German police arrest pair after shots fired near US airbase Two men in a van caused a major disturbance on Sunday night in the western German city of Wiesbaden. Officials were alerted after a resident of the cityʼs Delkenheim district reported that several shots had been fired from a white van in the direction of an airfield belonging to the US Armyʼs Lucius D. Clay military base. The report prompted a large-scale police operation involving vehicles from Wiesbaden and the surrounding area. A police helicopter was also drafted in. The van was tracked down to a local business park, where two men were arrested at a unit they had rented. According to police, the 20-year-old passenger, whose 26-year-old work colleague had been driving, had fired the shots from a blank alarm pistol which was found in the vehicle itself.

El Salvador: Nayib Bukele wins presidential election Former mayor Nayib Bukele on Sunday won El Salvadorʼs presidential election, the Supreme Electoral Court said. The Supreme Electoral Court said Bukele had nearly 54 percent of the votes, with nearly 90 percent of ballots counted.His biggest challenger, Carlos Callejas of the Nationalist Republican Alliance, was far behind in second with less than 32 percent, while even farther back were former Foreign Minister Hugo Martinez of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front and a minor party candidate. "Today we won the first round and we made history," Bukele, said in a victory speech to cheering supporters. "We’ve turned the page on power." Israel builds new barrier along Gaza Strip border Israel on Sunday said it had started to build a new barrier along its border with the Gaza Strip, according to the Defense Ministry. The ministry said in a statement that the above-ground barrier — 65 kilometers long and six meters high — would work in conjunction with an underground wall also under construction, to neutralize the possibility of cross-border tunnels built by Hamas militants.

Rapper 21 Savage was detained by US immigration authorities on Sunday for overstaying his visa, and is now facing deportation to the United Kingdom. The news rocked the hip hop world and shocked his legions of fans, as the rapper has always said he is a local act from Atlanta, Georgia. 21 Savage, whose birth name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, is an "unlawfully present United Kingdom national," according to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). ICE added that Abraham-Joseph had been illegally in the country since his visa ran out in 2005. The 26-year-old rapper has been well known in Atlanta since 2015, and quickly made his way onto the national scene. His second studio album, "I Am > I Was" debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in December. He is known for his conversational delivery and candid sincerity about issues like police brutality and systemic racism. He is nominated for two Grammy awards for his work on fellow rapper Post Maloneʼs "Rockstar," including Record of the Year. The awards will be presented on February 10.

Outcry in Uganda over compulsory HIV test 19-year-old Methia Nalukwago, a student at Makerere University in the capital Kampala, is excited by the proposal to have all students undergo compulsory HIV/AIDS testing. Some students, she says, have been living in denial. "Our friends, we study with them but you look at someone and you are like, ʼare you sure you are not sick or something like that?ʼ Of course you never come out to tell them but you feel it deep down inside you, this person must be sick because of the symptoms that show," Nalukwago told DW. "Compulsory testing for HIV will help us know our HIV status and where we stand." Studies conducted by the Ugandan AIDS Commission show lack of sufficient information among the youth is contributing to an increase of HIV. Jane Were, the head teacher of Forest Hill College in Mukono district located 21 kilometers (13 miles) east of Kampala, said they are grappling with HIV in schools.
