The Application Process

Academy of the Holy Angels considers all applicants who present a strong desire and potential to succeed in our rigorous, yet nurturing environment. Some requirements such as our entrance exam and English language testing vary for different applicants. Please visit our admissions webpage at www.holyangels.org/admissions for details and online forms.

Current 8th grade students must complete the following: 1 Complete the Online Admissions Application.

2 School Visit (Angel for the Day).

3 Submit Transcripts and Standardized Test Scores –

6th, 7th and current 8th grade transcripts are required.

4 Entrance Exam (SSAT) – All applicants are required to take

the Upper Level Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT).

AHA does not accept other tests in lieu of the SSAT, and only administers the SSAT on campus to students applying to AHA. *8th grade applicants are not required to submit teacher recommendations or essays.

Transfer Applicants are accepted for mid-semester 9th grade or 10th grade at the start of our September and January semesters. Applicants for January start dates must complete the application process by December 1. Applicants for September must complete the application process by June 1.

International Applicants may only apply for the fall semester of 9th or 10th grade. Applicants for 9th grade must complete the application process by December 1. Applicants for 10th grade must complete the application process by April 1.

1 TOEFL Exam – In addition to the appropriate requirements

above, all international students are required to take the TOEFL: www.ets.org/toefl. International students must have a solid working knowledge of the English language. A score of 24 or higher on all sections of the TOEFL is required for consideration.

AHA does not accept other tests of English in lieu of the TOEFL. 2 SSAT – All international applicants to 9th or 10th grade are required to take the Upper Level Secondary School Admissions Test. AHA does not accept other tests in lieu of the SSAT. 3 School Visit (Angel for the Day) is not required for students living outside the U.S. However, visits are encouraged and welcomed for those students who wish to do so.

When looking at a high school, the primary focus should be on finding the school that best matches your educational goals. However, for most people, cost and financing options are also important considerations. The primary responsibility for educational financing belongs with the family.

The Tablet…

A financial aid application is available online at the time of application. Financial assistance is administered through FACTS Grant & Aid and the evaluation of the Academy’s Financial Aid Committee. Parents must reapply each year.

The best of all worlds! A laptop, tablet, touchscreen and stylus. It has all the best features of other available devices combined into one.

Scholarships

No matter where students are – at their desks, in the hallway or at home – the tablet allows them to take handwritten notes and with the tap of the screen convert them to text. Cut and paste and use an on-screen highlighter to create personal study guides.

Mother Caroline Scholarship This scholarship is named in honor of Mother Caroline Friess, SSND who led the School Sisters of Notre Dame to the United States in . This -year partial scholarship is for students entering grade 9 who have demonstrated excellence on their entrance exam and 8th grade transcript.

Students who are awarded the scholarship must maintain a yearly weighted average of % in order to renew this scholarship for the following year.

Sister Mary Nonna Dunphy Scholarship Each year, six scholarships are awarded to current students in memory of the foundress of the Academy. These partial scholarships are based on academic excellence, leadership, character, service and an interview with the Scholarship Committee.

Merit Awards Reflecting our commitment that Holy Angels empowers each young woman to reach the fullness of her potential, AHA offers five 1-year merit awards to celebrate student talent and passion in the following areas: Leadership, Spirituality & Service, Fine Arts, Music and Vocal Performance. Information and application forms are available on our website.

Books

A majority of student textbooks are on state loan, and many textbooks are also available as online versions. Consumables are available in our online bookstore. An average book bill is 300.

Write on the screen with the stylus pen or type using the keyboard. Take tests and quizzes electronically and keep a record of academic progress. Use the electronic filing system and never lose papers again!

Organization:

Stay organized with the PowerSchool Learning Management System & Microsoft OneNote. If students can’t be in class, their assignments and homework can be placed in the dropbox. Stay in touch with teachers via e-mail. Let your ideas flow!

Tablet PC – Laptop Program

All ninth grade students will be required to purchase a Windows 10 Tablet PC through Holy Angels.

The approximate cost will be $1,800.00 if paying by check and $1,875.00 if paying by credit card.

A rotational 8-day schedule, including a community period, allows students to choose classes from a wide variety of academic areas. Students are placed in four levels: College Preparatory, Honors, High Honors and Advanced Placement.

The OACC serves as a resource helping students achieve their full potential and plan their futures.

Using a comprehensive Holy Angels College Counseling Program as a road map, students, parents and college counselors chart the journey to success. Students meet one on one with their college counselors to select their courses, evaluate academic progress, and plan for the college application process.

Angels Advantage Program

100% of those who applied were accepted to a four-year college or university and awarded over 28 million in scholarships and grants. They scored a SAT mean composite of 1270 and an ACT mean composite of 27.

This program provides students with opportunities to shadow professionals in a variety of settings within the New York Metropolitan Area for career exploration.

These career professionals are drawn from Academy alumnae and present parents.

  Angels Abroad

Angels visit multiple continents and experience the globe as their boundless classroom. Students engage in service missions, test their language skills, and immerse themselves in architecture, art, music, and literature. AHA exclusive: Our bespoke program at Oxford features tailor-made courses presented by the university’s world-renowned scholars.

Angel Ambassadors

A select group of sophomores, juniors and seniors who represent the Academy at Open Houses, High School Fairs, elementary school visits and all major school functions. Formal training is held each year during the summer and students actively help in preparing to welcome prospective Angels.

Big Sister / Little Sister Program

To ensure that the transition to the Academy is smooth, each new Angel is given a Big Sister who guides her through the first year. Monthly homeroom meetings and quarterly Big/Little Sister events strengthen the bond of sisterhood.

Service Day

In commitment to Catholic social teaching, the entire Holy Angels community (students, faculty and staff) spends a day giving service at more than a dozen locations from food banks to toddler day care centers, nursing homes and environmental centers. fine and performing arts

Talents are showcased annually in the Fall Drama and Spring Musical.

Participation in these productions is based on audition, and students are also encouraged to participate in all areas of technical theater (lights, sound, costumes, hair & makeup, and backstage). Academy Concert Choir is offered to all students in grades 9-12, while the Vocal Ensemble is by audition. The Handbell Choir is offered as an after school activity, and Jazz Ensemble and Academy Orchestra meet before and after school. Various performances by all groups take place throughout the school year, including at the Christmas and Spring Concerts.
