WELCOME TO SUMMER AT THE LAKES Day Camp and Summer School Programs We are excited to have your child join us this summer.

Summer at the Lakes is a safe, fun, caring environment where your child will broaden their horizons and learn something new.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND GENERAL TERMS COMMUNICATION AND STUDENT INFORMATION Absences If your child is going to be absent, please contact the summer programs office as soon as possible at (813)-948-7600 ext. 309 or email us at: summer@academyatthelakes.org.

Authorized Pick–Up Contacts We require parents and legal guardians to supply Academy at the Lakes with the names and contact information of the people authorized to pick up your child(ren). This information can be added and updated in the Parent Dashboard.

Emergency Contacts We ask that you provide us with two emergency contacts, other than the parent or legal guardian, in the event we cannot reach you.

Illness or Injury Children who have temperatures above 99.5 degrees F, who vomit, or appear otherwise ill, will have parents contacted for pick up.

First Aid procedures will be utilized in treating illness and injury. Children must be fever free or symptom free for 24 hours before returning to campus. If a parent cannot be reached, then the emergency contact(s) will be called.

Please be aware that if your child becomes ill or injured on a field trip, you may be asked to pick up the child from the location of the field trip.

In the event an injury or illness is deemed an emergency, Academy at the Lakes (AATL) will first attempt to contact the Parent(s) or emergency contact(s). If, in the opinion of a properly licensed health care practitioner (EMT, nurse, physician, etc.), the child needs medical or surgical services which require a parent’s authorization or consent before being supplied, the Parent hereby authorizes, appoints, and empowers AATL to act as a parent and furnish on the Parent’s behalf such oral or written consent. The Parent hereby releases and holds AATL harmless from any liability which might arise from the provision of such consent. The Parent agrees to reimburse AATL for any medical expenditure made on the child's behalf.

Health Information

During enrollment, we require you to fill out a short health information form on each camper. Please fill out these forms completely and accurately. The “permission to treat” authorization is required to enroll your child.

Photo Release

The Parent agrees to allow the Student’s name, likeness, voice, and photograph to be used by AATL in school publications, promotional materials, educational materials, videos, and website, without compensation and without prior notice. The Parent releases and holds AATL harmless from any liability stemming from the use of the Student’s name, likeness, voice, or photograph.

Summer at the Lakes T-shirts Every camper and student will receive a Summer at the Lakes t-shirt! Please be sure to pick up t-shirts at check-in located in our Gymnasium.

TERMS & INFORMATION DROP-OFF & SESSION INFORMATION Driving & Parking Please follow the parking lot directional arrows for pick-up and drop-off. If parking, please use a space and do not park alongside the basketball court, as buses will be arriving in that area.

Summer School Session Drop-off and Pick up Procedures For Kindergarten-rising 5th graders sessions will take place on the Lower Division Wendlek Campus beginning at 8:30 am.

Please take your child directly to the Wendlek Campus for drop-off. Teachers will be waiting outside for their students. If your child requires extended morning care, you may take them to the McCormick Campus gymnasium between 7:30-8:00 am, check them in at the front table, and they will be transported to the Wendlek Campus by 8:30 am. Session pick-up will be at 11:30 am and is located on the McCormick Campus in the gymnasium. Only authorized parents/guardians may pick up participants and may be required to show a government issued ID. For rising 6th graders-rising 8th graders sessions will take place on the McCormick Campus. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early to allow for check-in. Drop-off will be located on the McCormick Campus in the gymnasium. Students should enter the gym and check-in at the front table. Session signs will be posted in the gymnasium in designated areas. Session pick-up will be at 11:30 am and is also located at the gymnasium. Only authorized parents/guardians may pick up participants and may be required to show a government issued ID.

Session pick-up will be at 11:30 am and is also located at the gymnasium. Only authorized parents/guardians may pick up participants and may be required to show a government issued ID. Afternoon camp sessions begin at 12:00 pm and end at 3:00 pm. Session drop-off will be located on the McCormick Campus in the gymnasium. Please pick up your child by 3:15 pm or they will automatically attend extended afternoon care.

