Off The Wall_ Spring Classic You know what?

I love this contest. Every year I look forward the Varazze Off The Wall Spring Classic, and I can’t wait for next year’s one.

Basically I don’t know why, but there’s a mix of kickstart of summer, friends involved, focaccia, girls in bikini, first contest of the season, a lot of “Hey what’s up, do you survived the winter”, and bro style whatever that make sense to me .

And yes, there’s skateboarding too. I’ve almost forgot about it !! Sorry but I’m one of the “wrong-

boarders” pictured somewhere in this issue, and I wasn’t there for skateboarding, just to show up my brand new 4 wheel longboard or my pinky plastic banana board, coordinated with my hipster outfit

fresh out of some Supreme shop (expensive but, you have to give blood to skateboarding to be hip).

Ok, I’m just jokin’, but I’m always happy when I come back from the Vans Spring Classic event…

happy and with a awful headache obviously, and I don’t know why, but usually I wanna skate like a maniac the week after… and I want to skate mini ramps. And I hate mini ramps!!!

The ramp this year was perfect and funny, and everybody could find something different to skate.

There was the lip trick dancers, the airs animals, and the go for it dudes and everybody was stoked and skated hard.

Side notes: people skated too good this year; you couldn’t say who was from Europe and who from the US, the level was the same, and it was so high and exciting.

Hey you know who’s from Italy, ‘cause we skate a little worse, but you could have seen Ivan Federico,

who has grown fast in the last year and he doesn’t have the “little kid” factor when he skate… now he shred like an animal, and he goes big, grab in the right way and skate so consistently it hurts.

You know who has the little kid factor? The youngest contest rider ever (at least for this event), Ale Mazzara, 8 years old, who was in the same run with Guillame Moquin. Kinda scary, right?

The lil’ kid skated with this board as big as him, the announcer called him and he dropped in the vert section straight to bs air, rock to fakie into a perfectly landed caballerial above the coping. 8 Years old. I feel old and useless and hopeless by the way. Happy for you little bastard!

Daan Van Der Linden is another one without the little kids factor. He just skated the whole time

with so much consistency and precision I wanna kill myself. The nosegrind down the spine leave me speechless… just give him the whole prize and go party. That trick was nuts!!!

Aurelien Giraud is the pros worst nightmare; he’s young and he’s so committed that hurts. He skate like a 30 years old pool destroyer. Everybody can throw himself in the air here and there, but you

must have “the touch” to maintain speed, style and grace while doin’ bs 360 back to back on the spine, and then land a perfect 360 flip to fakie.

And than you have the French and the English crews. You know them. They’re always around, and

kill every miniramp or bowl contest in Europe. Guillame Moquin can do whatever he wants, he’s so

reckless and powerful, while Julien Benoliel skated so fuckin’ good, as usual… one of the best bs ollies

in business. Josh Young, Ross McGouran, Rob Smith, Kris Vile and the rest of the UK squad pleased the crowd with their stiles and tricks.

Ok… let’s talk about the chicks, that’s the main reason everybody loves The Spring Classic! There were tons!!!!! (come and check next year).

And obviously it was raining on Sunday. You can’t be happy forever.. but fuck that, I seriously

couldn’t wait to watch the finals this year. Everybody was a little pissed and sad… people wanted to

skate and the stands were full of people waiting for the show… and it was raining. God’s has a strange sense of humor, sometimes!

And you know what was the funniest thing? I was eating some focaccia in Varazze’s central square, trying to break out from the event and I heard some old local people complaining about too many

people around, about the music, about the noises… 10.000 people around a sea town that lives out of tourism and you complain?

I don’t know. But the Spring Classic fuckin’ rocks and now sorry, I’m turning this computer off and I’m goin’ to skateboard, ‘cause I’ve seen the pics from the event and now I’m pumped again! See ya next year in Varazze. Don’t forget the suncream. (Guido Bendotti)

Off The Wall_ Spring Classic BEST TRICK CONTEST_STREET

The street contest takes only one hour to be done. How many tricks you can have in one hour?

If you’re Bruno Aballay you can land 40 tricks with grace and style , and we love Bruno to death, just ‘cause he’s the best dude out there (on and off a skateboard).

Kris Vile has a solid fun club in Varazze, and he doesn’t feel the pain and he tries and lands bs 270 lipslides after killing himself tons of times. You must love skateboarding to get so much pain for a trick.

Jacopo Picozza, who has his tramlines tricks and the best outfit in the contest (and the best smile with the girls late at night).

Killian Zehender have pop and precision, and his fs feeble grind to fs out impressed me a lot. I wanna learn that trick. Ok, maybe next life.

The kids that just killed the miniramp a few minutes before, Daan and Aurelien, that simply throw themselves down the stairs with perfect

kickflips, hardflips, and grinds. Please, don’t skate so good at your age.

And Dannie Carlsen… who doesn’t love that guy? He has style, no doubt.

A filmer spent the whole time alone in the middle of the action cutting

everyone’s line (he will be famous after this event, probably) and a strange dude, in beach clothes (sleeveless, with your sister’s short pants) who tried the hardest tricks for one hour without landing a single trick… nothing close…

Sometimes we’re our worst enemies… sometimes we just don’t know when we don’t have to skate.

One hour.. 200 tricks. Man. I love skateboarding
