The Builders Introduction PART 1 - Builders - By Year/By Yacht 1851-2024 This Sec�on of Compendium organizes the known builder(s) for each yacht. The Builders Part 1 is a chart of the Builders' yachts, grouped by America's Cup Defense year, providing Builder's Name, the loca�on of that Builder's shipyard, the name of the Yacht, and its year of launch, enabling a researcher to easily see the ac�ve builders of the era, and from regata to regata.

PART 2 - Builders - Alphabetical by BUILDER 1851-2024 This Sec�on of Compendium organizes the known builder(s) for each yacht. The Builders Part 2 sec�on lists the individuals/shipyards by last name, proper first name, middle name or ini�al (if known), the loca�on of their shipyard, the America's Cup Defense for which the yacht was enrolled, the yacht(s) they constructed and the year(s) of their build, enabling a researcher to easily see the contribu�on to the history of America's Cup yach�ng.

Since the beginning of the America's Cup saga in 1851, there have been 36 Cup compe��ons, with some 353 yachts either compe�ng or intending to compete.* To construct these sailing yachts, over 137 separate Boatyards contributed their efforts.

But there are stand-out shipyards and builders that have built America's Cup WINNERS: Herreshoff Manufacturing Co. (8 wins: 1893, 1895, 1899, 1901, 1903, 1920, 1930 and 1934) Minneford Yacht Yard (6 wins: 1964, 1967, 1970, 1974 and 1980) T. P. Cookson Boat Builders (3 wins: 2000, 2003 and 2013) George F. Lawley and Son (2 wins: 1895 and 1886) Eric Goetz Custom Sailboats (2 wins: 1992 and 1995) In recent years, syndicates have o�en taken yacht building into their own houses - employing talented individuals from the carbon-fiber industries and such special�es as electronics, mechatronics, instrumenta�on and hydraulics. Names of many of these individuals can be found in America's Cup Compendium Book 11 - The Crews *including yachts that entered regattas but did not start, or were unable to complete their yacht building project, etc. "

Karolina Stefanski, Ph.D. Dr. Stefanski is a leading art historian. Dr. Stefanski is the Yachting and Silver Ambassador for Robbe & Berking, one of the world’s leading silversmiths. She holds a master’s from the Institut national d’histoire de l’art (INHA, Paris-Sorbonne) and a Ph.D. from the Technical University of Berlin. She is fluent in German, English, French and Polish.
