SELLING POINTS

WRITTEN BY KJERSTI ANNESDATTER SKOMSVOLD, ILLUSTRATED BY MARI KANSTAD JOHNSEN

From the Norwegian creators of the award-winning Bedtime for Bo, this story illuminates the possibilities that can unfurl when we spread our wings, dive into new waters, and trust in our own capabilities

AWARD–WINNING CREATOR: Author of Bedtime for Bo, a New York Times Best Illustrated book, this equally beautiful and imaginative book is sure to win the heart of new readers and Bo lovers everywhere! A COMMON & RELATABLE CHILDHOOD EXPERIENCE: This story handles common things like going on vacation, learning to swim, and being scared of new things in a charming, amusing, imaginative, and truly encouraging way. A BEAUTIFULLY & DURABLY MADE BOOK FOR GIFTING & SHARING: From the bright yet soft colors of the glorious art to the heft of the ecologically milled paper and the finishing touches, this gorgeous book is a keeper.

Ella, a small penguin on summer vacation, only has her eyes set on the wonders of the sky––how she wishes she could fly! The ocean, on the other hand, an endless abyss of the unknown, scares her. When her grandmother endeavors to teach her how to swim, Ella is reluctant at first, but eventually she begins to see the ocean––and especially herself––in a new light through her pink–colored goggles. As she adventures through the surprisingly colorful world of sea urchins, octopi, and mermaids, Ella realizes that swimming is not so different from flying after all, and that she is much braver than she gave herself credit for. Through Mari Kanstad Johnsen’s vibrant and animated depictions of the natural world, readers are invited along on Ella’s journey as she uncovers the many treasures of the sky and the sea, and as her universe and confidence in herself expand. Sometimes, grandmothers really do know best: doing the things that scare us are often the most rewarding, and taking a leap of faith can often allow for the most unexpected fun. Kjersti Annesdatter Skomsvold is an internationally acclaimed and award–winning author. Her debut adult novel, The Faster I Walk, the Smaller I Am, was shortlisted for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award and published in 29 languages. The Song of the Dead Sea Scrolls STORY BY LESLÉA NEWMAN, ILLUSTRATIONS BY VESPER STAMPER

For more than 2,000 years, the Dead Sea Scrolls were naturally preserved in a jar in a cave in the arid climate of the Judean Desert. The discovery of these parchments by a young Bedouin shepherd is beautifully and moving shared in these gorgeously collaged pages by the award-winning author Lesléa Newman and the equally acclaimed illustrator Vesper Stamper

SELLING POINTS ESTEEMED AUTHOR & ILLUSTRATOR: Author Lesléa Newman is a well–known and beloved author who has a following in the school and library world, much esteem in the review world, and is beloved by readers far and wide. The book’s illustrator, Vesper Stamper, is an award–winning author and artist who is well know for the YA books she as authored, as well as for the many picture books she has illustrated. STRIKING ARTWORK: Consisting of cut–paper art, the collaged illustrations are gorgeous and the production values are high, making the book standout as both a children’s book and an art book. A STORY BOTH TRUE AND MAGICAL: After 2,000 years in a cave, the parchments and papyrus on which the Hebrew Bible was written are discovered largely intact, despite being blackened with time and age.

Based on a true story, this book tells the tale of a young Bedouin shepherd’s discovery of scrolls 2,000 years old. This small yet enormous and astonishing event occurred in 1947, when the shepherd was tending to his flock and a sheep wandered off. Going in search of it, amid the limestone cliffs lining the northwestern rim of the Dead Sea, he came upon a cave. As the story goes, he threw several stones into the cave and was startled to hear the sound of pottery breaking. Upon entering the cave, the shepherd found a group of large clay pots. Some were empty and some held old scrolls blackened with age. The shepherd brought the scrolls to an antiquities dealer, who recognized at once that this was a very special discovery. The shepherd had found the oldest known copies of biblical works written on pieces of parchment and papyrus in ancient Hebrew. These, now known as the Dead Sea Scrolls, have given us an unprecedented window into Judaism, the origins of Christianity, and the Old Testament itself, but what stands out in this lyrical account are the durability of what is fragile and how significance can come down to us in the most unanticipated and surprising ways. Lesléa Newman is the author of 85 books for readers of all ages, including A Letter to Harvey Milk; October Mourning: A Song for Matthew Shepard; and Heather Has Two Mommies. She has received many literary awards, including creative writing fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Massachusetts Artists Foundation, two National Jewish Book Awards, two American Library Association Stonewall Honors, and the James Baldwin Award for Cultural Achievement. Nine of her books have been Lambda Literary Award finalists. Vesper Stamper has been an illustrator for over 20 years and now also writes and illustrates novels of historical fiction. Her debut illustrated YA novel, What the Night Sings, about the post–Holocaust period, was a National Book Award Nominee, a National Jewish Book Award Finalist, a Morris Award Finalist, and a Golden Kite Honor Book and Sydney Taylor Book Award Winner. Vesper has a BFA in Illustration from Parsons and an MFA in Illustration as Visual Essay from SVA. She lives with her husband, filmmaker Ben Stamper, in NC.

