Vladimir Putin marks Russiaʼs Navy Day, reveals plans for 26 new ships The Russian Navy will receive 26 new warships and other vessels this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin told an audience in St. Petersburg on Sunday to mark Russian Navy Day. "In total in 2018 the navy should get 26 new warships, motor boats and vessels including four battleships with Kalibr cruise missiles," he revealed. The Kalibr cruise missiles, which have been used during Moscowʼs military intervention in the Syrian conflict, fly at extremely low altitude and bypass terrain relief. The trajectory helps break through adversary air defense. Top German court clears way for free Wi-Fi Visitors to Germany are often struck by the lack of free Wi-Fi — now the country has cleared one of the last hurdles. The supreme court has upheld a rule shielding companies offering hot spots from copyright prosecution. Germanyʼs highest criminal court on Thursday upheld a law protecting companies and individuals whoprovide free Wi-Fi hot spots from prosecutionif an unknown user downloads copyrighted content. Although the regulation has beenin place since 2017, many businesses have been wary to open free Wi-Fi hot spots for

fear that even if they wouldnʼt get in trouble under German law, they might still be prosecuted for copyright infringement under European law.The case at hand actually revolved around a somewhat older incident — a man who was charged for illegally uploading a copyrighted game in 2013 was challenging the fine he was asked to pay. The IT worker had made several servers running the encrypted communication software Tor available, and one user had downloaded the game Dead Island, published by the German video game firm Deep Silver, a subsidiary of Koch Media.

Of space and time: a new opera in Bayreuth The tale can be read out loud in four minutes. In the version with music, choreography, video production and singing, it takes one hundred minutes. A flurry of gentle, rapid notes envelop listeners seated in an old movie theater as musicians perform to the audienceʼs left and right. A dancer shares the stage space with video projections that seem like holograms. The latter sometimes merge with the

corporeal figure and sometimes drift apart or multiply. Two windows at stage rear afford a view of the countryside, which is sometimes stationary, and sometimes whizzing by. Projected images seem to show people looking in on the stage action from behind. Everything is drawn out to a snailʼs pace. A sense of timelessness ensues, the audience drawn into the hypnotic spell.

Cambodiaʼs opposition condemns election ʼclimate of fearʼ as strongman Hun Sen declares victory Cambodiaʼs Prime Minister Hun Senʼs ruling party claimed a landslide victory in Sundayʼs election that was widely dismissed by the main opposition and western observers as being neither free nor fair. After polls closed, CPP spokesman Sok Eysan told Agence France-Presse they expected to win "over 100 seats" in the 125-seat parliament, citing preliminary figures from the National Election Committee. "Compatriots have chosen the democratic path and used your rights," the 65-year-old Hu Sen said on Facebook on Sunday, despite the CPP being the sole possible winner, after the only credible political opposition —the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) — was banned from taking part. Ahead of the election, the government proceeded to crack down on dissent, pressured civic organizations and the independent media.
