WELCOME TO NOSE WORK 101
Academy Dog Training Team Guide
Ready....Set.....SNIFF!!! Our Nose Work Level 1 class is starting back up again! This class is a way for you to finally give your dog an outlet for that beautiful nose! Starting with our beginner level, this course helps you teach your dog how to identify and locate different scents throughout a room! The greatest part, all dogs are welcome! So you and your dog can jump right in and start learning! For Nose Work Level 1 we will start Saturday, March 30th @1:00pm!
The class is 6 weeks, costs $299.00, and will be held at our K9 Community Center located at 8841 Monard Drive, Silver Spring Maryland, 20910. The necessary materials are a harness or a wide flat collar (2-4 in) and very high value, stinky treats (ex: hot dog, deli meat, chicken, pepperoni).
Nosework Group 101 2024 dates are as followed:
MARCH 30th Week 1:
● Introduction to rules, scents and boxes!
● Initial nosework game.
APRIL 6th Week 2:
● Working on having the boxes elevated, and underneath things
● Making puzzle toys out of the boxes
APRIL 13th Week 3:
● Working on searching the perimeter
● Increase # of boxes in the arena, and use ~¾ of the arena
APRIL 20th Week 4:
● Introduce the odor outside of the boxes, in VERY easy spots.
APRIL 27th Week 5:
● Test dogs by not loading up some of the boxes with treats
● Should have the arena full of boxes at this point
● Start letting the dogs off-leash
May 4th Week 6:
● Boxes spread across the whole arena.
● Dogs should be identifying the birch, anise, and clove without treats on the odor.