ENCHANTED LION

AN IMPORTANT BIT OF HISTORY WORTH LEARNING ABOUT: Though some scrolls were intact, many were in fragments. Despite these conditions, 950 different manuscripts of varying lengths were reconstructed––the original texts of the Hebrew Bible which bear a remarkable resemblance to those which had been passed down. The window this gives us into time and history is exceptional, illuminating, and meaningful.

The journey of the Kreek and the Gleb, though it is through a beautiful natural world bursting with life, isn’t without risk, however; quite the contrary, as when the oblivion of the Time Sands and the despair of the Never Again become part of the Kreek and the Gleb’s journey, too. Told in playful, poetic prose that bristles and blooms with the fragrances and textures of the natural world, The Jamblings of the Kreek gives us touching, relatable characters within an enchanted yet shadow–tinged world, much like our own. Large–hearted, inventive, sweet, and wise, this is a story for the ages! Ohara Hale is an international multidisciplinary artist who works with many different forms and materials. She sings, writes, draws, and performs sounds, words, colors, and movements that are questions and ideas about love, life, nature, and all the unseen, unknown, and dreamed in between. Her animations have appeared alongside celebrated poets and thinkers, her scores have won awards, and her songs have been played on the radio. She has taught workshops, spoken at festivals, and made art that lives in galleries, shops, and homes. Born in Hollywood, she was raised in the Midwest but spent years living in L.A. and Montreal before setting out to explore the world. She has been searching for home ever since and finding it, again and again, in the most unexpected of places. To find out more please visit www.oharahale.com.

A STORY OF THE DECADES OF LIFE WORDS AND PICTURES BY ADRIEN PARLANGE, TRANSLATED FROM FRENCH BY CLAUDIA BEDRICK

A book like no other in its use of die-cuts and frames to capture the moments and memories of a life

SELLING POINTS UNIQUE FORMAT: The exceptional format of the book, the novelty of its mechanics and design, and the beauty of its production make it stand out as a both an exceptional gift and a collectors item. IDEAL FOR MUSEUM & GIFT CHANNEL: This book would be a first choice for museum stores, gift shops, and indie bookstore art and design tables. FOR PICTURE–BOOK ENTHUSIASTS: An exceptional choice for book lovers, as well as for programs that teach about picture books and bookmaking. GLOBAL ACCLAIM: The author already has a strong following in Europe and Asia, and has been recognized for the uniqueness of vision that he brings to storytelling in the picture–book form.

In this book, the author evokes the pivotal moments of a life. These moments—like decisive leaps and rebounds—do not merely represent every passing age; rather, they linger on love, friendship, intense feelings, upheavals, lasting impressions, and the echoes of both joys and failures. The book impressively captures these moments through die–cuts that shift, change, and disappear across the book, thereby serving as windows that open onto memories—memories that endure, change, and disappear––together weaving the story of a life. The author’s unique structural approach to the passage of time and memory, by using the form and materiality of the book to look backward and within, beautifully serves the poetic depths and universal resonance of his themes. Adrien Parlange is the author of several outstanding picture books, all of which explore and extend the limits of the form. His latest picture book, Un abri, was a dPicture Outstanding Picture Book of 2025, a BRAW Amazing Bookshelf selection of 2025, and it received a 2025 Sorcières Award for Best Fiction Book, a Lu et Partagé Award for Best Picture Book, and an Imaginales Award for Best Picture Book He lives in Strasbourg, where he teaches at the School of Decorative Arts.