Preschool Camp: Summer Playhouse 3 and 4 year olds attending Summer Playhouse Camp must be signed in and out on the Wendlek Campus in room W-15. Morning and afternoon care is not available for 3-year olds. Your child must be three years old by June 1, 2020 (you will be required to provide a copy of their birth certificate.) All campers must be fully toilet trained.

DAILY/ON-CAMPUS INFORMATION Dress Code Clothing should be appropriate to the activities children will be participating in and comfortable. Proper shoes must be worn for all sports. Flip-flops and backless shoes are not appropriate for camp. Sneakers or tennis shoes are the best options for safety and comfort. Certain camps will be located outside; please apply or send sunscreen with your child.

Electronic Devices Electronic devices should not be used during camp sessions. While we do permit them to be on campus, we are not responsible if the electronic device becomes lost or damaged.

TERMS & INFORMATION Extended Care Extended morning care is in the gymnasium for PreK4-rising 9th graders from 7:30 am-8:00 am. The cost is $5 per child. Charges will be added to your invoice daily. Extended afternoon care begins at 3:15 pm and ends at 6:00 pm. The cost is $5 per hour, per child. If parents/guardians do not pick their child up from extended care by 6:00 pm a late pick-up fee will be applied to the applicable invoice at $1.00 per minute after 6:00 pm. Morning and afternoon care is not available for 3-year olds. Charges will be added to your invoice daily. The Extended afternoon care room will be located in the Upper Division building, Room 39. The door faces the gymnasium. Please park in front of the Upper Division building.

Lunch Participants must provide their own snacks, lunches, and water bottles. Be sure lunch boxes and all belongings have your child’s name on them. Participants will eat a supervised lunch in the Melech Pavilion on the McCormick Campus and in classrooms on the Wendlek Campus from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm.

Icy-pops Campers will be given icy-pops during their afternoon session snack break.

Snow Cone Vendor Each week on Thursdays, snow cones will be available for campers to purchase. The snow cone truck will park outside of the Gymnasium on McCormick Campus. Campers will be able to purchase snow cones AFTER they have been picked up by their parents/guardians. Campers that are attending Extended Care will be able to purchase the snow cones at the beginning of Extended Care.

BILLING INFORMATION Fees

A non-refundable deposit is due at the time of enrollment for all sessions. The deposit for high school for-credit courses is $150 or $100 per course. The deposit for a camp or noncredit class is $25 per session. Deposits are non-refundable, no exceptions.

Payments High school courses must be paid in full prior to the first day of class. Payments for camps and noncredit classes will be auto-charged to the credit card on file in two-week increments. Charges for extended care will be included. An invoice/statement will be emailed to you. A valid credit card is required.

Balances will be billed according to this schedule: High School courses: Friday, May 29 Weeks 1 and 2 sessions + extended care: Monday, June 15 Weeks 3 and 4 sessions + extended care: Monday, June 29

Weeks 5 and 6 sessions + extended care: Monday, July 13 Weeks 7 and 8 sessions + extended care: Monday, July 27

OUR REGISTRATION WEBSITE

www.summeratthelakes.com GETTING STARTED Summer at the Lakes uses an online registration and payment system. You will need an email address to set up your account and a credit card to set up your payments. Invoices, statements, and communications will be sent to your email address.

PLANNING Use the Summer at a Glance charts on pages 7-10 to plan your child’s schedule. We recommend using one chart per child. You can download additional charts on our website: www.summeratthelakes.com.

Camps are grade or age specific. Please refer to each camp description for the appropriate information or look for the numbers in the ( ) on the charts. “Grade” means the grade your child will enter in August 2020. Please note: children must be three years old

by June 1, 2020. All young children must be fully toilet trained.

ENROLLMENT 1. To enroll, go to: www.summeratthelakes.com.

2. Returning Families: Click “Parent Dashboard” at the top of the page. Log in to your account, then click “Enrollment” in the gray navigation bar at the top of the page. If you have forgotten your password, you may reset it by clicking "What's my password" next to the Password field. Skip to step 6.

