DIRECTOR’S NOTES A Note from the Director: Hamlet is widely considered to be humanity’s greatest work of dramatic
literature. Quotes from it are everywhere: “The play’s the thing,” “To thine own self be true,” “To be or not to be,” and so many, many more. But does it still hold up as a story? We live in a world where meaning and truth are in flux: it’s hard to believe if what we’re being told is real; it’s even hard to agree on “facts.” It’s almost enough to drive us all to the edge. Shakespeare seems to have written Hamlet with the goal of taking ambiguity to the absolute limit. There are so many questions in this play that are never resolved in the text, so many choices that actors and directors must make that seem to have contradictory evidence that supports many different interpretations. As psychology developed last century, directors and philosophers approached Hamlet from myriad perspectives. In reading and performing it today, one cannot help but notice Shakespeare’s focus on mental health, toxic masculinity, the roles of women at home and in society, and the search for meaning in the instability of being. At OLP, we have a remarkable opportunity: a 100% female cast AND crew. This would have been literally illegal in ~1600 when the play was originally produced. While theatre is inherently political, the foremost statement I am making in ours is the CSJ idea that women are capable: capable of producing and performing the most amazing, complex, and insightful play in the dramatic cannon. This is a very new experience for her, because the only production she has ever participated in before was Spring Sing. Eliza Anderson ’22 Run Crew & Set Construction Eliza is so excited to be a part of the crew for the Fall production of Hamlet! This is her first time being in crew, and she is appreciative of her parents and the other cast and crew members for making this possible for her.

Ainsley Burke ’23 Ensemble & Musician This is Ainsley’s first production at OLP, she is thrilled to be a part of Hamlet. Ainsely has been a part of musical theatre for over ten years. Her last role was the Wicked Stepmother in Cinderella. Ainsley loves to perform and is glad to be a part of theater at OLP.
Maya Bhandari ’23 Doctor & Musician Maya is very excited about playing Ophelia’s doctor in OLP’s Hamlet. This will be her first time acting on stage and she’s enjoying being part of the cast.
Lucia Bravence ’23 Hair & Makeup Lucia has never done hair or makeup for a show before but is excited. She is good at braiding hair, copying hairstyles and loves doing it. She isn’t the very best at makeup but definitely tries her best. She’s excited to begin this new part of her OLP journey.

Through favorite shows like Little Women, Mary Poppins, and The Addams Family, she’s worked as a sound designer and microphone technician. Abby McCabe ’23 Gravedigger #2 and Dancer Abby is excited to be Gravedigger 2 in Hamlet. This is Abby’s first production at OLP. Most recently she enjoyed playing Enid Hoopes in Legally Blonde with Kids Theater Network. She is excited for this opportunity and wants to thank her parents and Mr. Tracy.

WHO’S WHO Catherine Nguyen ’23 Costume Designer Catherine is very excited to be designing costumes. She has been sewing for two years. Aside from sewing, she has also been sketching and designing for several years prior to her epiphany in sewing. Painting and designing shoes are her hobbies. She hopes you enjoy the show!

Gisella Osuna ’23 Set Construction & Props Giselle is thrilled to be props this school year. She has previously been in charge of props and has been three different characters in middle school play, Shrek the Musical. Stella Occhialini ’22 Run Crew, Props, & Set Construction This is Stella’s third production at OLP, and her second as a member of run crew and set construction. She is very grateful to her parents and Mr. Tracy for this amazing opportunity and she hopes to remain in theater for the rest of her high school career. Ines Ortega Flores ’20 Head of Lights After an entire show of pointing a light at people on stage, Inés has stepped up to the role that is in charge of ALL of the lights. Any complaints about these lights may be brought up to her directly, but don’t worry, for her designs will be perfect and you will be astounded by the lights (and everything else) in this magnificent story, The Fresh Prince of Denmark. Julianna Padilla ’20 Musician & Run Crew Julianna is looking forward to participating in band and crew for this year’s production of Hamlet. This is her fifth OLP production. Previous roles have been as a musician/ensemble member for OLP Theater, Spring Sing Band, or as Kelsi Neilson in High School Musical.

Ainsley Savant ’23 Osric & Musician Ainsley is overjoyed to continue her musical career with the role of Osric in Hamlet! Her roles span from TV to stage throughout southern California. Ainsley has been seen on the stage as Tina from Ruthless the Musical with Moxie Theatre and Pugsley in Addams Family with Center Stage Productions. On television, she was seen on the Big Bay Boom on Fox 5 singing the National Anthem and was a Junior Reporter for the Anaheim Ducks and Fox Sports West. Hope you enjoy the show!

Vanessa Rubio ’20 Barnado, Set Construction, & Run Crew Vanessa is so excited for her fifth OLP production. She loved working the chandelier in Mary Poppins and the arrow in Addams Family. She couldn’t wait to be hidden in the shadows once more, but in an unexpected change of events she was thrust into the spotlight.

She had participated in several OLP productions; Mary Poppins, Addams Family, High School Musical, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. WHO’S WHO Justin Tracy Director Justin Tracy (Director) - Is humbled and grateful to lead such a large and talented group of students. So much love and thanks to his wife Lorran, son Kanoa, and Mom and Dad. He received his MA in Teaching from USC and his BA with a double major in Theatre and English from the University at Albany. He has performed for hundreds of audiences in New York, Seattle, and LA, in over 70 productions including films, commercials, voice overs, and plays, as well as over 300 semi-improvisational comic roasts. Favorite acting roles include Stanley in Streetcar Named Desire, Pozzo in Waiting for Godot, Septimus in Arcadia, Henry in Skin of Our Teeth, and Dominic in the sci-fi movie Project London. Trained in radical theatre by Arthur Sainer, he continues to study styles such as Bogart’s Viewpoints, Grotowski’s Poor Theatre, and Bretch’s Epic Theatre. Mr. Tracy also studied improvisation at Upright Citizens Brigade in NYC. At OLP he teaches Drama, Technical Theatre, and Speech & Debate; he is also moderator of the Thespian Society, and is acting/ script coach for Spring Sing. On December 13, Mr. Tracy will be performing in Drama 3’s production of the play I Never Saw Another Butterfly in OLP’s Carondelet Library. There will only be 60 seats for that production so stay tuned for tickets. Thank you for being here! This show is dedicated to his own little viking, his new nephew Alairic.
Dr. Anne-Marie Dicce Musical Director Dr. Anne-Marie Dicce is the Music, Teacher and Coordinator at OLP, now in her second year. She currently directs the OLP Choirs, Instrumental Ensemble, teaches the AP Music Theory sequence, leads the music for school masses and liturgies, in addition to serving as Music Director for OLP musicals and serving as the advisor of the new A Capilots a cappella club. Prior to working at OLP, Dr. Dicce taught Beginning Choir at Canyon Crest Academy and was on the voice faculty at Villa Musica Community Music Center. She has held previous vocal and choral positions at Scripps College, Cuyamaca College, Coronado School of the Arts, and La Jolla Country Day School. As a professional soprano, Dr. Dicce has performed as a soloist and ensemble singer throughout North America, Europe, and South America. Highlights of recent seasons include performances with the GRAMMY award winning ensemble Conspirare in Austin and on tour in Norway, True Concord Voices & Orchestra in Tucson, Spire Chamber Ensemble in Kansas City, Bach Collegium San Diego, and the Sacramento Baroque Soloists. Dr. Dicce received her Doctor of Musical Arts and Masters degrees in Vocal Performance from UC San Diego, and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Loyola Marymount University. She is also a proud alumna of St. Francis High School for girls in Sacramento (’98) and thrilled to be a part of the community at OLP!
