Academy of Vocal Arts selects artists for the highest potential of career success for our unique individualized training curriculum. Through a 4-year tuition free program we provide daily coaching by world class faculty, instruction to enhance musical interpretation and acting skills, leading roles in full scale opera productions in the original language with a live orchestra. Resident Artists are the stars. Artists also receive an understanding of the requirements for success in a professional career through opportunities for language immersion experiences and presentations by finance professionals, working agents, artistic directors and successful graduates. We also provide stipends to help with living expenses. Our financial support typically totals $100,000 or more each year over the course of each Artist’s 4-year experience. Our approach has produced unmatched success in the number and status of AVA alumni across generations. Eighty percent of AVA graduates maintain successful performing careers on worldwide stages, such as the Metropolitan Opera and the Royal Opera House.