3. New Families: click “Online Registration” at the top of the page. You will be prompted to upload a photo.

4. Enter the parent, child, and mailing address information; add additional children by clicking “+ Add another child.”

5. When all information is completed, click “Continue.”

6. On the next screen, click on your child’s name to begin selecting the camps by date.

7. Click “Add this enrollment option” next to the week(s) you wish to attend; then select a camp or school session.

8. When you have finished selecting the sessions, click “Save and Continue” at the bottom of the page.

9. Your child will receive a free camp t-shirt. Select a size then click “Continue.”

10. Fill out the required health information and emergency contact forms. Click “Submit” to continue to the checkout screen.

11. Select your payment option and enter your credit card information.

12. Read and agree to the “Terms and Conditions,” then click “Submit Enrollment Request.”

You will receive a registration confirmation by email. If you are enrolling for the first time, we will also send you your login information for the Parent Dashboard.

PARENT DASHBOARD The Parent Dashboard is a secure-login website where you may access your child(ren)’s camp and summer school schedule, view account balances, update account and payment information, add authorized pick-up information, and enroll in additional sessions.

Your login information will be emailed to you. To access your parent dashboard, go to: www.summeratthelakes.com and click “Returning Families: Parent Dashboard” at the top of the page.

SUMMER SCHOOL FOR-CREDIT HIGH SCHOOL COURSES BLENDED LEARNING FORMAT FOR MAXIMUM SUMMER FLEXIBILITY All high school credit courses will feature blended instruction: a combination of face-to-face and individualized technologybased instruction. This format allows students to complete high-quality courses while allowing families the flexibility to engage in other summer activities. All classes are contingent on enrollment.

COST $1000 per ½ credit course. Classes are for acceleration or grade replacement. A deposit of $100 is due upon registration. $1500 per 1 credit course. Classes are for acceleration or grade replacement. A deposit of $150 is due upon registration.

*NEW* Economics Honors Economics is the study of how the forces of supply and demand lead people to choose how they use scarce products and service resources. Students will explore the interaction of supply and demand, the GDP, inflation, unemployment, international trade, fiscal policy, and monetary policy. The Economics program also familiarizes students with the foremost principles and practices of various economic systems found worldwide.

Personal Finance Personal Finance is a course designed to help students understand the impact of individual choices. Topics covered will include income, money management, spending and credit, as well as saving and investing.

American Government Honors American Government begins by defining the basic principles underlying the U.S. system of government as well as governmental terminology used throughout the world. The main body of the course examines the entire U.S. Constitution and analyzes how each clause has been interpreted and implemented through the lens of U.S. history. An examination of the functions of local governments within the U.S. follows the study of the federal government.

Algebra II, Algebra II Honors Algebra II is the foundation/support course for all higher math and science courses. This course is designed to build on algebraic and geometric concepts. It also introduces logarithmic and exponential functions and sequences and series. The content of this course is important for students’ success on both the SAT/ACT and college mathematics entrance exams.

SUMMER SCHOOL Geometry I, Geometry I Honors The Geometry course includes an in-depth analysis of plane, solid, and coordinate geometry as they relate to both abstract mathematical concepts as well as real-world problem situations. Topics include logic and proofs, parallel lines and polygons, perimeter and area analysis, volume and surface area analysis, similarity and congruence, trigonometry, and analytic geometry.

Emphasis will be placed on developing critical thinking skills as they relate to logical reasoning and argument.

Pre-Calculus Honors The Pre-Calculus Honors course is designed to prepare students for additional work in mathematics—specifically, Calculus. Course content includes a study of the following functions: trigonometric, polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, rational, radical, and other primary functions. Topics in analytical geometry, polar coordinates, and parametric equations, sequences and series, matrices, and systems of equations are also included in the course content as preparation for college level mathematics courses. This course requires the use of a graphing calculator.

Spanish I, Spanish I Honors, Spanish II, Spanish II Honors, Spanish III, Spanish III Honors, Spanish IV, Spanish IV Honors Students will learn the structure of the Spanish language. Emphasis is on pronunciation, sentence structure, and communication.

The principles of physical fitness are incorporated into each unit. Weekly fitness runs/walks are also conducted. Activity days will reflect back to the five components of fitness: Cardiovascular, Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance, Flexibility, and Body Composition. Character development, sportsmanship, leadership, and cooperation are also an integral part of the curriculum.

ENRICHMENT CAMPS American Girl Friendship Club Week of: 6/22

Canine Crew Week of: 6/1, 6/29, 7/13

Do you love dogs? If you want to learn more about dogs come join the Canine Crew. You will get to learn about many of the 180 breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club and many mixed breeds as well. You may meet a dog groomer, trainer, and vet.

Learn about K-9 dogs and find out what goes into training those special animals. Campers will make homemade dog biscuits, visit a training facility and a pet shelter. If you really love dogs then this is the camp for you!

Chess Champs!

Do you want to learn how to play chess or just want to brush up skills? Come spend a week playing chess on our game boards, digital games, and our GIANT outdoor chess set. Campers will learn and improve their game of chess while having fun with other chess enthusiasts!

Dinosaur Club Week of: 6/15 Week of: 7/20

This camp is for dinosaur enthusiasts. Kids will enjoy stories and read-alouds (both informational and literary), crafts/projects (such as a mini dinosaur excavation), and experiments (making fossil dough) that are all centered on the world of dinosaurs. Campers can even wear their favorite dinosaur shirts if they like!

First Responders Academy Week of: 6/8

Time: 12:00-3:00 PM

Grades: 3rd-6th

Do you want to be a firefighter, EMT, police officer, or federal emergency responder? Spend the week learning about each profession and what it takes to succeed. Each day will focus on a different first responder career and will include hands-on activities, first aid training, and guest speakers. This is a week that campers will never forget!

Join the fun working with Legos. Campers will improve their building skills using many model sets and also have the opportunity to put their imagination to work building their own creations of vehicles, bridges, buildings, etc. with the free blocks. ENRICHMENT CAMPS Little Princess Academy Week of: 6/15

Inspired by fictional, historical, and modern-day princesses, each day of camp will focus on different character traits: kindness, courage, and strength through adversity. Each Little Princess will have fun and learn through engaging activities, films, and crafts.

Mastering the fundamentals of ball handling, shooting, and defense is the key to becoming a successful basketball player. This camp will teach the techniques for all the basic skills such as dribbling, passing, and playing defense. Players will also develop their shooting skills and learn the correct way to shoot free throws, jump shots, and lay-ups while playing practice games. All of this is accomplished with an emphasis on fun!

Cheerleading Week of: 6/22

Time: 8:30-11:30 AM

Grades: K-5th

Cost: $150

Are you interested in cheerleading or gymnastics? Come spend a week learning basic cheer, dance, and tumbling techniques while having lots of fun! Campers will be taught the fundamentals including chants, cheers, jumps, basic stunts, and dance routines along with important safety guidelines. Campers should wear comfortable shorts, t-shirts, and tennis shoes. On Friday, June 26th a group performance will be held in the gym at 9:00 am, parents, guardians, and friends are welcome to attend!

Fun Fit Weeks of: 6/8, 6/22

Each day will be an adventure and opportunity to become physically fit and stay active throughout the summer. Campers will participate in different physical activities like body-weight training, weight-lifting, and endurance training. This camp will test their coordination, improve their balance, increase their endurance, and show campers that fitness is FUN! Girls' Volleyball Week of: 6/1 Week of: 7/13

Spend a week learning the foundational skills of volleyball through extremely fun drills and practice games. Young athletes will learn all the basic fundamentals of volleyball such as passing, setting, and serving.

Both beginners and intermediate players can learn and master this game. Emphasis will be on passing, kicking, dribbling, tactical awareness, and scoring skills. Campers should wear shin guards. This camp will be held in our gym.

Speed and Agility Week of: 7/13

Time: 8:30-11:30 AM

Grades: 5th-9th

Cost: $150

This camp will help to improve agility, quickness, speed, explosiveness, reaction time, as well as help to prevent injuries in sports!

Workouts will be conducted in our weight training facility as well as outside on our sport court and field. Join our certified performance trainer for a real workout.

The point of tee-ball is to help the youngest players learn hand-eye coordination, especially with batting. As the name implies, Little League tee-ball makes use of a tee instead of using a pitcher. The main focus will be on throwing, catching, batting and base running. Tee-ball is designed for campers to have fun while learning the game of baseball. This camp will be held in our gym.
